I discovered this Only Hearts Club outfit at our local ShopKo. These are the first items I've seen in stores since our Target stopped carrying them. They may be phasing them out also because there weren't too many items on the shelf, so I may just go back and clean out the rest of the clothes. I hate paying postage shopping online.

This came with a purple shrug, but the dress bodice is so pretty I didn't want to cover it up.

What a fidget. I gave up trying to capture this head on with the Canon and went back to my trusty compact. Middle shot is Canon, but it was too difficult to keep track of this one on the wall and with the background, the canon had difficulty focussing.

Members of Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre, create a Tricolour in mid air at the Limerick St Patrick's day parade. Picture: Brian Gavin/Press 22

More than 80,000 spectators soaked up the spring sunshine and carnival atmosphere of Ireland’s largest regional St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Limerick City today (Thursday, 17 March 2016).

Parade Grand Marshal, local actor Myles Breen, led more than 4,000 participants from 100 different community groups, companies, bands and sports clubs from across Limerick and Ireland for the parade which is organised by Grooveyard Productions on behalf of Limerick City and County Council and Limerick 2020.

This year's theme was 'Commemorate' celebrating Limerick's legacy, its people and its places. Among the participants in this year's Parade were pop duo Jedward and Fidget Feet Ariel Dance Company which performed a crane show over the city centre streets. Meanwhile, street arts company Spraoí brought their spectacular Stag Show to Limerick's main thoroughfares, Artastic and Spotlight Dance School provided a show-stopping spectacle, and The Workhouse Studio thrilled the crowds with their giant puppet and a host of colourful costumes. Other parade participants included The Fanzini Brothers, Danger Boy, Outside the Box, Flying Wheels, Clown Noir and Passepartout along with a wide range of local performance groups.

I made this quilt for my dad who has Alzheimer's Disease. It is a sensory and memory quilt.

The fabrics have different textures, and the pictures are ones that he picked out that are meaningful to him. The back is a very soft fleece.

*~*~*~*

DETAILS ABOUT THE QUILT:

The quilt is made up of 5" x 5" squares of fabrics that have different textures. They all are either blue, green, purple, and/or gold in color (so there's some unity or color scheme). ... See More

I had my dad pick out pictures that were meaningful to him. He did this process twice - the second time finding some more pictures that he forgot to include the first time.

As I looked through them, I noticed that he didn't have some that I KNOW would have been meaingful. Asked him if he wanted to include (for example) the one of him with his steer. "YES!" he said. "But I couldn't find it."

So we went through one of his old scrapbooks together and any picture he stopped to talk about and share a good memory about, I took out. We came to a picture of his mom and dad when they were much younger and in a loving embrace (probably in their 40s). All he managed to get out before the tears started coming were, "They loved each other so much."

I scanned all the pictures he chose plus the ones we found together in the scrapbook. Put the images into a Microsoft Word document making sure that the pictures were no larger than 4" x 4". Printed them on fabric that has a heat-set backing (got it at Office Max).

Ironed the pictures onto 5" x 5" white cotton fabric squares so they stand out from the other quilt squares.

Sewed all the squares and rows together. Hand sewed some "fidget items" onto 1 square in every other row. For example, in one row are 2 gold angels (they have a shank on the back - like buttons) to represent his parents. In another row are 5 buttons to represent 5 people in his family.

Assembled and sewed the quilt together - the top, fiberfill middle (didn't want to use wool like I normally do just in case the quilt needs to be washed), and soft fleece backing (another texture - and the part that will be next to his body).

I secured all 3 layers together by putting yarn where the squares meet and knotting it. Not only does the yarn ensure the fiberfill stays in place, but adds another element of "fidget items" - things he can touch and manipulate as the disease progresses.

Film

Make Mine Mink

1960

I shot a fair amount of Kodak 2475 Recording Film in the 1960s. It was intended for scientific and forensic use at ASA 1000, but we pushed it to ASA 1600 to exploit its remarkable grain structure. I used 2475 to shoot rock bands under dim pinlights and souped it in the darkroom to get "the look".

Previously, the normal thing to do was to try to minimize grain in photographs, but America developed an appetite for grainy images after Michelangelo Antonioni's Blow-Up won the Gran Prix at Cannes in 1966.

(The thing that was "blown up" was an inadvertently taken photograph of a murder scene.)

Grain was art, we thought. Suddenly people would pay for it.

We also thought Blow-Up was one of the best films ever made. Nikon's sustained and brilliant product placement made the company's`hard-to-find Nikon F the cult camera of the decade. Indeed, Nikon turned out to be the most enduring of the film's stars. (Second place, Vanessa Redgrave.)

I saw Blow-Up again a few years ago and thought it was insufferably mannered and moldy, with faux-artistic chic oozing from every seam. It was also pointlessly loutish, misogynistic and homophobic, just an awful film.

(Though Carlo De Palma's cinematography held up very well.)

It was embarrassing to watch. You might want to see it as a campy, archaeological exercise in understanding the 1960s. But really, who needs to understand that?

...

Shot from a tripod with an old 180mm f/2.8 Nikon lens at f/4. Lit with a single 40-watt-equivalent CFL bounced off a white ceiling. It was far too dark to read in the room -- I had to use peaking and magnification to get the image in focus. Shot at ISO 3200 to get highlight detail and then shadows lightened a couple of stops in post. The equivalent shadow ISO is somewhere between 6400 and 12,800.

Fidget was seeing how tall L was. He wanted to climb on top of him. And that he did.
