I pride myself on my yearly tomato crop. I always have enough to feed my family, plus a small army, with many left over for canning. This year, however, something got my plants. I don't know what it is -- the tops of the plants are turning yellow, the leaves are curling and then dying. I don't see any evidence of insect infestation, but have taken all necessary precautions nonetheless. The sad fact is, before my very eyes, my crop is down to zero.

Well, not zero. I did harvest this little guy yesterday. He needs a little more ripening -- which typically I would allow to happen on the vine -- but with my luck this summer I didn't want to take any chances. So I will savor my "yield" this year as I never have before. It is true what they say: you don't know what you got 'til it's gone.
