Despite the Moon starting to interfere a bit, the fireflies (Atyphella scintillans) are still putting on a good show at Karana Downs west of Brisbane. Here is a stacked image from this evening, 31st August 2025.
While Firefly are mostly associated with operating ATR-72, they have a few 737-800s leased from MAS. 9M-MLH is seen departing Langkawi for Penang
I shot this as a 2 hours star trail over a small creek near Brenham, TX. I was noticing the fireflies, so decided to put together this composite image with the fireflies. About 320 images stacked.

Spring is here, it's a beautiful mild day, and Firefly is on his way to detroy some Joe stuff. Why wouldn't he be happy?
Melbourne, Australia. This image was taken by a gentleman I met in a park in Melbourne. I don't remember his name but between myself and my friend Mike Brown we planned the long exposure to provide the light painting and yet still maintain some clarity on the Balinese mask. I would like to thank both parties for their collaboration in creating this image.
Its pretty magical and mesmerizing to stand and watch an active field of fireflies at night. You can't smell the ferns and trees in a photo...you can't hear the owl up in the distant tree in a photo....you can't feel the light breeze on this summer night in a photo....but it captures the memory of it for me. Hope ya'll enjoy the visual part....try to imagine the rest. Stacked jpeg shots right from the camera, zero edits. About an hour and a half of time lapse here. No foreground lightpainting of the ferns and such... number one because i didn't bring my big flashlight, and two it looks pretty dam cool this way.
The one peace I used to have in the nights in the country.. where sitting out on the railroad tracks.. listening to the whippoorwills and watching the fireflies dance. I miss those nights.. I miss that smell.. I miss the feeling of that magic that something wonderful were going to come my way..
Another Friday afternoon .. Another week down ,., also the last week of winter for us here in the land of Aus.
Home babysitting the dogs today .. they had 'that' visit to the vet yesterday and are confined to quarters with their cones of shame for a couple of days.
Noticed the cloud building when my partner got home and made a run for the lake with literally no time to spare .. I've shot these rocks a few times before but the tide was up enough to make it a lil more interesting.
Pentax K1 w Irix 'firefly' 15/2.4 and ten stop ND filter.
ISO100 f/11 15s 0.0 and -2.0ev
Two frames raw developed in DxO PhotoLab6, stacked and blended in Affinity Photo2, colour graded in Nik6 Color Efex and Nik 6 Viveza, touched up in Topaz AI and finished off back in PhotoLab.
I about pissed my pants when I found a Firefly/Serenity based RPG SIM...omgomgomgomg..Firefly is my crack..
