Series of six. I had the opportunity to watch a falconer exercising his Peregrine on the Downs. Normally all I see of a Peregrine is a quick flash and its gone, so it was a good opportunity to get some close-ups. One day I may get the same of a wild bird. Would be nice!
Captured in motion, this installation definitely just begs for a comparison to be made between itself and the latest toy craze Fidget Spinners.
Unfortunately, though these are not giant Fidget Spinners but rather swings, that form part of the Freedom of Movement installation at this year's Vivid Festival in Sydney.
In my opinion, it's probably the most fun of the installations to shoot this year.
You can find out more information about the installation at tinyurl.com/ybttxask
Two Fidget Spinners (that light up) taken during a recent Buckingham Camera Club practical evening. Only the Fidget Spinner on the bottom (in black) was actually spinning. The fidget spinner on the top (in purple) was attached to the other one using some blu tak to prevent it from sliding off. The whole set up was lit by one LED lamp (top left)

Fidget and Mouse are checking out rescue hen Irie to make certain that it's safe to admit her to the flock. She has to be licked all over to initiate her into the tribe. Irie's not thrilled about that, but rules are rules.

Ring-a-Week 3: January 21, 2011.
Sterling silver, patina
Marquise elements freely rock back and forth
I've posted this cube on MOCpages in May 2014. With the recent hype about "fidget toys" more and more "copies" of this cube are appearing (and even sold) in the web. So I decided to publish (what I consider) the original with it's story on flickr, too:
After some other 3D Lego Puzzles I had the idea to build a "magic folding cube". Cubes like this are often used for promotional or merchandising purposes. I have a picture cube from the first "Lord of the Rings" movie which works the same way. It's not really a puzzle when you play with it, but it was a puzzle to build ;-)).
The idea was to build it as small as possible with an edge length of two studs for the eight "sub cubes". The only possible hinges for such a cube were 1x4 / 2x2 hinge plates. I analysed the position of the hinges on my picture cube and tried to transform them into a working Lego model. I tried a lot of SNOT elements which all didn't work. Then Lego released a new inverted 1x2 / 2x2 SNOT bracket and the folding cube worked with it ;-)).
I wanted to put a black and white "checkered" pattern on the cube, just like I had done with my Soma Cube before. But the brackets only existed in black, grey and red, so I chose a black and red pattern instead. For that I seperated the hinge plates and recombined them.
On MOCpages since May 2014

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I have to poke you with my nose and lick your face until I get you back on your feet.
A Magic Folding “Fidget” cube with the design of a micro scale space ship in a Classic Space blue/grey/trans-yellow colour scheme.
The Borg Cube was my first idea for a magic folding “model” cube, a CS space ship was the next one. Being a fan of the first generation as I am, the colour scheme had to be blue/grey/trans-yellow.

Than to tangle with Mouse, but Fidget decided that she wanted BOTH bowls of Molly's doggie delight egg dinner.
Mouse puts up with an almost unlimited amount of Fidget's growling and posturing, but this time Fidget bit her on the haunch.
Hard.
It wasn't long until Mouse had a solid hold on Fidget's face.
Fidget and Mouse interrupted their dinner to check out a noise from the woods.
(And it was a good dinner, Molly's chicken-vegetable-rice doggie meat loaf.)
Mouse, at left, always gives her laser-lock stare in the direction of the noise. Fidget is more of a scanner, looking from left to right with a furrowed brow.
I saw two foxes the other morning standing on the ice on the pond, eating some fresh snow. They're really on the move this time of year, really hungry.
They keep well clear of the poultry pasture.

These things are all the rage. Developed for children with ADHD, they have become the "it" thing to have. Teachers are collecting them from students because they are saying it interrupts the learning process in the classroom. This one was printed for me by my daughter on a 3D printer.
WEEK 31 – TRUBeContinued (II)
Beyond the nursing chairs – behind that makeshift dividing wall seen in the previous photo – you've got a fairly large selection of disused shelving units, blocked off by some caution tape. Now, since everything inside the store was supposedly on sale as a result of the bankruptcy, logic would dictate that these ought to have been included in the fixture sale, and had simply already found buyers and were therefore roped off until the store closed and said buyers could come pick the fixtures up... but at the same time, I don't remember seeing any sale tags (let alone “sold” ones) here, so who knows.

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
"Fidget, you're eating snow again. Every survival book I've ever read says that eating snow lowers your core temperature so much that it will kill you."
"Well Boss, I'm just the dog, but lets do the arithmetic. It takes about 80 kcal to turn a liter of ice into a liter of water. Since I drink about half a liter per day, that's 40 kcal per day that I spend melting ice."
"Uh, OK, Fidget, go on."
"Now a cup of dog food has about 400 kcal, so I'm using 1/10 of a cup a day to melt ice. And you give us as much food as we want in cold weather, so it's no big deal." It only takes one extra mouthful a day to melt the ice
"Well, Fidget, I'm not sure I follow the math, but it sounds like you do. I was just worried about you."
"Boss, worrying isn't good for you. Just chill out and have some snow."
At least from Fidget's point of view. We're heading to 25F (-4C) tonight, a record for the date. (Previous record was 30F in 1906.)
She came in tonight for a bit and then asked to go out again. :)

Fidget has started laying down her winter coat. This doggie makes hair like clouds make rain.
She looked like this just three months ago.
Fidget just started a low-dose prednisone taper for some hot spots that made a late summer appearance. She has had far less trouble this summer than in previous years, so the whole allergy regime seems to be working.
