It seems the Blowflies like the pollen from the Jade Flowers too.

Happy FriYay to everyone and have a great weekend!

Happy Fly Day Friday!

Feasting on an African Daisy.

Fire Flag Plume Moth (Sphenarches anisodactylus)

I have finally managed to track down the full ID of this Plume Moth (it has only taken 7 months from when I first saw one in the garden).

If you look closely here you will see it has its tongue out collecting some pollen.

Happy Wing Wednesday!

I took about 60 shots of this White-breasted nuthatch while having my lunch, most of them were continuous rapid shooting,

They sure love Pecans!

It decided to feast some more before fleeing.

One of the hundreds of butterflies who were feasting on these odd looking flowers along the banks of the Ohio River last week.

This is the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

This is one of many Cedar Waxwings feasting on crabapples all located in a line of trees on the narrow medial strip of a busy street. Taking photos from the sidewalk worked well except when a truck would block the view as it went by but otherwise the view was fairly close and the birds did not seem to mind the heavy traffic.

.How do we practice this presence—of reality? Scientists and mystics alike will tell us: Be present! Experiment! Stay curious. This is Contemplation 101. Let go of what you “think” is your intelligence center—because what you think is your intelligence cannot understand the atom, cannot understand the galaxies, and cannot understand what is birthing and animating all existence.

This momentous truth can occasionally be caught but not easily taught. We’re standing in the middle of an awesome mystery—life itself!—and the only appropriate response before this mystery is humility. If we’re resolved that this is where we want to go—into the mystery, not to hold God and reality but to let God and reality hold us—then I think religion is finally in its proper and appropriate place.

Common Hoverfly (Melangyna viridiceps)

You would think that a day where the temperature is around 30°C (86°F) would see some flies around! Not so today so back into the files this week.

Have a Happy FriYay and a great weekend everyone!

Happy Fly Day Friday!

Happy Eyes of March!

I was surprised to see seven goldfinches eating the Monarda seeds from the pods in my garden. This was taken later one winter morning.

Crested Goshawk feasting on a Myna

By principle, I do not want to feed birds my myself to make them come for photo shots, because I dont want to change their behaviour ..

Yet I have to admit that it is much easier to get decent bird pics close to feeders than anywhere else ..

An Eastern Spinebill feasting on the nectar from a Salvia flower.

At the Williamstown Botanic Gardens with the FFF.

Looking out our sunroom window I was hoping to catch one of the Bluebirds perched in this tree, which is more and more becoming a familiar sight.

The other day I saw the female bringing back several earthworms to her hungry babies and thought that was simply amazing to see. I never expected to catch her bringing home this feast!

Took about a dozen pics and this was one the best because you can actually see what this is. A cicada!

A butterfly feast that is, with more zinnias than a butterfly could wish for. We're preparing for a safe holiday feast here as well. Our out of town family will be ending their safety quarantine soon and we'll have a joyous gathering. Wishing all of you a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Fenced Friday!

To “get in the festive mood”.

Ok, this particular feast was before Holiday Season kicked in full-force, but the principle is the same, and the practice has continued. By the way, if you’re ever in Zurich, this place is worth a visit.
