Just wanted to say thanks for such a warm welcome back to Flickr. I've had this account for over 10 years but I've finally decided to start using it more religiously thanks to the internet not really having a dedicated forum for photography, these days. I'm overjoyed by the warm welcome and feedback I've gotten here. I've found my people!
Here's Yosemite on a cool summer night. This is a long exposure to get the light on the mountains and a short exposure to capture the sky, merged together in Lightroom.

As I went for my run, last night, there was a beautiful lightning storm happening over the Everglades. Summer is on her way. Can’t wait.

I’m a week late for my Halloween post. This is my Halloween post because this rock formation in Vermillion Cliffs looks like a witch’s hat. Or the Sorting Hat. From Harry Potter. Which wasn’t written by anyone of note and certainly not by someone who has abhorrent views about minorities. Anyway. Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas. Let’s not skip Thanksgiving either.
It’s been a long week, y’all.

️- across Utah and Arizona, you are in the Navajo Nation. In Navajo, sacred land is referred to as Diné Bikéyah. This land belongs to the people. Hopitutskwa, Pueblos, and Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute) land is also found across these two states and at archeological sites and natural sites. It is an honor to see them. White Pocket is most closely associated with Southern Paiute land. #Allpubliclandsmatter

“That love is all there is,
Is all we know of Love;
It is enough, the freight should be
Proportioned to the groove”.
“Che sia l'amore tutto ciò che esiste
È ciò che noi sappiamo dell'amore;
E può bastare che il suo peso sia
Uguale al solco che lascia nel cuore”. - Emily Dickinson.
Caught this epic showdown on a chilly Dublin street, where a Yamaha Tracer 9 was flexing its horsepower right in front of a Paddywagon Scania Irizar, ready to whisk tourists on a legendary Ireland tour. The Tracer 9, all sleek and snarling, looked like it was saying, “I’ve got the real power here—watch me zoom to Galway faster than you can say ‘leprechaun!’” But the Paddywagon, decked out in shamrock glory, just smirked with its “Paddy Power” vibes, ready to take on the Cliffs of Moher, Killarney, and Dingle in one epic loop. Who needs a bookmaker when you’ve got this much Paddy power on wheels?
I couldn’t help but chuckle imagining the Tracer 9 revving up for a race, only for the Paddywagon to honk back, “Pal, I’m carrying 50 tourists to the Glendalough—I’ve got the horsepower of their excitement!” The Yamaha might have the speed, but the Paddywagon’s got the stories—tales of Irish folklore that’d make even the Tracer’s engine purr with envy. In the background, the “Happy Fling House” sign seemed to cheer them on, as if Dublin itself was placing bets on who’d win this battle of the road titans. Any takers on this Paddy Power showdown?
This shot’s got it all—grit, green, and a whole lot of Irish spirit! The contrast between the Tracer 9’s raw energy and the Paddywagon’s promise of emerald adventures is pure magic. I can almost hear the bus driver cracking jokes about the motorbike’s “need for speed” while the Tracer rider dreams of cutting through the Irish countryside at 90 mph.
Where would you rather be—
chasing the horizon or chasing the craic?
I'm going to do something a little different than what I usually do on Flickr when I come home with gigs upon gigs of photos from a trip. Rather than putting them up in any order that I see fit, I'm actually going to go in order, event by event, day by day, and relay the full experience of the trip, the good, the bad, and hopefully the not too photogenically ugly. Our National Parks and public lands are under seige right now. The current administration wants to whittle them away, sell them off, and profit off of what is YOUR birthright. What better way to advocate for them and the experiences you can have on our public lands than showing you exactly what we experienced? Here goes nothing- here's "Out West '25".
Ten years ago, this summer, I visited Yosemite for the first time. It was one of my first national park trips out west as an adult and it was part of a series of “first visits” that threw a lifelong love of our National Parks Service into overdrive- what was a passive appreciation for nature and history became driving forces in my life and ideas about the world. Shamefully, on that first visit, and because of poor planning, I never made it to Glacier Point. I regretted it. I planned to return in 2020 and of course, that never happened. I came back to Yosemite in 2022 and Glacier Point Road was closed for repairs. But finally, in 2025, ten years after all this wonderful craziness happened, I finally got to Glacier Point and got to bask in a sunrise over Half Dome in all her glory. This was a glorious experience that was worth the agonizing wait. It’s so good to be back in the Sierra.

“Yosemite Valley, to me, is always a sunrise, a glitter of green and golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space. I know of no sculpture, painting or music that exceeds the compelling spiritual command of the soaring shape of granite cliff and dome, of patina of light on rock and forest, and of the thunder and whispering of the falling, flowing waters. At first the colossal aspect may dominate; then we perceive and respond to the delicate and persuasive complex of nature.” - Ansel Adams

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.
“A concise poem about our work as stated elow
A place without being
a thought without thinking
creatively, two dimensions
suspended animation
possibly a perfect imitation
of what was then to see.
A frozen memory in synthetic colour
or black and white instead,
fantasy dreams in magazines
become imbedded inside my head.
Artistic views
surrealistic hues,
a photographer’s instinctive eye:
for he does as he pleases
up to that point he releases,
then develops a visual high.

Taken near Cherai beach, Kerala, India.
On the previous days the light had been harsh and unappealing but the third day delivered stunning conditions with beautiful silver clouds, water bodies swirling through the trees. The low shooting position allowed more emphasis to be placed on this beautiful pathway.
I usually say Everglades National Park is the hardest national park to photograph in. I don’t resent it for that; I respect it. The Everglades is subtle. The Everglades is challenging. High sawgrass prevents you from getting a glimpse of the landscape, save for at specific “windows” or gaps in the brush. The animals can be rare and taciturn.
This weekend, however? Easy.
I can’t believe I got this shot.
The heron didn’t fly off.
The sun and clouds cooperated.
The trees were perfectly lit.
This is EXACTLY what The Everglades is.
This grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never all dried at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset, eternal dawn and gloaming, on seas and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.

Detail of a 200 year old sycamore tree in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
This is one of my favourite trees. This photo is from 2002. However in 2012 it was almost cut down to squeeze and extra home onto the lot. Fortunately, the tree was saved by others who also valued its presence and now it has been protected.

Really, is there anything better than taking in this view in Kings Canyon National Park? It feels like this boulder was meant to be sat upon and has a front row seat to all of that pure California wilderness.
