This walk-up chicken stand--which used to be one of several links in the local "Block's" chain of drive-in restaurants--is a few blocks from Fast Eddie's better-known "Bon Air" restaurant and bar.

There are several of these top-hatted fowl scattered around the U.S.; I believe they used to all advertise the "Broaster" chain, and if Debra Jane Seltzer of roadsidearchitecture.com believes that too it's close enough to gospel for me!

After 2 days at anchor, 2 miles offshore waiting for the winds, waves and a salty the steamer "Edard L. Ryerson" passes the Lorain West Breakwater Light as she arrives with a load of "Taconite" in Lorain,. OH. Her last visit to Lorain was on Dec. 2nd, 2007.

What took 'em so long? Fast Eddie's has added a really nice patio--complete with a stage for live entertainment--that must come close to doubling the capacity of an already-huge bar & grill. The fans are equipped with little misting devices that keeps the air fairly cool even on a hot day, and the constant smell of burgers emanating from the building at first made me think these devices were equipped with little jets that dispersed burger aroma. Meat-misters, if you will.

If we ever wanted to run a tapas restaurant and bar, there is an aptly named place on 10th Ave. in Hells Kitchen neighborhood in NYC.

This mix was made the morning I realized God has not viewed my work favorably and I must pay my own bills, not spend my days seeking first the kingdom of God but getting up and going to a cubicle for wages. A dark mix of trap, hip hop, chilwave and most of all - depression.

Various antiques bottles and other items, as well as some full-page ads for MOAB from the Modesto A's program books, as well as a newspaper article about the history of MOAB.

MOAB is the descendant of a previous eatery called the Walking Chicken, originally owned by Sid and Felicity Cheatham. The Walking Chicken relocated to the location that would eventually become MOAB on Tully Road near Roseburg Ave in 1952.

As the story goes, they were eventually know for their Five by Five burger, featuring a 5 by 5 inch square meat patty. One day, a paper salesman by the name of Erv Keller (Who would go on to found Keller's Gift store, another long-lived Modesto institution that still exists to this day) stopped in to order a burger. He proceeded to wrap the burger in a extra large piece of paper, fastening it with a toothpick, and declared, "Here it is -- A Meal On A Bun."

The Cheatams bought the paper from Keller, and eventually renamed the restaurant "MOAB - Meal On A Bun".

Eventually, the Cheathams sold the business to Bob and Vi McCarthy in the 1960s. Their son, Eddie Gibson, was hired by his mother in 1962, and took over running MOAB in 1975, renaming the eatery "Fast Eddie's MOAB." Eddie still runs the place to this day.
