Melvyn Noronha, hailing from the beautiful village of Siolim in Goa, is a young man of an intelligent kind. The teenage icon is multi-talented and has been doing quite a few things more than his Goan peers would generally do. He has already been designing clothes for aspirants of beauty pageants, coaching model in ramp-walk... He teaches youngsters confidence-building. Melvyn paints, writes lyrics for his own sings, and sings wonderfully. He has ventured into theatre too. We heard him speak about himself and sing a song at the "Points of View" session of the Art & Culture Department of Goa, on November 3, 2012.

This year, Osage Artist and Fashion Designer, Dante Biss-Grayson, is showcasing his work during the 100th year anniversary of the Santa Fe Indian Market at the La Fonda Hotel from his Sky-Eagle Collection in partnership with Sovereign Santa Fe Art Expo.

The show is entitled New Native Fashion: Empower by the Sky-Eagle Collection & Sovereign Santa Fe and will benefit The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women. (CSVANW) nonprofit. www.csvanw.org

Amber Midthunder, star of the new movie "Prey" a prequel to the "Predator" movie, was slated to walk the runway with Biss-Grayson's New Native Fashion: EMPOWER, he designed a “NARU” look to play homage to the recent runaway hit where Amber plays NARU. Native American Badass! Makeup Artist, Indigenous Eyecon @calijem on Instagram worked her magic on @aeroprey models!

About Dante Biss-Grayson and Sky-Eagle Collection

Artist, Designer, Poet, Writer, Activist

Being half Native American, of the Osage Nation, Dante uses the archetype as an image to guide his artistic process, getting into a trance-like state and letting the work find itself. He adheres to the Zen tradition of simple strokes converging with one idea, leaving on the canvas one decisive expression.

Dante Biss-Grayson’s art is an expression of his experiences as a combat veteran combined with the PTSD those experiences begot him. Having studied art before enlisting, he became reacquainted with painting as a means of confronting and expressing the loss, the absurdity, and the beauty of war. He writes that he “grew up as the apprentice/protégé and son of [artists] Earl Biss and Gina Gray,” surrounded by the radical art of the 1960s/70s-era Institute of American Indian Arts.

San Diego Fashion Week 2014 - SS 15 Collection - Salwa Owens Collection

From a very young age, fashion designer Salwa Owens had a creative and entrepreneur spirit that was evident to anyone who met her. At 5 years old she was hand sewing one of a kind Barbie clothes. At 7 years old she was making fabric puppets to sell during recess to her fellow elementary school students. By her young adult years, she was giving fashion makeovers to friends upon request. It was very fitting that launching her own fashion business was in her destiny. A firm believer that fashion is a business, Salwa decided to start with a proper foundation and earn a Bachelors in Business Administration at The University of Georgia with a minor in French. She landed what she thought was her dream job, utilizing not only her business degree but also her knowledge of 3 languages, working for a large international finance corporation. Salwa decided to put Fashion School on hold to jump on this great opportunity. After almost a year of working in international finance, Salwa realized no job would ever be good enough to keep her from pursuing her dream of being a fashion designer. She decided to leave the corporate world, and became a student again, enrolling at The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising to study fashion design. She jumped right into the fashion scene in Southern California, interning in companies such as Billabong and assisting in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in L.A. Upon graduating from FIDM, Salwa decided to take her fashion and business experience, and apply it to starting her own business. Her first launch was through an Etsy shop, which she quickly outgrew and went on to launch her new e-commerce site, SNOcouture.com, & now her new label Her up and coming fashion label is one to keep an eye on, as her dreams of having a large fashion empire one day are clearly on path. We are thrilled to have her on the runway of FWSD14.
