The population of Festive Tiger beetles at this location is very healthy. Over 3 days of hunting we may have seen 100 different beetles - or we may have only seen 50 seeing the same ones over and over. This beetle represents the most common color pattern in this area.

I hope everyone has had a delightful Christmas. Unlike Europe and eastern North America, the west is getting plenty of snow this year, at long last. Scenes from Jackson and Grand Teton National Park last February when the temperatures were just around freezing, they should have been much below freezing,but I wasn't complaining..

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas celebration with your family & friends! I've always loved how fresh fallen snow enhances the pretty festive colours & glow of the lights! Looks like cotton! LoL!
Festive Coquette males boast elegant, green cheek tufts which are tipped with white. During courtship these tufts are flared outward and the male bows his head before the female, exposing a patch of pale blue bare skin on his crown. Both sexes display a white rump band as do many others in the genus, but Festive Coquettes lack the rufous on the head. They inhabit humid forests, forest borders, second growth, and cerrado where they are usually seen foraging at flowering trees and behaving similarly to other coquettes. The nest and eggs of this species have been described, but overall its reproduction has been poorly studied. Birds of the World.

How wonderfully civil; melt in the mouth butter shortbreads waiting to be eaten 'neath the Christmas tree.
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 30th of December is "festive food", so what better festive food to share than some of my own home made offerings. I make butter shortbreads each year for family and friends for Christmas as a gift. What started as a small offering has now become almost too much for me as word spread, and requests came in. Now that I work part-time, it makes it a little easier. I have to set aside a whole weekend at least which I devote just to the baking of Christmas fare in my little kitchen. So as my oven temperature increases, so does the volume on my stereo as I play a selection of my Christmas albums whilst I bake.
This year I made thirteen trays of shortbread biscuits, so around two hundred shortbread biscuits, made with a recipe almost one hundred years old, each injected with just a bit of love to the recipients.
I hope you like my choice for the theme this week, that it makes you smile... oh and bon appétit!
As this is the last “Looking Close on Friday” of the year, I should just like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in the group a very happy New Year. May it be filled with happiness and joy for you all.

Its starting to get that Christmas feeling with the turning on of the various "Dublin Winter Lights " with various landmarks & buildings featuring light projections for December 2022.
