Bought a FitBit and I LOVE it!!! Got it yesterday and I am keeping track of all the waking I am doing…as of 2PM PST today I have walked over 9 miles!!!!

Jon and I bought these Fitbits just after Christmas. They're pedometers which sync with your phone and computer, measuring number of steps, distance travelled and number of staircases climbed, as well as estimating calories burned throughout the day. You can also log calories consumed and additional activities undertaken. You then set yourself targets (10000 steps a day is the default) and link with other people's devices to see how they are doing and have competitions to take more steps.
I confess I thought they were going to be yet another fitness gimmick but actually this has really changed our lifestyles. Before we go anywhere we now think whether we could walk instead. We compete to do more steps and staircases ("No! Let me run upstairs to fetch that thing you need!"). We're really enjoying the walking and almost as an aside, we're losing weight.
Next question: can we keep it up for the next few years?
My Fitbit watch. I had put it on charge last night, and had forgotten to put it back on this morning, hence the pathetic count.

The Fitbit has a little design flaw with it's case. Being small and flexible means the latches that hold the outer shell to the inside eventually fatigue.
This however is fixable with some glue.
Oh well, while it's open, might as well snap a photo. That battery in the middle is no larger than your thumb nail. Now compare that to the circuit board at the bottom.
It's still working. Mostly. *laughs* It's falling apart, all the plastic around the edge has crumbled or broken, so it has to be held together with duct tape. And the spring isn't enough to get it to close enough on the charging stand anymore. So I rubberband it into place. It's been with me only 16 months, but it's the old plastic Ultra. I am going to keep using it until it stops working, but I may well get a One after this. I like it well enough and have done more than 3.5 million steps with it.
