In french, this bug is commonly called "gendarme" because of the red and black uniform of the gendarmes centuries ago.
The English name 'firebug" suits this insect well too!
I had a hard time taking a picture of it as is was constantly moving.

This insect was a big surprise for me. I thought that is other specie but it turned out that is only firebug after moulting. I found this orange oddity on the trunk of linden.
Using a firebug to start a fuel reduction burn in tropical savannah. Most people do not have the luxury of a mown firebreak with a sealed driveway as part of it.
