Standing Firm in the midst of the Storm - This Pelican honestly did not move for at least 10 mins. Just after this shot it bucketed down. Rainy days you sometimes get a break in the clouds and I'm pretty happy with this.
Celebrating the opening of the Bruce Trail... this section is just two blocks from my house. Notice how the trees plant their roots on the firm foundation of rock.
Another undeniable dawn wonder you could skip.Still drowsy from last night's late candlelight burning. Crazily the morning wind at the lakeshore was radiculously gusty and chilly,the moment I was turning around to place camera bag on the rock, the gust of wind angrily blew my tripod down and it fell right on the sand pit,my 14-24 was slightly dented on the hood edge, and the glass touched the sand a bit, no serious damage after a close examination! Still hurts. It happened twice this month so far. What a adventurous and crazy lighting mania! Press L for larger image!
El gobernador firmó el decreto que habilita el rubro, tal como se había anticipado. Cómo se podrán realizar las actividades en el río. Es oficial. Tal como se había anticipado en la semana el gobierno provincial habilita desde este sábado la pesca deportiva y recreativa, la actividad náutica y la navegación. Así quedó establecido en un decreto que lleva la firma del gobernador Omar Perotti muy esperado y reclamado por representantes del sector.
La normativa del gobierno tiene vigencia desde el primer minuto de este sábado para los departamentos Rosario, La Capital, General López, Caseros, Constitución, San Lorenzo, Las Colonias y Castellanos.
Según el decreto queda habilitada “la pesca deportiva y recreativa en la modalidad desde costa y embarcados, ocupando en éste último caso un máximo del 50 % de la capacidad de transporte de personas habilitada para la embarcación por las autoridades competentes, debiendo ser menor en caso que con dicho porcentaje no pueda garantizarse el debido distanciamiento social”.
También se permitirá desde este sábado “la navegación recreativa ocupando un máximo del 50% de la capacidad de transporte de personas habilitada para la embarcación por las autoridades competentes”.
Por otra parte, se habilitan las actividades de los clubes deportivos vinculados a la nautica para la realización de actividades deportivas y las actividades de guarderías nauticas, a los fines del retiro y depósito de las embarcaciones para el desarrollo de las actividades habilitadas.
Las actividades podrán realizar,se de 7 a 19 y en ningún caso podrán significar la actividad grupal de varias embarcaciones o reuniones sociales en las mismas, las que continúan suspendidas incluso al aire libre.
El decreto provincial aclara en su artículo segundo que las personas no deberán trasladarse más de 30 kilómetros de distancia desde su lugar de residencia habitual; debiendo tramitar en su caso, el Certificado Único Habilitante para Circulación.
Charles Gesner van der Voort had started his career in Rotterdam, at Holland-China Trading Company (HCHC). In 1938, he went to Shanghai for the firm. The Japanese interned him, and most other Dutch nationals, from 1943-45. In camp, he met his wife Nancy and they married after the war. After a leave in The Netherlands, they returned to the Orient, where Charles continued to work for HCHC in Hong Kong.
This postcard was found in the company archives, held by Stadsarchief Rotterdam. It shows Pottinger street in Hong Kong and has a serial number, 189.
HCHC had its offices in Alexandra Building.

As I approached this group of White Pelicans most of them left in a rush but one stood firm…at least for a while before he followed the pack! Taken at the mouth of Horsepen Bayou where it meets up with Armand Bayou and everything dumps into Mud Lake!

If there is an upside to the rain and cold we've had this month it's that it turned the snow into concrete. Taking advantage of this added mobility I tried out a new angle at the Autoport. L517 arrived and set out autoracks and a well car this morning before being relieved by the L506 crew. Seen here L506 is just about to depart for Withrow and interchange partners in the cities.
With some SD60s holding down this run for weeks at a time I'm always on the look out for fresh blood. Leader CN 5487 is a recent arrival. A look back revealed that this hasn't been around for 8 years. It was in spotless mint condition back then but I didn't catch it leading before it was gone again.
