The Orbital ATK Cygnus cargo craft is released from the International Space Station in this June 14, 2016, photograph taken by European Space Agency astronaut Tim Peake. Engineers at NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio and Orbital ATK in Dulles, Virginia successfully conducted the first remote Spacecraft Fire Experiment, or Saffire I, carried inside an Orbital ATK Cygnus cargo vehicle that departed the International Space Station on Tuesday, June 14.

Discovered a welded and arcing extension cord plug and receptacle on my outdoor lighting - and it had not been highly loaded at any point. I guess moisture and dirt got into the plug assembly and caused the problem. I am fortunate that I was able to find it before it caused a fire. #firesafety
I made this and the previous photo of a typical brick building in San Francisco. This one happens to be in the posh Nob Hill District. Fifty or sixty years ago, brick buildings like this were retrofitted against failure in case of earthquakes. All San Francisco multiple unit, multiple story building have fire escapes; probably a throwback to the 1906 earthquake and fire when the earthquake was devastating but the fire was the destroyer. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50.
A number of legislative changes are announced to increase awareness about outdoor recreation and fire safety. For example, fines for campfire violations will increase dramatically, as will fines for those who interfere with efforts to fight wildfires.

These standpipes will act similarly to a fire hydrant on land. However, the water they will produce will actually be pulled directly from Lake Washington.
