Ok, Algarve is not exactly paradise, but off season, before sunrise, it has its moments. Despite the brightness, this is actually a night photo. The strange light is a result of full moon before sunrise, I pushed the ISO high, and used a flashlight to illuminate the shadows cast by moonlight. The light on the arch during daytime is awful in winter, always a silhouette, night is the only option.
I'd like to thank William McIntosh for the inspiration behind this shot. If you don't follow McIntosh on Flickr or IG, you are missing out on one of the best photographers in the world. He has been a huge inspiration to me over the past few years.
A few years back I came across a shot William had taken at this spot, and his caption and blog describing it were legendary.
Today I finally got the conditions I had been looking for, and it was really cool to see this spot light up. It was so good, it was in fact better than the keyhole just 50 yards down the beach.

For macro Monday’s theme “wavy lines”. I didn’t bring a ruler, so I took a photo of me holding the item and placed it in the first comment box. Okay, I’m in Punta Cana! We arrived yesterday so yeah, I’ll take photos to share later but probably won’t be on Flickr much this week. Oh, and if you zoom in, you’ll see a glimpse of me and our hotel room. I hope all have a fabulous week!
