Auf der vom „Bauernverband“ organisierten Hauptkundgebung erklärte Finanzminister Lindner, dass die Regierung die Entscheidung für den Abbau der staatlichen Agrardieselsubventionen nicht zurücknehmen werde. Um die milliardenschweren Finanzausgaben für die Ukraine und die Bundeswehr zu rechtfertigen, erklärte er unter dem ohrenbetäubenden Protest der Kundgebungsteilnehmer: „Mit den Krieg in der Ukraine sind Frieden und Freiheit in Europa wieder bedroht“.

Da Vertreter der "Freien Bauern" auf der Hauptveranstaltung nicht sprechen durften, organisierten sie später ihre eigene Kundgebung. Hier kündigten sie an, die von ihnen organisierte Mahnwache vor dem Brandenburger Tor bis zum 18. Januar fortzusetzen. Die "Freien Bauern" verstehen sich als Interessenvertretung der bäuerlichen Familienbetriebe.

As no representatives of the "Free Farmers" were allowed to speak at the main event, they later organised their own rally. At this rally, they announced that they would continue the vigil they had organised in front of the Brandenburg Gate. The "Free Farmers" see themselves as representing the interests of family farms.

At the main rally organised by the farmers' association, Finance Minister Lindner declared that the government would not reverse the reduction in state subsidies for agricultural diesel. In order to justify the government's financial spending on Ukraine and the Bundeswehr, he declared to the loud and angry protest of the rally participants: "With the war in Ukraine, peace and freedom in Europe are once again under threat".
