These boots were found in an abandoned homestead in rural Alberta. The homestead was originally erected around 1920, making it over 100 years old. Even though the buildings have clearly sustained the damage which accompanies abandonment, the property is a testament to the quality of the original workmanship.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

A majestic view down the nave of Durham Cathedral, captured on New Year’s Day. Romanesque columns adorned with distinctive chevron carvings rise toward ribbed Gothic vaults, guiding the eye to the luminous rose window above the altar. The interplay of stone, stained glass, and warm candlelight evokes centuries of worship and architectural mastery. Visitors walk the central aisle, echoing the footsteps of pilgrims past. A moment of sacred stillness and renewal framed in medieval geometry.

Very cool Fringed Tulip. One of my favorite signs of spring, and they come in so many colors. The tulip is a member of the Liliaceae (lily) family. Tulips actually came from the Central Asia where they grew wild over a great territory in Asia Minor through Siberia to China. Turkish growers first cultivated and hybridized tulips as early as 1,000 AD., and Historically, Europe considered Tulips as the symbol of the Ottoman Empire. There are now over 3,000 different registered varieties of cultivated Tulips. Every year billions of Tulips are cultivated, a majority of which are grown and exported from Holland.

We opted to take a day trip to Hard Luck Canyon as a way to get out for some fresh air, and to take our dog for some adventuring. We explored a good length of the canyon, led by our dog’s nose, and just as it started to rain, we made it back to the falls. The rain and cloud cover really helped the greens in the moss pop!

A coyote stepped quietly out of the tangle of winter reeds, its coat catching the first warm light of the cold morning. For a moment, everything went still: the snow-laced branches, the frosted grasses, even the air itself seems to hold its breath. Only those amber eyes move, sharp and steady, studying every sound and shadow in its frozen world.
Out here, survival is an art form. Every footfall is calculated, every shift of the wind interpreted. This coyote moved with a kind of quiet confidence, blending almost perfectly with the winter landscape until the sun revealed just enough of its presence to turn caution into curiosity.
This is the part of winter I love most: those rare moments when wildlife chooses to trust the silence long enough to let you witness it. No blinds, no setups… just patience, cold fingers on the camera, and the soft rhythm of snow beneath cautious paws.
