An interesting starburst created by the sun shining through the maple foliage and accentuated by the dust in the air from the farmer harvesting the neighbouring field.
The #FlickrFriday #GreenAndRed challenge
Well, the sentiment works for me, even though Queen Marie Antoinette's empathy with the poor did little to boost her popularity. An appointment with Madame La Guillotine followed.
Whatever! 'Tis not the season for history lessons, so Merry Christmas fellow photogs. This rich fruit cake is one of a kind, made by my very dear and talented wife for Christmas. Unusually, she had little idea of what she was going to create beforehand. When she started messing with the icing, there was a Christmas Tree in the middle of the cake. When I returned from work, Santa had appeared instead, so the cake was a bit of a surprise in the end. It's all edible except for the fabric tartan band (a nod to dear wife's Scots heritage) and Santa's specs. I simply took the photo as shown, using overcast window lighting, adding a colourful background and boosting the red and green colour channels. Well, FF did ask!
Finally, respect and appreciation to the FF team for working at Christmas. I've done so myself many times.
The #FlickrFriday #Spice challenge
I have (ahem) limited culinary talent. Thankfully for this challenge, I'd chosen to marry a chef so the kitchen was a rich source of photogenic props.
Here are saffron (one of the world's most expensive spices by weight - nothing but the best for Flickr!), paprika and curry leaves. The little cupboard is something chef acquired sometime, and atop is a pestle and mortar, used to grind spices together for à la carte creations.
The items are window lit on an overcast day. A narrow aperture was selected to enhance depth of focus and colour popping processing was applied in Photoshop to enhance foreground colours and reduce those in the background, which is the chopping board chef uses daily to create her masterpieces.
