Our cozy little stove in Osteno.

Even in summer there are some very very cold days and nights so we often turn on the fire to keep the house warm.

I just adore to stare at the dancing flames.

"Osterräderlauf" Ahlen-Dolberg, 2006 -

Another place, but the same old pre-Christian ritual (well, not exactly the same - this one is smaller, less elaborate, but at least it's free of charge!)

Flames reached around 9-10 feet High. That was one HOT backyard campfire.

As ever the bonfire at the Faringdon Firework display was quite spectacular! There were just a few seconds opportunity to take some quick photo's before my cheeks melted!! ;-)

The embers from our inaugural campfire simmer after everyone has gone in for the night. This is our new home-made fire pit, complete with a pair of simple benches. It's very rustic, but it worked really well!

"One can enjoy a wood fire worthily

This was from Saturday's sunrise. The location is about 10 minutes north of Grand Marais on the north shore of Lake Superior. With the incoming storm we weren't sure what if any kind of color we'd get but the sun was able to light up the incoming clouds and give us a great show. The ice had also been piling up near the shore to make an interesting foreground. I really focused on composition during this workshop and in this photo I liked the way the ice piled up in a way that leads the eye up to the tombolo (rocky island) in the upper left and then out to the sunrise. The ice covered rock on the right side serves to help anchor the eye as well. This is probably my favorite picture from the workshop.

Marines with aircraft rescue and firefighting extinguish a fuel fire during fuel-pit fire training on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma May 31. Once a fuel-pit fire is ignited, it will continue to burn until the Marines use their skills to extinguish it by submerging it in water.

One night around 2am we stumbled upon this at Fuji Rock, perhaps one of the more "surprising" acts at Fuji. This man started off dancing in some kind of apparently fire proof suit under a shower with several jets of fire surrounding him which seemed like your "standard" man-in-fire act. However about half-way through to the surprise of the crowd he got rid of ALL of his protective gear. The greatest part of this was the crowd's reaction.
