I'll be heading soon to check the red necked grebe nest for any brothers or sisters. It amazes me how different the babies look compared to the grown-ups.

I've been trying to get a decent picture of one of the two foxes who are seen out back for years. They are either always running or very far away.

This one must have seen a vole or something right next to my patio. I grabbed my camera with whatever settings were on it and took a couple of shots. This old (I think old) one has had a limp for over a year.

Was actually ON my patio for 10 seconds or so.

Now here's a real waterfall archive shot! Best I can remember, this is the first digital still (took lots of video waterfall footage) waterfall picture I ever took. Almost 7 years to the day. Letchworth SP.

I didn't have a clue about using a slow shutter for such pictures. As it turns out, I'm not sure this would have been better with a slow shutter.

Taken with my little Sony H2 advanced point and shoot.

Taken with shutter speed of 3 seconds while moving in a car to have that blur effect. and the iso was set to 80. you can call this my first long exposure shot!

....... One of my very first pictures taken with the DSLR. After this, photography has become more or less a passion. But also think (when viewing this picture), I haven't improved my images at all!

Whooohoo, my first picture with my Yashica-D. I accidentally multi-Exposed it as I then had no idea how to transport the film. Haha. I like it. Added soms vintage look in Snapseed.

More to come!

Make 2006 a colorful one!

Only one is alcoholic....care to guess? The green shot is Apple Pucker Schnapps, the rest are food coloring and water. =0)

No it's not me (however) but the first picture taken from my dad,

comforting thoughts came to mind when I scanned this one in...

October 26, 2019 - I struck California Gold at Sunset Time! Golden Sunset at El Matador Beach, CA! This was the very first picture that I took when I arrived at El Matador Beach in Malibu, CA. What an amazing and glorious sight! This was a Gold Rush for me, as I was running late to get here. Thank God that I made it out here on time. This is definitely California living!

My camera has a fold out touch screen. It displays what you're about to shoot, and for a few seconds after, what was shot. I know everyone has one, but y'all don't have Scooter, my orange cat. He likes to walk on the handrail while we head down to inspect his waterfront territory. On the way back I paused to take come close ups. Scooter, being a cat, has limited patience. I don't hold it against him since I'm the same. This morning he decided to mark the side of the screen, and when he did, he took a picture. He didn't seem to care, but when I held the screen in front of him, he saw where we were going, but from his POV. I lifted his paw and touched the screen with it and he purred. So now you can see what he saw. You're right, it is boring.

Finally our baby has arrived! 8 days late & we are delighted to announce his dramatic but safe arrival. Theo Walter Hackney weighing 8lb. Arrived by emergency c-section after 2 days of labour at 2:45 pm on the 8th June. He is just perfect I'm in love with our precious baba. 😍😍😍

It was a rainy day in Istanbul in january 2012 and I do my photo tour. The grey sky and the dark clouds make my photos bad and uncolored. But this photo from a ferry boat was my only best photo from the day. Colored, dynamic and lovely. I love it. Record on 7. January 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey

So... I bought a 70D.

I'd been wanting one for a while, but not enough to actually get one until Saturday, when I was planning to do a video shoot with Suzie (pictured) and wanted to be able to shoot two angles at the same time again.

Quick thoughts:

1. The headline feature of on-chip phase detection works really well.

2. The controls and customizations are close enough to my 5D3 that I don't get confused using it. Yay!

3. What the FUCK is wrong with you, Canon, that you don't think "select center autofocus point" is a good thing to be able to reassign the Set button to? Why must you constantly make it so I can redefine the Set button to any of a small set of features which I either don't give a shit about, already have dedicated hardware buttons for, or both?

4. The Wifi is really cool, and works a lot better than an EyeFi card, but still feels very early-design. It's confusing to set up and use.

5. The touchscreen controls could use some work. They haven't quiiiite got the hang of the whole "direct manipulation" paradigm--e.g., you zoom using the same "unpinch" gesture you do on an iPhone, but it works like performing that gesture invokes the zoom. On most multitouch systems, it acts like you're literally stretching the picture with that gesture. The zoom doesn't zoom proportional to how much you stretched out your fingers, and it lags behind the gesture slightly. Ditto with scrolling.

6. On a related note, I'm really disappointed to learn that the 70D doesn't seem to have tap-to-focus on the touchscreen. It has tap-to-focus-and-fire-the-shutter, it has tap-to-change-the-focus-point-and-focus-is-continuous-so-it-focuses-there, and it has tap-to-change-the-focus-point-and-then-you-need-to-focus-there-using-another-method. It's another one of those things that just seems like an obvious omission to me, and it bugs me.

#3 is by far the most annoying to me. The lack of a joystick to pick AF point means you use the directional control around the Set button, so it just seems so incredibly intuitive to hit that button to move to the center point like you would with the joystick control. Here's what you CAN reassign that button to:

* "Image Quality": I set it to RAW the first day I get a camera and never change it again

* "Picture Style": I shoot in RAW; doesn't matter

* "Menu": There's already a goddamn dedicated Menu button on the back of my camera

* "ISO": There's already a goddamn dedicated ISO button on the top of my camera

* "Flash exposure compensation": Potentially useful, but I rarely use it.

So annoying.

But overall, good camera. Part of me wants to take it out to shoot shows to rebut the people who think the *only* reason I can get good pictures at shows is because I'm using a high-end full frame camera.
