Don’t let the soft fur and big golden eyes fool you—X’chi Mew’ra is a legend wrapped in fur and armor. Said to have been bio-engineered from sacred Dinkie DNA and alien predator genetics, this tiny terror stalks through enchanted glades, neon wastelands, and forgotten servers alike. With a purr that disarms and claws that disable, X’chi doesn’t just hunt — they perform.

Beneath the scorched husk of the forgotten Cathedra lies this cryptic vault — a sanctum for all prototypes unchosen and futures uncompiled. Dozens of stasis-thrones flank the obsidian aisle, each cradling a failed godform or corrupted martyr of machine-sainthood.

At the far end, the Uncompiled Saint towers in shimmering, unstable glory — a quantum entity trapped mid-conversion, echoing fragments of hundreds of possible selves. The vault resonates with the hum of unresolved code and forgotten hymns, watched eternally by the masked Revision Keepers who cannot speak, only witness.

from the FBI Library Website:

"For reasons of economy, the approving agencies insisted upon poured concrete as the major outside building material. The concrete used for the FBI building contained an aggregate of crushed dolomite limestone, a unique composition. While contrasting with the traditional marble, granite, or limestone Government buildings, it echoed a major architectural style of the 1960s. The concrete was poured into reusable steel forms separated by metal ties. The ties remained in the concrete when the molds were removed. This technique produced an architectural feature of evenly spaced holes throughout the exterior."

"The final FBI building design incorporated many features of the 1964 Pennsylvania Avenue proposal, with modifications primarily governed by security considerations. The building has an open mezzanine and courtyard, but access to the courtyard is limited, and most of the first floor is closed to facilitate security. Recessed panels along the ground floor were spaced to give the illusion of two-story columns, thus producing an arcade-like facade. Also for security reasons, no stores were included on the first floor. The main part of the building, facing E Street, retained the idea of a central core of files."

365 Days: #118, 06/15/07

My last day in this office is finalized. July 3rd. I start in my new office July 16.

I am going to Denver next week and I figured it would be a good time to apartment hunt. But I hate apartment hunting and wanted something easy like when I moved to Portland. I found a place online, did it all over the phone, and rented it sight unseen (except for a few friends up there taking pics of the neighborhood) and it was an awesome apartment. I did not see the inside until the day I moved in.

This morning, I was at work and poking around on Craigslist (do you expect me to be anything but worthless there these next 2 weeks?). I found an apartment that seemed to be in the location I want. I noticed the website of the management company. I click on that. They manage 6 properties. The one on Craigslist was rented (they seem very good about keeping up with content on the site) so I clicked through the rest. Saw one at a different building available July 5th. Perfect. Looked deeper. Floorplan is fucking AWESOME, a walk in closet plus another 2 closets AND there is even a wall partition so it is almost like separate rooms minus door. The rent is like $200 lower than what I was seeing comparable in that neighborhood. Utilities included.

Dave was kind enough to offer to go take photos of the place and surrounding neighborhood. While I did not want him to go out of his way I admit the photos were frickin awesome and really helped to get a feel of the neighborhood. Reminds me a lot of Portland, actually.

I call the apartment mgmt company. I explained my situation; I am relocating from FL, I did NOT mention I was going to be there next weekend, and I need to do everything via phone/fax/email. I offered to put a deposit down. I gave her my debit card number. That was about 1pm.

I got a call at 5pm letting me know the apartment was mine :) and it will be ready probably on July 5th (I will get a call Monday confirming the day, then she will fax me the lease to review and sign etc), so I could get on the fucking road when I leave work if I wanted to on the 3rd, hah. I even know my new address :) How cool is THAT? And if need be they will even let Dave go get the key for me so like, if I roll into town at some horrible hour I would not have to wait for the next morning to go somewhere and get the key.

This means if I budget my time right I COULD have a WHOLE WEEK there to unpack, get oriented, drive to work a few times in the morning to estimate commute, get my car shit in order, stay in bed all day with Dave, stay in bed all day with Dave some more, etc.

Laura Dern in Columbia PicturesÕ LITTLE WOMEN.

Today we walked 7km on the CPR railway right-of-way from Sherman Rd., Duncan, BC to Lake Cowichan Road. The eastern trailhead is located at Sherman & Lane Roads in Duncan, British Columbia. We walked westbound for 1.6km until we arrived at Bing Creek and found the footbridge washed-out.

