(WSDOT April 25, 2011) Media tour the old walk-in bank vault used to store toll cash collected from drivers until 1979. After the tour, crews demolished the 1963 toll administration building just south of State Route 520 in Medina to make room for a wider highway with better interchanges, three lanes in each direction and environmental improvements.

The new pontoon form walls tower over nearby crews, and stand at nearly 27 feet tall. White, plastic ducts used for post-tensioning can be seen behind the rebar.

(WSDOT April 25, 2011) Under heavy drizzle, contractor crews demolished a 1963 toll administration building south of State Route 520 in Medina to make room for a wider highway with better interchanges, three lanes in each direction and environmental improvements. The building was used for WSDOT maintenance storage and equipment from 1979 until 2011.

The bridges keep the bike path open during construction on the I-90 floating bridge. WSDOT hired General Construction Co. to remove and replace four massive steel expansion joints on the I-90 floating bridge. Crews replaced two of the joints in the I-90 express lanes in May 2009 and began work on the I-90 westbound mainline lanes July 6.

This is an extreme close up on one of those variable speed limit signs along I-90. At this range, it looks more like a lite-bright set than a big white sign, doesn't it.

Three form walls have been erected for the test pontoon structures in Satsop. Concrete will be poured on the opposite side of the forms.

Hard to categorize this unique bridge. Sunset Lake is too deep and too soft at the bottom for a conventional bridge, and too wide for a suspension bridge. Although, I didn’t drive across it this time, I have traversed it in the past. The first time I remember going across it, I was probably twelve or thirteen years old. It had lots of tires and barrels and the water covered sections of the bridge as we crossed it. Dad was less nervous than we were.

This is one of the warmest lakes in Metro Vancouver ! There is a nice easy trail around the lake, with minimal elevation gain. This place can get very crowded in the summer because it has two great sandy beaches (White Pine Beach). There is a very sturdy floating bridge across the lane with two wharves for fishing or jumping off. The lake has an area of about 45 ha (111 acres) and a perimeter of 3.2 kms.

WSDOT is taking the first steps toward replacing the SR 520 floating bridge with innovative pontoon construction tests.

On Aug. 24, 2009, WSDOT awarded Advanced Construction Methods and Engineering for Pontoons to Quigg Bros., Inc. for their low bid of $2.8 million. Visit the project Web site for more information: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR520/Pontoons/tests.htm

A glimpse of the replacement floating bridge in Brookfield, VT. This bridge is one in just a handful of floating bridges in the world. The new bridge utilizes composite pontoons to vastly improve resilience over the previous floating bridge. Despite the use of innovative materials, the new bridge will have a timber surface that preserves the historic aesthetic. Learn more at outside.vermont.gov/agency/vtrans/external/Projects/Struc...

Stopped at one of my most favorite spots in Vermont today before heading back home, The Brookfield Floating Bridge in Brookfield, VT. The bridge, buoyed by pontoons, spans Sunset Lake and is the only floating bridge east of The Mississippi River. So happy to see it was rebuilt this year after sustaining severe damage in Hurricane Irene. 👏 ✨#vermont #floatingbridge #brookfield #vtsummer #lake #sunsetlake #fourthofjuly

(WSDOT June 29, 2009) Starting July 6, crews will begin demolishing concrete and steel expansion joints in the westbound I-90 lanes and the I-90 bicycle path. To get around the work zone, crews are building two temporary bridges for bicyclists and pedestrians. The bridges are built on scaffolding, are secured to the bridge and have chainlink fencing. During construction, two massive cracked expansion joints will be removed and replaced and the road will reopen by July 20.

The new pontoon form walls tower over nearby crews, and stand at nearly 27 feet tall. White, plastic ducts used for post-tensioning can be seen behind the rebar.
