Most fifth graders aren’t interested in the stock market, money management or balancing checkbooks. However, students in Kathy House’s fifth grade class at Peyton Elementary School are learning life skills that will help them be successful in the future.
The students participate in the Young Bankers Club, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank and the Financial $tability PartnershipTM of the River Cities, every Wednesday at 1 p.m. The sessions are one hour and started on Feb. 22 and will end April 18.
“This is a great opportunity to get out in the community and teach students how to lead successful lives, especially pertaining to financial literacy and education,” said Melonie Wilcox, assistant coordinator. “I really enjoy interacting with the students, and they seem to really enjoy the sessions. I think they are learning a lot of skills that will help them now and in the future.”
Activities include learning about how money is made, how to balance a checkbook and other money-oriented topics.
