"Don't be afraid, land; rejoice and be glad, for the Lord has done great things.
Don't be afraid, wild animals, for the wilderness pastures have turned green, the trees bear their fruit, and the fig tree and grapevine yield their riches." Joel 2

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The Larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead, Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Baby is technically due tomorrow, so this may be our last jaunt out for a little while!
At the Manassas Battlefield park, about a half-hour outside of town, trying to catch some of the Perseid meteors.
A couple of miles from my village lies the reddist field I have seen. It's surprisingly difficult to capture effectively though and I preferred this telephoto shot at f2.8.

As the glow of morning light spread across the field
she nibbled peacefully
the tan and golden colors of the discarded harvest
... hid her gracefully
the sunshine warmed her sleek long shape
made her shadow grow
unknowingly to her, it was her time to shine
the star of the show
but the mighty hunter in the discarded field today
didn't have a gun or bow
he held his weapon patiently took careful aim as well
seeking his prize at dawn
and added another trophy to his growing framed collection
one caught beyond the horizon.
Poem by Kelly De Witt Schlicht
A time to remember all those who have lost their lives or friends and families in all the many wars and conflicts around the world.

Actually, this is the Sunwapta River, a major tributary of the Athabasca, which flows along the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) between Jasper and the Athabasca Glacier. Here we are about a third of the way between Jasper and Banff, quite near the Athabasca Glacier, which is the main source of water for the river. The gorgeous mountain to the left of the road is called Tangle Ridge.
The Athabasca River including the Sunwapta has its headwaters in the Columbia ice field located just behind the mountains in front and to the right in this photograph. I will show photos and talk about the Columbia ice field later in this set, but now I would like to say something about the river itself. The Athabasca is one of Canada's most beautiful rivers, especially in its upper reaches, because it flows through one of the country's most scenic regions, the Rocky Mountains. It is also one of the most threatened of the entire world. This is the same Athabasca River that flows pass Fort McMurray and through the oil sand region of Alberta, about 1,000 km downstream from here, before it empties into Lake Athabasca in the far north of the province. All Canadians are well aware of the mega controversy surrounding the oil sands. Because of the oil sands, Canada can claim to have the second largest proven oil reserves in the world (at 179 bbl of which 170 bbl are in the oil sands). But exploiting those reserves is proving to be extremely detrimental to the ecology, most notably to the lower Athabasca River basin.

From 'In Flanders Fields' - a war poem in the form of a rondeau, written during the First World War by Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier Alexis Helmer, who died in the Second Battle of Ypres.

About
From the vault.
Taken in Warwick, a long long time ago.
Well, at least one part of the image is from Warwick. The Clouds come from my 'cloud stock library' I've not tried this before, so I thought I'd give it a go, its simple really.
The trick is to use shots taken from a similar angle and shooting conditions etc.
Did you pick it?
Would you know if I didn't tell you?
Enjoy.
- Canon 400D (taken before the upgrade)
- ISO 100, f13, 1/125, 20mm.
- Sigma 10-20 lens
Processing
- Layer masking using two images.
- Blended one of my stock cloud shots with a shot of these fields.
Music
"Strawberry Fields Forever" is a song by the English rock band The Beatles. Recorded at the end of 1966, the song was written by John Lennon during the filming of How I Won The War and is formally credited to the Lennon/McCartney songwriting team. It is named after a Salvation Army house in Beaconsfield Road, Woolton, Liverpool where Lennon played as a child.
