Female Mallard Duck (Hen) with 9 Ducklings (Nonuplets), Wildwood Lake, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. A group of ducks is called a flock, a paddling, a bunch or a raft. Nine of anything born at one time is called a Nonuplet.
At approximately 6 weeks old, this Great Horned owlet has flown from the nest to a neighboring pine tree. Its sibling was out on a limb near the nest, but seemed not quite ready to fly across.

Seen in north Walnut Creek. This female and her mate seemed to be scouting out locations for their next round of offspring, after some frustration with an overly public location in the spring of 2022.

Watching barn swallows flying over the shores of Lake Eerie is very calming. You can see one in this picture too.

It's curious that those three little blond kittens are the children of the tortie cat.

I wish you all a wonderful and very Happy Caturday.
The hands of my 92-yr old Mother.
These Hands . . .
. . . have raised six children;
. . . have held thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren;
. . . have buried a husband, both parents and ten siblings;
. . . have worked hard – first job: weeding in endless rows at a vegetable farm, 10 hrs per day at $0.18/hr;
. . . have washed (and dried) a lot of dishes – she never had a dish washer (a mechanical one, that is);
. . . have prayed every day;
. . . have lifted me up.
I think this is exactly what Holly was saying. A real illustration of maternal love! Mama cat Holly, embracing Mac.

This photo shows my great-grandmother, Polina, with her children. The girl on the right is my grandmother, Galina (Galia), and the young man on the left is Konstantin (uncle Kostya). The photo was likely taken in the mid to late 1940s.
My great-grandmother Lina was forced to work hard all her life. I was fortunate to know her while she was still alive. She told me that she had to work as an accountant in seven different stores at once just to make ends meet.
She spent the last years of her life in a small room of a two-room apartment where her daughter and son-in-law — my grandparents — lived. As a child, I used to spend summers there. I remember she was always knitting beautiful lace doilies, tablecloths, and little hats — all in white.
She passed away in the late 1980s, and I believe she was 84 at the time.
You don’t see my great-grandfather Leonid in the photo because at that time he was serving a 10-year sentence in the GULAG — as an 'enemy of the people' and 'foreign spy' (back then, anyone could end up with such charges if someone submitted an anonymous denunciation. After that, it was just a matter of procedure).
My great-grandfather died about ten years earlier — he had been severely beaten in the labor camp and lost his health.
My grandmother Galia is still alive and in a pretty good shape — she will soon turn 88. She lives with us now.
Unfortunately, we have lost contact with uncle Kostya, as after the Russian army's invasion began on February 24, 2022, he ended up in occupied territory, and his phone has not responded since...

This is a wonderful photo I took years ago of my mother in law who pass away in 2002. The picture encapsulates her beautiful character of joyful, playful love she had for her family and friends. Her heart was so big that it had enough room to fill even those who needed compassion. Halloween was probably her favorite holiday. She is missed. Film print reshot from iPhone
Ximena has bottle fed Jack since he was 1 week old. His feral mother had 5 kittens behind our house in an old dog house that we have. We tried to make them comfortable while she nursed her kittens but the mother soon left and took 4 of her kittens with her... abandoning this one. So my wife took it upon herself to bottle feed him. In the first few weeks, he appeared to have a handicap in his rear legs but slowly, over time, his legs grew stronger and now he's like any other normal kitten. Maybe the mother sensed this weakness and thought he wouldn't survive. Jack is now a little over 3 months old and mostly eats solid food but still likes a bottle before bed.

My father had been passionate about photography since his school years; he developed and printed photos himself.
At first, he used a 'Kiev-4' rangefinder camera (equipped with a 'Jupiter-8M' 2/50 lens, produced by the 'Arsenal' plant in Kyiv,).
Later, he acquired a 'FED-5' rangefinder camera (with an 'Industar-61 L/D' 2.8/55 lens, manufactured in Kharkiv).
The film, chemicals, and photographic paper in Soviet Ukraine were produced by the 'Svema' company in the city of Shostka, Sumy region. Therefore, most of the photographs in his albums were likely made using 'Svema' products.
The carpet in the background is made in Ukrainian ethnic style. As far as I know, such carpets are now produced only in Zakarpattia (Western mountain region). In the past, however, they were woven all across Ukraine, with the main differences being in the ornaments, which were unique to each region.
In this case, the patterns are from the Polissia region (North of Ukraine), which is where my father's family comes from. Each element is more than just a graphic design — it is a symbol encoded with meaning. These symbols are hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, of years old. Since pre-Christian times. As far as I know, rhombus-shaped symbols were used as protective talismans against evil spirits
