In the fall of 2007, a massive flood occurred in the Mexican state of Tabasco. Thousands of families lost their belongings, some their homes. Our organization came here to build new homes for those families living in high risk zones. After months of trudging through cumbersome red tape, our team here has finally begun work on building the first set of houses, together with our beneficiaries.

Circuit breaker at the house -- looks fairly recently updated! The home inspector said the electrical looked pretty good too.

Jarred and Amanda just bought a house. We broke it in with beer.

the house I lived in for the first ten years of my life. no one lived there anymore.

The first home of my parents, 190 Coxwell Ave. I came to take a picture of what it looks like now, as I don't think there are any surviving pictures of it from when they actually lived there.

My parents moved very quickly out of this house to their current address. I don't think any of my siblings were born here.

The last time I was in this neighborhood, I was surrounded by high school buddies, going to see the July 1st fireworks in the beaches. We were very young. Each of our lives was a red ribbon stretching out in a straight line to glory, and we would always be together. We were happy in the homes that were each other's smiles.

Smiles don't always last. The ribbon has been torn and mangled. So I must now sit at the loom and start again with the thread I have left. There is no lesson here, other than: always make new mistakes, and if possible, harm no one.

My first house on this world.
