I am creating an art float with friends and neighbors for this year’s Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade.
Our float for this parade features the Bamboodu Theater, a mobile puppet stage I created for civic events and art shows. Our first show stars Lady Liberty and Mr. Trump. As music plays, a Mr. Trump’s recent tweets and alternative facts appear on a news ticker. Each time Trump says something wrong, Liberty hits him on his thick, bobbing head.
As we march, we will invite parade watchers to sing along the inspiring poem by Emma Lazarus about the Statue of Liberty (“Give me your tired, your poor …”). Through this interactive art experience, we hope to engage people of all ages to change the world through civic action.
I am building this float with a wonderful team at the Mill Valley Community Action Network (MVCAN), a local political group which I recently joined to resist the conservative takeover of our country.
I’m very grateful to all our friends and neighbors who are helping bring it to life: Danny Altman, Laura Boles, Jean Bolte, Phyllis Florin, David Glad, Peter Graumann, Edward Janne, Suz Lipman, Jean Marie Murphy and Mark Petrakis, to name but a few.
Our Bamboodu Float is coming along beautifully, and I can’t wait to show it off at the parade on Monday, May 29, 2017.

Keeping with the 1950's Rock-n-Roll theme, root beer floats were served after the Saturday night burger dinner.
Filled with vibrant floats, dancing dragons, prancing lions, stilt walkers, wushu masters, performers of different races in their traditional costumes and many, many more, the annual Chingay Parade is the largest street performance and float parade in Asia. It is a uniquely Singaporean Lunar New Year tradition, held during the first weekend of the Lunar New Year, celebrated by Chinese, Malays, Indians and Eurasians alike.
The word Chingay is equivalent to the Mandarin zhuang yi (妆艺), which means "the art of costume and masquerade" in the Hokkien dialect.

The Imperial Order of Odd Fellows float, one of Nelson's older City lodges. The Kootenay Lodge was incorporated on November 24th, 1919. The Odd Fellows are an international fraternity dating back to the 1700s, and are still active today.

I managed to get a quick picture of the Downey Float getting ready to head out for it's 8-hour ride to Pasadena...taking side streets. On a normal day, it's only 25 minutes away. Our City float is built just a few blocks from my home, so I frequently go to the building site the week before New Year's Eve. Not this year, though. The route takes it just 10 houses away from mine at the end of the street. Usually, it's traveling so quickly I can't get a good shot. Just feet from the main street, they were stopped for some last-minute adjustments. I hopped out of the car and grabbed a quick shot of the back end of the float. Thanks, Judy, for coming with me. I should have gotten a picture of you with the float.

And now Float is looking much more like herself. OMG I could not be happier with this wig! First of all, it's wonderful quality! Secondly, it fits her head perfectly! Third, OMG! She looks like Float! :D

St. Lawrence County Housing Council celebrates NeighborWorks Week 2009 with a prize winning float in Canton, NY's annual Dairy Princess Parade. This was the third consecutive first place finish for the Housing Council, whose 2009 float featured a pirate ship and cheese. St. Lawrence County's Commissioner of Community Development Keith Zimmerman lead the way dressed as "Captain Curd", with the Northeast District's own Judith Rose dressed as a NeighborWorks Gouda. In fact the entire float was covered with NeighborWorks is a Gouda signs , which in cheese talk, means "NeighborWorks is Good".
