"One can enjoy a wood fire worthily
only when he warms his thoughts by it
as well as his hands and feet."
~ Odell Shepherd
This was from Saturday's sunrise. The location is about 10 minutes north of Grand Marais on the north shore of Lake Superior. With the incoming storm we weren't sure what if any kind of color we'd get but the sun was able to light up the incoming clouds and give us a great show. The ice had also been piling up near the shore to make an interesting foreground. I really focused on composition during this workshop and in this photo I liked the way the ice piled up in a way that leads the eye up to the tombolo (rocky island) in the upper left and then out to the sunrise. The ice covered rock on the right side serves to help anchor the eye as well. This is probably my favorite picture from the workshop.
The Port of Orillia building, was destroyed in an early-morning fire Dec. 17 2014. The 2,300-square-foot port building, erected in 1980, had a customer-service office, men’s and women’s public washrooms and showers, a mechanical room and a storage area.

Not sure if I remember which lens it was, but most likely the old Helios...
P.S. the building was still under construction back then.

Here is a picture that I took tonight of the fire we had at the beach. You can see the excited flames and the intense color of it. This was taken with my iphone 4s.
