My friend Jane reveals her ability to communicate with this school of sardines at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California.
Clearly, I have forgotten the name of the fish. Given its black stripes on a white body, I thought best to call it the "zebra fish. My apologies to the marine world upfront.
Clearly shooting pictures of fishes in an aquarium is a tough ask. Firstly, you have to deal with a very thick layer of glass which in most cases is quite dirty owing to people's palm imprints. Second, fishes rarely stay in one place long enough to get a clean shot. Third, their direction of movement is quite unpredictable as they rarely seem to move in a straight line making it that much for difficult to preempt where they might be the next moment. Fourth, given so many moving objects at the same time, it is quite a challenge to focus on any one and the auto focus (you can safely give up on the manual focus mode) keeps hunting for focal points making it a cat and mouse game!
After a few attempts, I managed to get a clean shot.

ok... I just made that name up. If anyone knows what it really is, please let me know in a comment. This big guy was the alpha fish in an oversized aquarium in a tourist candy factory in the Mekong Delta, so I'm pretty sure he wasn't on the menu. His job was to pose for selfies (along with the resident boa constrictor).
After my New Year's Eve party was canceled 2 hours ago due to COVID, I rescheduled. Luckily I had bought some ingredients for New Year's Day... and now there's a fish platter! 😎👍
I'm not sure what fish they are but I do know they were caught close by at Odawara.
The larger fish was split in half - both were dried. To cook I grilled them and served them with rice, ponzu and grated daikon.
We were given these as a present - I don't usually buy them because they are too fussy to eat. Also they have too many bones so we couldn't share with EM.

Koi or more specifically nishiki-goi (literally "brocaded carp") are colored varieties of the common carp (Cyprinus carpio) that are kept for decorative purposes in outdoor koi ponds or water gardens. Adult fish reach a length of up to 100 cm. Nishiki-goi have a history of over 200 years. Their breeding is believed to have begun during the Edo period (1603–1868), when mutations of carp bred for food were noticed around the cities of Nagaoka, Ojiya and Uonuma. As a result of selection, at least 120 varieties were obtained, differing in color, size, gloss, arrangement of spots and scales.

Just caught, after quite a fight, and seconds before gently releasing the fish back into the water. Frankie is in friendly good mood also when there's no catch :)

while shooting into an aquarium at the san diego zoo, these two fishes swam in such formation that it appeared as if one fish was looking at itself in the mirror
A bit of fun! I saw this fish, all alone in a fish tank, in the entrance hall to Angkor National Museum in Seam Reap, Cambodia. Having visited Angkor Wat, we went to the museum to learn more about the history of temples and religions in Cambodia. I just couldn't resist taking a photograph of such a vibrantly coloured and unusual looking fish. I have no idea what it is but I spent ages trying to freeze the fish's motion to get a passable side view through the glass. I've spent less time getting shots of a single lion or leopard!!

A beautiful African fish eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) stands on a high branch in Grumeti Game Reserve by the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. They are found near water and are frequently seen sitting high on top of a tall tree where they have a good view of the water in their territory. They look a little like the North American bald eagle, but with a grey bill and more white on their chest and ochre coloured feathers on their body.

The Old Low Light is the oldest surviving occupied building on North Shields Fish Quay. A Grade 2 listed building, it stands within the walls of Clifford’s Fort, largely dating back to the early 18th century, although there was a building on the site in the 16th century.
Early October 2024 and a revisit to Worcestershire to photograph Kingfishers. Weather was dull and cloudy.
A different Kingfisher turned up and was more skilled in catching fish.
The Common Kingfisher is a small bird with unmistakable plumage. Its back is bright metallic blue and its breast is a coppery-brown. The beak is long and black, though females have a red patch at the base.

Some things just make me smile.
It took a couple of visits to this spot to get the shot I wanted. The wrong lens, not quite right faces, my incompetence all playing their part. However, returning with the knowledge where you went wrong previously is a great help.
And the cod and chips were blooming lovely too.
