I was hoping for a sunrise on the lake, but instead, mother nature cloaked everything in fog. I'm not complaining- I love the eerie call of loons across a hazy lake.

That's my mom on the bench. She's a trooper- when I said I needed someone in the frame as a subject, she walked all the way over!

❧ this is her best side

mapping her immersive interior

a state of mind

transmitting a tradition deeply rooted in her connection

to a source whose language is truly a divine beauty

which brings all the colours of her life here in the now;

and a worldview that involves the interpretation of

the natural universe based on traditions -

which favored what was right for the soul in charge,

but not what was convenient or preferable

to those in charge with wings of desire;

nor to those whose effect on us is half realizing

there are no secondary characters which are ignored

little by little... her everyday moments

begin to encompass more characters, more generations...

precious signs of what's to come and above all,

these beautiful bonds that are formed in full circle

whose effect is to be in state of constant awe

as above, so below; as outside, as inside.

she is from the sea, she is from the sun

she is from the pond, as she is from beyond her self

our universal inner smile? ❧

“What is belonging?” we ask. She says, “Where loneliness ends.”

There we have the puppies together with the parents (in the centre, left Blu and right on top of him Luce -the beautiful Lutino yellow one with the red head-, his wife and mother of the two brat puppies shared before in many shots and here to the far left and far right).

It's amazing how colourful they are and the different tones and hues of their plumage.

Although Luce is wild, not as domestic as her partner Blu, she is very sweet and I could luckily photograph her with the entire family. It's been a little complicated to have them all focused and rightly framed as they like to play and they always move a lot but with some patience I could get some acceptable photos.

This is the first time I show the Mom Luce while the Daddy is already showed on top of a pink orchid flower in my stream.

Blu (who is actually green and peach headed), has a story: he is widower of the first wife, so their previous owners gave him Luce...They fell in love and got their first 4 babies in their previous family last year. Since when I've adopted this couple, they felt immediately at ease and rapidly got two more puppies (in the photo) that daily make us all very happy. Next week the siblings will be 2 months old, they are still children, just quit the baby food and are finishing weaning. They've learnt to fly about 2 weeks ago.

As we can't fly, we love to give flying lessons to the puppies :-)

All their lil steps in growing, their endeavours & progresses are magic moments for us all and it is indeed a privilege for me to photograph them in the different aspects of their daily routines and capture some unespected surprises they always reserve to us. Their affection is always showed by them and completely reciprocated.

Ducks in a pond in Florida. The building reflections give the impression of a 3D space due to the ripples from the ducks. The "stars" are highlighted bubbles picking up the early morning light.

her given name was hazel marie, but she has always been known as marie. nevertheless, when i spotted this metal screen on a market street restaurant, i thought i'd use it to commemorate her 99th birthday today. studio photo was taken when she was 20. happy birthday, mom!

Here's another shot from my late August (of 2022) trip to the Svartkällsskogens nature reserve which ended in an involontary swim (long story here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52324967245/).

Finding a spider with slings on the back like this immediately tells us it is a wolf spider - and of course a female.

But getting the exact species is a little trickier. This is one of the species in the Pardosa lugubris group, P. saltans, P. alacris and of course P. lugubris. They, especially the females, are extremely similar so the ID here ends with Pardosa in the lugubris group.

If you zoom in on the spiderlings clinging to their mother's abdomen, you'll see that they have blue legs. This isn't an external colour, but actually the hemolymph, the spiderlings' blood showing through the insanely thin exoskeleton of their legs.

Unlike mammalian blood which uses hemoglobin, containing iron to transport oxygen, spiders have hemocyanin with copper, making it light blue instead.

My mom is in her eighties and she suffers from dementia. She has always been a chique lady, and still she is playfull and loves to pose for the camera. Eyes are always a topic, as she blames her bad eyesight for all the oddities her dementia is causing.

Autumn is Inevitable

Life is far more behind me

Than it is ahead of me.

How is it that when I finally understand

That I am a mere vapour

Or drop of dew that quickly fades,

I am become the one I never imagined.

How is it that like all youth

I longed to be older?

Assuming the callow fallacy

That doing as I pleased

Was freedom.

Childhood seemed a cage

That withheld me from my dreams,

Until I learned maturing

Bore the fetters of responsibility and onus

And the dreams of youth were worn away and

Forgotten like long lost toys.

I have had my spring when everything

Was new and bright until

The luminous sun lessened the

Shadows of summer until the first traces

Of the inevitable autumn.

No longer adorned by youth, I know

Vanity is vanity,

Though allure had its day.

Green eyes still stare back at me

When I gaze at some mirror,

But gravity is a law

That judges all.

Grooves and furrows are begun

Though not yet the corrugation

That imprints the very aged.

The proud strides of youth

Will become a shuffle

The far seeing eyes

Will lose their focus

The lustrous hair,

Thin and gossamer wisps.

I do wonder as I have been warned I would,

Whether I have been

Worthy of the years I have been allotted.

I was warned that the things

I could never undo or unsay

Would be replayed in my mind like shadows.

Who needs grace

More than the old?

Until everything stops,

And everything fades,

And I breathe my last,

And there is eternity.

This is one of my favourite photos of my Mum and I and is how I would like to remember her.

My Mum was always immaculate in her appearance and would spend hours with her hair. I remember going to the hairdressers this day to have my hair styled, but I didn't like it.

Having just celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day, my mind is taken back to what my Mum used to tell me about being evacuated from London to the countryside and I cannot imagine what she went through.

My father had TB and was in hospital during the war so could not go into active service.

Sadly he died at the age of 45 from cancer. My mother missed him terribly after 20 years of marriage (as did I) and never really came to terms with her life without him, although she lived into her 80s..

It’s wonderful that they’re still beautiful 😍

This is a portrait I have taken of the great dancer Anna Halprin who died in 2021 at the age of 100.

I attended one of the last workshops she gave on her famous deck in the redwoods close to San Francisco and it made me very very happy.

She was an Icon and had a strong influence on me.

- Candlelit Light Painting -

Another shot of the last calla that was not yet withered, among those gifted to me, painted with the light of a handheld candle

at the feeble morning twilight, just before dawn, hence the slight bluish hue.

'Accarezzami, Madre' ! 'Caress me, Mother' !

Freely inspired at a beautiful, very educational book: the auto biographic novel by Diego della Palma (2008 issue Sperling & Kupfer).

My work is especially dedicated to all those who suffered of lack of tenderness from their parents. Among all the bad things that can occur in a family relationship, the lack of affection and cuddling is maybe not the most terrible issue but, probably, the most miserable one and can provoke deep unspeakable griefs that may survive the same sufferer...

To all of them,

a pure white flower,

out of the dark,

into the Light.

I entered California today. A short 27 mile ride to Crescent City, under blue skies and warm temps.

Taken in the sixties while dad was serving in the army in Aden . Found this in the loft on an old slide so forgive the quality .
