ZAHS advanced band performs at Grandberry Mall
Zama American High School’s advanced band played for the first time in a local foreign national concert venue May 22 at Grandberry Mall.
Kevin Hanson, Zama American School band teacher, said he has been here nine years and they have been unable to find a venue off-base.
“For this performance opportunity, we had to send a video of the band to be asked/accepted to play,” said Hanson.
The symphonic band of 41 students played a variety of music to include some Disney movie themed music, Batman’s theme song and the Mission Impossible movie theme song.
Hanson said the mall manager was watching the crowd and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
“We were invited to come back anytime,” said Hanson.

Inspired by some of my Flickr friends, I've been working on compiling a list of all the birds I have photographed. I started a new Flickr album to help keep me on task. I still have several more new to me birds to share before I am complete. And of course, I hope to add plenty more in the future.
This, I believe, is a black vulture. Usually we see turkey vultures around here. This is the first and only time so far I have seen a black vulture. I was leaving one of my favorite local birding spots and traveling a country road when I came upon this guy/gal feasting on some road kill. I stopped the car in hopes of getting a shot, but it flew off up into the trees. Fortunately, I didn't completely spook it and managed to get some shots out the car window. I was also fortunate to have my camera and zoom lens sitting right beside me since I had just finished searching for birds at the pond.
It appears that this area is in the northernmost range of the black vulture, according to All About Birds from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology ... link follows ...
And happy me, after a succesful trip. A nice lady with a child took my photo. Ferry is just coming in behind me.

not really grouchy, but I'm always frowning
I blame it on years of living in the bright sun, squinting all the time...
Probably my favorite photo from this entire set. I had this idea when I noticed small bird-like footsteps making patterns in the snow.
I can't believe I have lived in the Bay Area my entire life and this was the first time I have ever been on Cal Train.
Have to say, it is great and I will be jumping on that line more often now that I know how wasy (and comfortable) it is.
I have been threatening to take these two skating for a while, and they finally pushed me too far. I made them have fun tonight - of course now they want to go back.
Turns out that I didn't need the pillow strapped to my backside. In fact in the barrel jumping competition, I won eventhough I only cleared 11.
I was really good at the spinning and twirling stuff. It just kinda happens naturally when you start falling.
