Cal Fire got busy early this year as an unusually warm April ushered in California fire season.

A number of legislative changes are announced to increase awareness about outdoor recreation and fire safety. For example, fines for campfire violations will increase dramatically, as will fines for those who interfere with efforts to fight wildfires.

The North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum and Educational Center houses the largest collection of professionally restored American LaFrance fire apparatus in the country. The museum opened to the public in 2007 and currently houses 18 fire trucks and priceless, one of a kind firefighting artifacts. Complete with interactive exhibits featuring real smoke, hands on displays, a 40 person theater, children’s play area and fire truck simulator the North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum proves to be a remarkable experience and an unforgettable destination for everyone.

The poster contest is a longstanding annual event used by the SFMO to promote fire safety awareness throughout Tennessee schools. This year’s contest theme corresponded with the National Fire Protection Association’s Fire Prevention Week campaign: “Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years.”

A large crowd turned out at Alpharetta Fire Station No. 1 on March 25th for the unveiling of the new Fire Safety House. Politicians, dignitaries, school children and a large contingent of Rotarians were on hand to witness the ribbon cutting and presentation of the ceremonial check for $59,000 to the City of Alpharetta. The Rotary Club of Alpharetta has been associated with the Alpharetta Fire Safety House ever since we donated the original one in 1993.

 

On hand for the unveiling were Phil Baldwin, David Belle Isle, Kirk and Knox Driskell, Gary George, John and Karen Hipes, Joe Kralovec, Arthur Letchas, Mike Lowry, John Monson, Jim Paine, Lynne Riley, Keith Sanders, and Bill Weeks.
