Firefly is Pyxis' nickname for Ehsan. He always says Ehsan is his lovely little firefly, bringing joy and light everywhere he goes.

I just love the sea and while I may not swim as often as I'd like
I love to be near it . . . there is something just so calming and soothing about it.
I especially love this pic . . . the silky smooth almost satin like ripples of the water and the little tiny golden sparkles of sun that Ray said look like fireflies.
You can hear them calling you. The firefly souls whisking about like specks of dust in the moonlight. They whirl and dance and beg you to join them. Ever deeper into the forest they beguile and sing and whisper that you are welcome, you are here, and you will never be alone again... so long as you stay, stay with them, and play and forget the waking world you've left behind.
The flashes of fireflies on a warm summer night remind many of us of our carefree childhood sense of wonder. Reminding us of the love and carefree we once were. Taken at maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Miller%20Creek/132/164/25

You would not believe your eyes if ten million fireflies lit up the world as I fell asleep, 'cause they fill the open air and leave teardrops everywhere, you'd think me rude but I would just stand and stare at the Fireflies.

You would not believe your eyes
If ten million fireflies
Lit up the world as I fell asleep
'Cause they fill the open air
And leave teardrops everywhere
You'd think me rude but I would just stand and stare
I'd like to make myself believe that planet earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems
'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs
From ten thousand lightning bugs
As they tried to teach me how to dance
A foxtrot above my head
A sock hop beneath my bed
A disco ball is just hanging by a thread (thread, thread)
I'd like to make myself believe that planet earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems (when I fall asleep)
This is an admittedly odd image, but the goal was obvious to me at the time: in a field of wild flowers adjacent to a swamp in a rural area southwest of Ottawa, I found a Firefly in the afternoon laying eggs on a leafy plant, just above the ground. I wanted to catch the process, to the extent possible in the mix of light and shadow, while at the same time capturing enough field marks to make it easy to see what I was experiencing.
Securing decent images of tiny insects (and some butterflies) is super tricky, in my experience. They are, well, tiny; they tend to move erratically and quickly; and they are not typically people-friendly.
The lucky moments are when they have some other purpose you have stumbled upon, which they have to complete before moving on. As with other creatures, reproduction and nutrition are more important than flight once they have commenced.
It was only a few hours later, when I looked at the images, that I realized I really had found a Firefly in the daytime, and doing important Firefly business. I also found some butterflies, but this was the unanticipated gift of the outing.

I've photographed bioluminescence in plankton, fungi and glowworms before, but I had never photographed fireflies until this evening! Another photographer friend found these fireflies on the Gold Coast last night, so I went for a drive this afternoon to try and find them. To create this image I combined 4 x 10 second exposures with a 35mm lens at f/2 and 1600 iso. The species is probably Atyphella scintilans.
