A London Fire Brigade fire boat based at the Lambeth River Fire Station, seen participating in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in 2012.

At the time, London Fire Brigade maintained one operational fire boat to respond to incidents and to support the operational crews from its land-based stations. The brigade had a second boat (Firedart) which was used for training and as a reserve when the duty boat needed servicing.

Both were built by Almarintec of Northumberland in 1998. They were driven by two Hamilton water jets. Each unit provides 500 litres per second of thrust being powered by 2 x Volvo TAMD 63 engines producing 370 hp at 2800 rev/min.

The fireboat’s rescue capabilities included three inflatable mud mats, a ‘Jason’s cradle’ for picking up casualties from the river and a bow ramp which can be lowered for beaching and landing on the foreshore. The fire-fighting facilities included a monitor which could deliver water from the Thames at 1850 litres per minute at 10 bars. In addition, the boats had two delivery outlets which could supply water via a hose ashore arrangement for land crews. A separate Hughes noble ejector pump was available for “pumping out” vessels taking on water. The large stable deck area was an ideal working platform for casualty care, and on occasions casualties were even been lowered onto it by helicopter.

Both boats were retired in 2022, being replaced by ‘Tanner’ and ‘Errington,’ two new Welsh-built boats that are faster, can pump more water and are bigger than Firedart and Fire Flash. The names commemorate Harry Errington, the winner of a George Cross, and Gillian Tanner, who was the only female firefighter awarded a George Medal, both during WWII. The new boats' numbers, H23A and H23B, are in memory of two London firefighters, Adam Meere and Billy Faust, who died attending a fire in Bethnal Green in 2004.

This is more of a modification as opposed to a MOC. I took the original Lego official set "75901 Flash Speeder" and modified the rear to remove the awful stud shooters and rework the cannon. The Lego original was a solid and well-designed set however. I wish I would have picked up a few more of them while they were plentiful.

Heavy rain and Flash Flood Warning.

An ex SP AC4400CW with it's flashing ditch lights activated leads it's train through Stockton.

The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT (350D) uses this switch to tell it that an external flash unit is mounted. If the switch is depressed, the camera will not pop up the onboard flash and will not fire the onboard flash even if it is popped up.

Today was a very busy day Jackie walked Ruby and I spent all day removing the old steps up to our summerhouse and replacing them I had some decking left over from another job and all the rest was made with the pallet wood I had got for free earlier this year so after a long 8 hour day just a couple of flower images taken late with the on camera flash.

The river in front of our place has been rising constantly for the last few days.

Back to back storms keep coming with no slow down in sight at this time.

This morning at 4AM the river had come up into the field [jungle] 0n the East side of the house.Water is at the retaining wall in the front and rising steadily.

Many houses around us are now flooded with many more expected to go under today.

At 7am I took the bike out to see what I could see but due to the heavy rain and flooded roads I didn't get but a couple blocks away before turning back.

.

This is one of the reasons I took food to the temple dogs yesterday. Figured today there would be no way to make it !

.

If and or when the river breaches our threshold we're screwed but there is a backup escape plan in the works.

Not to worry, Mr WeeNee, The Worm, Number One Wife and I will do just fine. And at this very moment all is well inside our humble home..;-)

.

The high tide is coming in and the dam up river is past 100% full so lots of water has to be released. That is where the big problem is at the moment.Plus the ground is saturated and it's pouring cats and dogs kind of rain.

.

FYI: This photo was taken sometime ago out at the jungle temple and is only being used to reflect the current situation.

.

Right now Mr WeeNee is laying on my left side slowly licking the toes on my left foot.

The Worm is casually laying on my right side slowly licking the toes on my right foot.

.

Number one wife is busy making up something for us to eat for breakfast.

The sound of the rain beating on the roof is slightly deafening but at the same

time is is music to my ears. Why you ask ? Because I'm inside where it is dry ....;-)

.

.

Thanks for stopping by you guys and I expect by tomorrow we'll still be right here.

Detail of my DIY flash spot grids made from black Coroplast boards and cut-up plastic folders. I made four of them from half an inch to 3 inches deep. They can be stacked together to make them longer and produce smaller spots.

14A rockets down the grade towards Gembrook, with the home signal almost in sight. My first real attempt at photographing a moving train using off-camera flash, with a Canon 430EX III-RT flash set in manual mode, triggered by a pair of Yongnuo YN622-C transceivers.

14A was working an evening wood collection train for the PBR's Young Volunteers Representative Team.

Strobist Info:

1 bare Canon 580EX flash, 1/2 power, handheld by rider, aimed down at longboard opposite to sun, triggered by elinchrom radio trigger.

To freeze the longboard, I skated alongside at same speed, held camera just above street level, 1/30 sec (for the background blur), f/10, ISO 100

Editing:

There was some post production to add a bit of grit and to get rid of slight motion blur in the rider and board

PS:

My brother made this longboard himself ;)
