A mammogram is a special, low-dose X-ray technique used to take a picture of the breast, detecting and diagnosing any abnormal lumps or masses in breast tissue. One of the best tools for the early identification of breast cancer. With early identification, breast cancer can be cured while in the first stage, and recovery is more likely.
In addition, a mammogram may reveal calcifications, fluid-filled sacs or cysts. Fibroids, which are firm, movable lumps, may be seen and are common in younger women.
It is advised for women between the ages of 35 and 40, and annual mammograms are recommended for women 50 and older.

Part of my being gone had to do with my period going haywire and me
thinking I was pregnant, twice, and getting really depressed when it
turned out that I wasn't. It made me want to retreat from everything.
When we were first married, I knew I wasn't ready for a baby and was
constantly terrified that I was pregnant. We spent tons of money on
preg tests, but all were negative. I had been trying to find some BC
method that suited me, but I hate extra chemicals and hormones, and
with the history of fibroid tumors in my family, I wasn't comfortable
with any of the options I could find, so I had not used any form of
BC. I had heard of the Rhythm Method as the only "natural" option, but
that it is very unreliable. Around six months ago, my attitude changed
and I started to -want- a baby. When I again thought I was pregnant
three months into that time, I was happy, only to waste more money on
preg tests and be disappointed. Again recently, I thought I was
pregnant and was delighted, but decided to wait a whole month before
buying a test, to ward off expensive disappointment. Bought the test,
which turned up negative again. I was crushed. I was terrified that I
might be infertile. We want kids very badly. We'd love to adopt, as
well, but...to go through the process of pregnancy and birth is
something amazing that I want to experience for myself. (This is not
to say I am looking forward to labor, but I -am- looking forward to
being a mother.) Anyway, part of my wanting to have a baby -right now-
was the fear that I might not be able to have kids at all. In all
honestly, I would love to wait until we have a home big enough for
kids and I am back down to a healthier weight; I've just been so
scared that there's something wrong with me that I ignored those
things. I'd rather have a baby now than not at all.
Knowing about my unpredictable periods and disappointment in not
getting pregnant, two different friends suggested a book to me called
Taking Charge of your Fertility, by Toni Weschler. I checked it out of
the library and have spent most of the morning reading it. I'm not
even halfway through it yet, but it makes so much -sense-!
Basically, it explains FAM (Fertility Awareness Method). By paying
attention to and charting three things; your temperature every
morning, the consistency of your cervical fluids (I had noticed that
this changes throughout the month, but I never really paid attention
to -when- it changes), and the position of your cervix (this is a
slightly more difficult and optional third step), you can know
-exactly- when you are fertile, when your period is coming, and when
you have gotten pregnant.
The book also explains that a lot of the time a couple thinks they are
infertile because they are planning sex on a 28 day cycle (based in
the Rhythm method), when a lot of women have different length cycles.
It says a couple can have sex twice a week for a year and not get
pregnant simply because they are mistiming the fertile days. I felt so
incredibly relieved to read that.The charts for FAM seem a little
confusing at first, but I think I can figure it out. I'm going to
start using this method and wait to try to get pregnant. Now that I
know how to time it right, I feel like the pressure is off and we can
wait until we're more prepared.
Even if you're doing other stuff for birth control, I would suggest
reading this book just to understand your own body better. It's
helping me so much and relieving a -ton- of stress! [I'm sorry that
this is so long, but this it a -huge- thing for me!]

Chaste Tree Berry (Vitex agnus-castus)

Chaste tree berry is a valuable hormone-balancing agent. It is useful for women who have progesterone deficiency, for example women who experience erratic or long menstrual cycles (over 30 days), or for those with slow-starting, crampy menses. It is also helpful for balancing excess estrogen, which can be the cause of uterine cysts and fibroids. It has the potential to dissolve ovarian and uterine cysts. Chaste tree berry has also been shown to reduce uterine fibroid growth and to help dissolve fibroids. For this purpose, it is often used synergistically with other herbs that support the liver and lymphatic system.
Chaste tree berry appears to stimulate the synthesis of luteinizing hormone (LH) by the pituitary gland. In turn, this stimulates the production of progesterone by the corpus luteum. This indirect stimulation of progesterone production may have a regulating effect on estrogen. Corpus luteum insufficiency can cause many menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, depression, dizziness, and vaginal dryness. Chaste tree berry harmonizes and restores balance to the female reproductive system.
**Contraindications: chaste tree berry consumption should be avoided during pregnancy. Discontinue use if heavy menstrual bleeding occurs. Consult a knowledgeable practitioner before using with prescription hormones.**

🙏 Just about to begin my 4th week post op and overall I feel great!
🌳 Went out for my first “big adventure” today with @guentheralex: a 2 mile walk along the green path to pick up my favorite passion fruit (no) bubble tea.
💨 Aside from being overall quite fatigued for the last three weeks (at least one nap a day so far) & dealing with brain fog & slower-than-usual mental processing, everything has been super smooth.
About 10 days after the surgery I had my bandages off & incisions checked by the doctor. Doc said everything looked good, so I don’t go back again until 7 weeks post op.
💊 After the bandages came off, I had a pretty severe reaction to something either in the bandages or under them, and had some pretty impressive perfectly rectangular rashes on my abdomen (see stories if you’re curious). It’s taken a solid 7 days for them to clear up (and that’s the limit for using this particular cream, so hopefully it’ll clear up on its own this week).
Got my blood type all figured out, which I have now written down in many many places, just in case!
💤 For the first two weeks after surgery I mostly stayed at home, working & resting.
🚶♀️Last week, I started going for short walks in the park, working up to around 35mins at a time.
😮💨 This weekend I started pelvic rehab coaching with @breannejulia_prs to properly learn how to breathe, brace and make sure my insides stay on the inside once I start lifting again. I’m so excited to have this chance to learn the basics that I was never taught.
♀️Hopefully after my 7 week post op visit, I’ll get to start some bodyweight training & work up to lifting again with @charmacpt.
👀There are so many little details to #recovery from #hysterectomy compared to my only other surgical experience (gallbladder removal). Trying to treat it as if recovery is my job, in the hopes that it will reduce any risk of the many possible complications.
