L - R: unknown, unknown, my great grandmother Felicija's mother, my grandmother Filomena (Felicija) Sauliūnaitė, unknown but probably Felicija's sister. was Felicija married to 'old' Juozas (my grandfather) Žižis/Žižys by the time this photo was taken - she looks younger in the one @ flic.kr/p/8NazqJ ? ..... but with more scrutiny i note it is a formal composition. in the the middle is the most senior member of the group my great great grandmother. note how similar her facial structure is to that of Felicija's. on her right (@ left of photo) are almost certainly 2 out of my 8 great grandparents. i have no record of their names as so often happens when you try to trace the female lineage in a traditional, patriarchal society. & note that the expression of my great grandfather is, with the help of a handlebar moustache, indeed suitably patriarchal. great great grandmother looks inscrutably severe. Felicija & what may be a sister next to her look profoundly sad - but what else would you expect! Felicija's mother, my great grandmother, has a neutral expression. going by facial structures again i reckon great grandmother is the daughter of great great grandmother, & Felicija's 'sister' has the broader face of great grandfather. each member of the family has been required to have their hands occupied: the cap as befits the head (capo); a bunch of flowers for the seniora; how appropriate to place a bible in the hands of the family ancient, custodian of tradition (i draw the attention of my grandchildren to this photo of 1 of their 8 great great great great grandmothers); a distinctly smaller bunch of flowers for Felicija; & a very enigmatic musical instrument in the hands of a sister whose expression suggests she may have specialised in playing dirges ...... i realised today i possess photos of 6 of my 8 great grandparents - not everyone can do as well. for anyone interested in the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle: 2 of them are above on the left; the other 2 paternal great grandparents are @ flic.kr/p/8N9Xz7; 1 maternal great grandmother is here @ flic.kr/p/8N7hzV; 1 maternal great grandfather is @ flic.kr/p/8NpyyV. fit them together and you get 6/8th of my genetic inheritance, & more importantly 6/8th of my good looks. different life/style but
