“I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn't quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet.”
― Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar
Sitting around for a few pictures. It was small which leads me to believe it's a Damselfly. I am aware that I could be wrong with it being a small Dragonfly.
Decided to use my precious Fig & Plum layer cake to make a quick quilt for my daughter to use for her picnic scene for her engagement shoot. I used the free pattern on Moda's site - "Little Apples" by Aneela Hoey.

My family name - Figueiredo - use to mean, in medieval times, a figtree forest :-)
I'm adding this legend about my surname (pardon my english):
In medieval times, Christians and Moors occupied the Iberian Peninsula in a mosaic of small kingdons, fighting each other.
Mauregato, son of D.Afonso the Catholic and a Moor slave decided to takeover his nephew (another) Afonso kingdom and for that he asked help to the Moor Khalifa from Cordova, Abdel Raman, known by it's fierce fights against the Christians.
Relying on Mauregato's ambition, the Khalifa established a cruel tax: the half Christian/half Moor King would be kept on throne but should provide 100 Christian virgins, every year, to Abdel Raman harems at Cordova.
Meanwhile, Mauregato forgot completely Christianity and embraced the Islam. Em 783 DC, after selling his captured nephew as a slave, Mauregato was acclaimed by a terrified people that feared his army... the same people that, in private, considered him as the most despicable and obnoxious character of his times.
And, the legend says, Mauregato's "hunters" ravaged the countryside searching for 50 young noble virgins and 50 young plebeian... virgins. After fetching the first 5 victims the "hunters" arrived at the noble D.Ramiro fortress who recently had lost it's two sons in battle and was left with young DªMécia. Although exalted and proud of his old conquests, D.Ramiro was old and weak. Powerless, he had to let his daughter go...
On the way to Cordova's harems the group made a short stop in the middle of nowhere, around 15 kms from the city of Viseu.
It was a hot July afternoon and the six captives where thrown into an old shack while the moors rested under the shadow of a nearby figtree forest - in those days called a "FIGUEIREDO".
Some girls wept, other cursed the kidnappers and Mauregato. The moors answered with a full report of their future at the harems. Finally, under the heat, the moors fell asleep...
Sometime later, a group of noble horsemen approached the area leaded by the Knight Sir Goesto Ansures, a valiant warrior searching for glory and for some Muslims to behead.
Before he was noticed by the Moors and hearing the crying girls, Sir Goesto approached the shack and was surprised seeing the six young ladies and one of them was his beloved DªMécia, daughter of the noble D.Ramiro... enraged, he cried havoc and slipped the dogs of war!
The surprised and sleepy Moors were resisting the attack and suddenly, in the heat of the fierce battle, Sir Goesto sword broke into the steel of a Muslim helmet. Defenseless, the Knight looked around to find a weapon and grabbed a figtree branch... with it, the Knight slaughtered the surviving Moors and claimed victory and it's beloved Dª Mécia.
The Lady, mounted on Sir Goesto war horse, followed the Knight to her father fortress. D.Ramiro promised her to Sir Goesto but long and bloody battles delayed the wedding until the cruel 100 virgin tax was abolished by the force of the blades.
In memory of this gallant and chivalrous act a village was built around the old shack and was called FIGUEIREDO DAS DONAS (meaning the young ladies figtree forest).
We came upon this Capuchin (Cebus libidinous) monkey after photographing Giant River Otters just around the bend. This little guy is from the same Capuchin monkey family that posed and performed high wire acts for us. However this one increased the level of difficulty by having his left hand clutch a cluster of figs, his right hand stuff his face with figs, and his tail steady his body so he can swing for more figs. The Little Glutton.

Straight out of the drone this image rendered as a circular panorama enabling zooming to any part of the image for incredible detail.
When I tried to down load it to Flickr the image presented as a panorama as seen above as it appears Flickr doesn't support rotating display at this time.
While the image was taken with my long closetted drone it was taken by my son.
I've hopefully moved a step closer to actually using my drone as I've now finally acquired an IPad Pro as a screen and a new remote control holder. The IPad Pro will allow display of images considerably larger than previously possible with my old IPhone X which I found difficult to work with due to the smaller screen size.
This is light painting with flashlights. The cave is a secret spot in the Cayman Islands. Two assistants lit the upper part of the big fig tree from hiding spots above the cave. Another assistant, Denise Bodden, lit me and the area beyond me (I'm the Indiana Jones looking guy), after which I could move about freely to finish painting the rest of the scene. This was on film with the Nikon F5, 15mm, F8 and full moonlight.
this little figtree is going to have a tough life. The seed found its way into this cavity in a cliff- now the little tree is reaching for the sun. With luck there will be enough soil and moisture to grow. The tree is about 50cm tall now (about 1 1/2 ft). Figtrees can grow in the most awkward places and survive- like roofs of churches, eavestroughs etc.
Nature has claimed the head of a Buddha statue near the entrance to the ruins of Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya, which is part of Ayutthaya Historical Park. Ayutthaya was the ancient capital of the southern Kingdom of Siam from 1350 until it was sacked by the Burmese in 1767. Scattered around the temple are some important remains.

A question about the impact on me of seeing the giant Agathis australis (New Zealand Kauris) in Waipoua Forest NZ made me search for some photos I had taken over the last few months of some very big trees in Australian rainforests such as Wingham Brush (Ficus Macrophylla),Dorrigo National Park (Sloanea woollsii or Yellow Carabeen) and Myall Lakes National Park Tops National Park (Eucalyptus grandis or Flooded Gum).
The two smaller trees are Dendrocnide excelsa (Stinging Trees)which are very common in Wingham Brush.
Shots of these massive trees follow this photo.
The different perspectives of the shots however do not provide a valid comparison between the photos and while the Australian trees were comparatively taller they may not have been as large in terms of cubic metres of timber capacity.
This Ficus macrophllya tree was by no means the largest in Wingham Brush with one tree possibly getting close to Te Matua Ngahere for girth at the ground level, however it was impossible to photograph it.