We didn't even know the old E&N spur-line -- original owned and surveyed by Canadian Pacific Railway [CPR] -- from Duncan to Lake Cowichan, crossed any creeks. We do now. Had we known there was a small creek to forded, we would have included extra footwear to walk through the 50mm-deep water; thus, we decided to turn around and go back to Sherman Road. From there, we drove west on Sherman to Cowichan Lake Road where the right-of-way crosses and there is adequate parking.

From Cowichan Lake Road we walked the 1.9km eastbound back to Bing Creek. Initially, this section of the trail was so muddy (they had snow here as recently as two-weeks' ago) we searched for an alternated route but found none; however, on the return trip, we discovered the trail is paralleled on the southside by Cleave Road. We did not miss walking in the mud for the last 400m back to our car. It was due to this mud that the 7km we walked took us two-hours in total.

Endnotes re: CPR/E&N:

June 8, 1905, James Dunsmuir sold the Esquimalt & Naniamo Railway (E&N) and all its holdings to the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). As a subsidiary company, that was leased by CPR, the E&N Railway retained its identity -- if in name only. The leasing was finalized by 1912. -- Robert D. Turner's: Vancouver Island Railways.

Santa Monica Pier

November 15th, 2012

Santa Monica, CA

Finalized in December of 2012, the City of Santa Monica funded the LEDs project with a $668,000 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) award from the US Department of Energy. For the project, LEDtronics provided:

-LED Light Bulbs, S14 Style for the Looff Hippodrome.

-LED Post Top Lights in a pendant style with mogul-base fixtures for the outdoor, rest area.

-LED Post Top Pendant Lights for the Santa Monica Pier Boardwalk.

-LED A19-Style Bulbs were used in the hard-to-reach, beacon light fixtures around the Pier's perimeter.

"The old, fluorescent lights on the Pier burned out, left gaps in the lighting and were in a difficult area to maintain," states Matt Henigan, City of Santa Monica, Office of Sustainability and the Environment, Energy Efficiency Engineer. "With the new LED lamps in place, maintenance is minimal, and we have already reduced energy consumption by over 30%. And because the LED lighting is directional, it improves safety and enhances the Pier's appearance without causing light pollution for local residents."

The Hotel Ambos Mundos (Spanish pronunciation: [oˈtel ˈambos ˈmundos], Both Worlds Hotel) is a hotel of square form with five floors, built with an eclectic set of characteristics of 20th-century style architecture. It was built in 1924 on a site that previously had been occupied by an old family house on the corner of Calle Obispo and Mercaderes (Bishop and Merchants Streets) in La Habana Vieja (Old Havana), Cuba. It is a frequent tourist destination because it was home to the popular writer Ernest Hemingway for seven years in the 1930s

From colonial times the zone of Old Havana in which the building is now sited was populated by a diverse collection of family houses. At the beginning of the 20th century the Spanish retailer Antolín Blanco Arias bought a family house on the site, from his office colleague Manuel Llerandi y Tomé. The new owner demolished the very old house to construct the hotel, the work being in charge of the architect Luis Wise Hernandez.

In the 1930s this hotel was the property of the Asper family. Hotel Ambos Mundos was a family hotel, that attracted writers, actor and actresses and many Americans.

This hotel since has gained international note from its most famous long-time tenant: in 1932 a room on the upper (5th) floor became the “first home” in Cuba of writer Ernest Hemingway, who enjoyed the views of Old Havana, and the harbor sea in which he fished frequently in his yacht Pilar. Hemingway rented the room for $1.50 per night ($1.75 for double occupancy) until mid-1939, when he transferred his winter residence from Key West (a U.S. island 90 miles from Cuba) to a house in the hills near Havana, Finca Vigia, which he shared with Martha Gellhorn (they were married in 1940). Hemingway began his novel For Whom the Bell Tolls, a novel of the Spanish Civil War which he had witnessed over the previous several years, in the room in the Ambos Mundos, on March 1, 1939.

Today, his hotel room, No. 511, is presented as if the author might have left it, and is a small museum in the middle of the establishment, with tours given regularly in the daytime. The corner of the ground floor hotel lobby also has two walls of framed photographs dedicated to Hemingway,

In 1987, the hotel underwent some small restoration, with more complete work finalized in 1997 to turn it once again into a luxurious hotel reminiscent of its time. Between 2004–2005, further maintenance as carried out, cleaning and painting the Hotel's facades.

