Autumn also brings a lot of changes to the birds, and very noticeable is the one on the finches that completely lose their bright yellow plumage to a mix of very dull green-yellowish that makes us to take a second look.

Right now here in PA the rain has started and many trees have lost their leaves, but they still have a unique charm specially at the end of a sunny day. The wind has move from place to place tons of leaves that are forming colorful skirts which now makes it difficult to know from which tree were originally from.

This image had only a white background so I decided to merge a second one with autumn leaves.

Perfect for the autumn mood...

Photography is one of my passions, and nature photography is my favorite.

I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.

I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!

The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

Sicalis flaveola (Saffron finch / Canario criollo)

Mainly a seed eater, the Saffron Finch generally searches for seeds and small arthropods on or near the ground.

The male is bright yellow with an orange crown which distinguishes it from most other yellow finches.

The females are more confusing and are usually just a slightly duller version of the male.

Purple Finches seem to be losing numbers in eastern North America as House Finches have moved in after being brought to New York City in the 1950s. One study of finch behavior found that Purple Finches lost out to House Finches more than 95% of the times the two birds encountered each other.

When I took pictures of this bird, I thought I'd found a lifer - looks like a house finch, but yellow. But after researching, I'm pretty sure that it _is_ a house finch, with a not-uncommon color shift to yellow. Either way, first I've seen (and photographed) one!

Have been off-line but hope to see your more recent photos soon.

This beautiful and so very friendly little finch was photographed while away on holiday during a visit to Tathra. NSW

There has been some disagreement as to whether the Saffron Finch belongs in the family Emberizidae with the sparrows or Thraupidae with the Tanagers.

There are three, separate populations one in northern Colombia and Venezuela; another in Ecuador and Peru and the third in north-east Brazil to central Argentina.

Definitely the prettiest finches in this area. Unfortunately, the House finch is taking over and pushing the numbers down.

Thanks for taking time to fave, comment and look at my work. I really appreciate.

Just soaking up the sun, having some lunch on a slightly warmer day. (20 degrees F instead of 0)

Tiny little one. I hadn't realized it had begun to rain. So much fun!

And I believe this is the female House Finch (Haemorhous mexicanus). I desaturated the vivid green background, but that turned out to be yellow hues. The bird has shades and streaks of brown.

Thanks for looking. If you borrow this, please link back to this page ;)

Looks like this house finch is an orange morph. Typically they're more red, but this guys has a definite orange hue.

It was getting to be late Sunday afternoon. The temperature was approaching 100ºF (38ºC). I thought, should I just take a nap or go to Veteran's Oasis Park where there was a sighting of a group of Lazuli Buntings? Despite my better judgement, I chose to brave the heat and go to the park because I've never seen a Lazuli Bunting before (a very cool bird with an aqua head). It was a total bust, but I did get this house finch (super common) and a baby common gallinule (posted yesterday), so it wasn't a total loss. But a nap in the air-conditioned comfort of our home might have been a better choice 😜

------------------------------ JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS ALONE!

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so they might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH! Because JESUS LOVES YOU! ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

"The House Finch was originally a bird of the western United States and Mexico. In 1940 a small number of finches were turned loose on Long Island, New York, after failed attempts to sell them as cage birds (“Hollywood finches”). They quickly started breeding and spread across almost all of the eastern United States and southern Canada within the next 50 years."

The Small Ground-Finch is one of the most common and highly adaptable, as well as widespread of the Darwin’s Finches of the Galapagos Islands. In towns and villages they are found foraging on dusty margins of streets and act very much as would a House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) in other parts of the world. Yet in higher and moister areas they may be seen perched on a Galapagos Tortoise, waiting for bugs or seeds to be uncovered by the movements of the large reptile. This is the smallest and smallest billed of the ground-finches and thus it eats the smallest seeds available.

20181007-70D-IMG_6019a female house finch

A House Finch that I photographed in Maryland yesterday. I'm loving these warm days but I can't wait for spring to come.

I found my self with some time to spare this morning so, of course, I took a quick walk around my 'patch' - Snyedes Rd./Hoppers Lane. I have never seen a Zebra Finch there before, today I saw four.

Notice only one female in the bunch, lol!