After finalizing and sending off the SOTU videos this morning–and eating WAY too many chicken strips at Cane’s–I went with Ahna to the Union to work outside the office for a bit. It was nice, until the fire alarm was pulled. The good thing about that was that a ton of people flooded out onto the Library Mall, which was great for stock. There was a DJ already out there and a bunch of people were doing some synchronized dancing out there. Ahna and I tried Willis next, ending up on the 4th floor, in a space where all sound is frowned upon. We didn’t hang around too long.

This afternoon was the tech tour for SOTU. We checked the videos out on the big projection screens to make sure everything was A-OK. No big deal!

I saw Amanda at the house for a split second–she’d been hanging out there all day–and then Emily and I drove to McCall’s for dinner. It was a really nice deal! She and her roomies made chimichangas and had a vast assortment of wines. We brought a couple too. It was fun to see those people! I don’t see nearly enough of McCall these days, especially with my recent bout of CH truancy.

Finalizing the trompe l'oeil molding will be one of the last steps I'll do once the mural is in place. I may bring more molding onto the columns but wont make that decision until the mural is nearly complete. Working a design on the "fly" is not something I would recommend for anyone because the study is actually where you work out the details and make changes, but being this is for myself....well lets just say I have no fear and leave it at that.....

This is an image of Diane Keaton at the 71st Annual Golden Globes dressed in mens suit that she had fitted to her body and it relates to my research question "Can you tell a person's sexuality by their clothes?" because she is one of the only female actors that openly dresses "manly" and she has been rumored to be a lesbian in the hollywood press and tabloids because of her wardrobe. This preconceives idea of what homosexual people look and dress like again comes from society and more currently social media and even television/movies. Consistently depicting the homosexual males as wearing famine based clothing with loud bright patterns and homosexual females wearing boy clothes and typically not even wearing make-up. And Diane Keaton's use of mens suits in her wardrobe now is almost unheard of in the straight women community, hence her being falsely labeled as being a lesbian because of her clothing choices.

Nestled within the golden heart of the Gilded Leviathan, the Solis Aetherheart blazes like a captured sun. Suspended above marble steps and ensconced in a cathedral of celestial brass, it radiates solar brilliance from a lattice of arcane containment rings and harmonic field stabilizers.

Orbs of translucent aetherglass orbit the core, synchronizing its pulses with the Leviathan’s flight rhythm. Gilded columns reach skyward into a vaulted dome of stained glass and sunsteel, diffusing the core’s rays into waves of prismatic illumination.

Paladins in ceremonial armor stand vigil, silhouetted against the holy fire. Every beam, every hum, is an ode to the Leviathan’s vow: to guard the light, uphold justice, and never fall to shadow.

As we are finalizing the pics for the new landscape website we are coming across some that I've never published before, like this one.  While combing through my old Lightroom Catalogs I found this shot, and after editing I decided it needed to go on the new website.  I shot this 5 years ago with my Nikon D2XS, and I am really happy I found it.  It was a very cold morning with the ground frozen as well as the edges of the pond.  I found this old house the night before and came back in the morning to capture it with the sunrise.  I froze but got some great shots.  Hope you like it!

It's normal now!

But I guess this finalizes one issue: Our boiler, which hasn't been turned on in almost 10 yrs, is officially impossible to safely operate without a chimney.

(The same chimney that almost killed us once by getting clogged up. House filled with carbon monoxide/diesel fumes [heating oil is just diesel fuel]. Carbon monoxide alarms woke me up. I was sleeping downstairs, Carolyn upstairs. So I would have died, but maybe not her. Only reason I heard the carbon monoxide alarm is that the house became so fumey that our CD player lasers were both permanently damaged. The music stopped playing, allowing me to hear the CO2 alarm. I was soon forced to switch to using MP3s. Had I switched to MP3 earlier, I might not be writing this caption.)

That window there? So totally painted shut right now. Oops :/

P.S. You can see where they patched the siding. I don't know where they found extra siding of my color, or how they did that. I guess maybe it overlaps so they trimmed some overlap from somewhere.

BACKSTORY: We bought some more Thompson Creek windows, and we decided to also replace the gutter that had rusted out & fallen off the back of the house a few years ago. Thompson Creek told us it would be better to remove the unused boiler chimney and have the roof patched so there could be one continous gutter. But they would not do this themselves, despite accepting the job. Thus, Clint had to embark on the experience of finding someone to do the job. Full blog post with every possible detail at: clintjcl.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/journal-house-sam-and-s... ... The most interesting detail was that we got the job done for $575, but a company called Sam And Sons, LLC, out of Alexandria, VA, gave us an estimate for $5600 for the same work. Beware of those evil douchebags.
