As it is noticeable quite often in the Blythe community, and this actually never ceased to amaze me, is that Blythe artists combine many talents. This is obviously the case for Barbara, aka Sevastra, who is not only a very talented fashion designer but also a wonderful photographer. Apart from Blythe dolls, I also share with Barbara a fondness for the 70s and I especially like when her dolls are wearing boho chic styles. Barbara is the photographer of the blue team in the “For the Love of Blythe” book project and we are all so very happy to have her on board!

When I joined Flickr nearly one year ago, Jasz has been my first friend in the Blythe community. So, no need to mention how important she is to me! She has always been there each time I needed some help, and I am SO very glad she accepted an interview. Jasz has so many talents that she makes me feel giddy sometimes! Her fashion sense is unique, and she is a brilliant seamstress, customizer and photographer for Blythe. But you all know that already! Now I let Jasz talk about her fabulous dolly collection... Enjoy :)

Collecting Blythe dolls means collecting Blythe clothes too of course! And House of Pinku dresses are definitely a must-have! Their number tells it all. Julie is now working on dresses #2088 & #2089, and she hasn’t reached her 3 year anniversary yet! I already talked about Julie’s fashions here and here. But today, it’s her turn to talk!

I picked this up tonight for 20 bucks at Toys R Us. If you are into personalizing dolls and sewing your own doll clothes, this kit is worth it for the Dress Form alone. You also get 5 (very basic) dresses, 30 fabric embellishments, 127 stickers (poor quality), and 3 tubes of glitter glue.

Moolto Member Spotlight: Ginevra Lancaster - SL Fashion Designer

Once upon a time in a magical kingdom called SL, there was a Queen named Ginevra who had everything she could dream of: Blue skies, infinite lands to explore, lots of friends and some lovers. Despite all the wonders SL had to offer, Queen Ginevra felt something missing and one day she discovered what it was: The Power to Create Beauty.

Since that day in 2006, Ginevra Lancaster have created many fantastic works of art that not only make people happy but also feel special and beautiful. She has this amazing gift to create masterpieces that combines amazing colors with unique textures that is very flattering to anyone who wears it. She has a wide array of selection from casual to formal that whatever your heart desires, you can find it here.

Let's get to know this truly talented designer who helped revolutionalize the face of SL fashion to what it is today.

*Q: Who is Ginevra lancaster and what is it like to be in her shoes for a day?

GL: Ginevra , that’s me! in SL as well as in RL, Ginevra is curious of people and new experiences, light-hearted, optimistic, yet a little bit shy. She tends to trust people by default, despite she has experienced that’s not always a wise choice. She pretends to rely more on her intelligence than on emotions, yet she’s quite easy to move. She chose Ginevra as her SL name because when she was a child she used to role-play with her father: he was Lancelot, the brave knight , and she was Ginevra, the queen of his heart.

*Q: How did you get started in the fashion Industry?

GL: When I first started exploring SL (this was really long time ago, end of 2006!) my interest for fashion was luke warm....I kept on wearing freebies for months :). In fact i started by creating objects, I was so happy to experiment the “creative miracle” everyone can accomplish in-world. I can still remember how amazed I was when I discovered for the first time that I could click on the ground and …. wow! create a cube!!!

In those first days I also spent a lot of good time exploring lands, and people. I discovered fantastic places and made a lot of friends; most of the places are now gone, but some of those people are still my good friends now.

Then one day something happened: I went to see a fashion show, and became curious of the fashion design techniques. So I downloaded the clothes templates and began to experiment. I had never used a graphic program before, I really had to start from scratch, learning little by little the tips and the tricks. Six months later I dared putting on sale my first collection, and I was expecting people to fly in and buy everything… I was so proud lol. Big disillusion: apart friends, nobody cared… I realized that not only I had to learn how to design better, but also how to promote my stuff ;)

From that moment on I started building my happiness... and my prison: today I spend ninety percent of my time in-world either creating or promoting or doing PR’s. So I don’t have much time left to explore anymore :(

*Q: Please share some of your accomplishments within the fashion industry and describe what would be one of the most defining moments of your career as a designer.

GL: You know, talking about fashion in SL as an “industry” always brings a smile to my face. I rather see it as an artisanal play, at least for most designers like myself who take care on their own of all aspects, from designing to finding new shops and retailers, to running promotions, fashions shows, interviews… lol that’s a full time job, in fact you should spend 24 hrs a day to do everything properly, and possibly that wouldn’t still be enough.

Yet this play is a fascinating one, and although sometimes I think about stopping everything, it always catches me again. I simply love the feeling of creating something that will make another person here feel beautiful, sexy, desired. I had some very special moments that really flattered me: one was last summer, when I was chosen amongst the designers participating to the BOLS fashion week; another one happened beginning of 2010: my one-of-a-kind design for the Evane “Hearts for Haiti” auction was sold over 10.000 lindens…. Another recent accomplishment was designing my first mini-collection for men, whuch was very well received by customers…. And a few days ago I realized there were three fashions shows showcasing my designs running at the same time, lol …..my only problem was deciding which one to attend :D

But all this still is, and will remain, mainly a play for me. I design because this makes me feel happy. I am not really looking for more.

*Q: Who and what are your inspirations as a designer? How are your designs unique and stand out from other designers?

GL: I don’t have a clear inspiration from RL designers… apart from Valentino maybe: I believe his designs were pure, unrivalled glamour, and sometimes I realize I am unconsciously inspired by them. While if I deliberately open a magazine, choose a design that I like and start making something similar … I soon get lost in the pleasure of creating and end up with something completely different :)

I am not the person who can say if my designs are unique, yet that’s what many of my customers say, so there must be something true there... ;)

I think maybe they feel the genuine inspiration. And I spend an awful lot of time to detail and to accessorize my clothes, that’s also something people appreciate. One customer told me that when she buys something from me, she always discovers it is even more beautiful than what she had thought looking at the vendor picture … while we all know that in SL the opposite can be true ;)

*Q: You have certainly established yourself well within the fashion industry. Please tell us what you believe are the essential elements to being a successful designer in SL. Do you have any advice for aspiring designers? What do you think are keys to your success?

GL: You need time, time, and more time. Time to learn, time to experiment and time to practice in designing, first of all. Then time to establish a good PR network, time to nurture it, time to open new shops and keep them updated, time to imagine, set up and run promotions, time to participate to contests and fashion shows… time is the issue. Then of course you need energy, but I believe this should not be a problem if you love what you are doing.

Last but not least: you have to listen to your customers, listen to them even more than you listen to other designers, or promoters, or whatever. Most of my best sellers started from a suggestion, or even a criticism coming from my customers. So don’t be afraid to ask them. I always did right from the beginning, and still do.

I had the opportunity to model one of Ginevra Lancaster's Designs JUDE at the Men's Show presented by ModelX and of course, I can't wait to see what she has in store for the future.

"I am preparing at least three new models that will go on sale for the very first time - and at a very special price- at the Summer of Love Fair, opening on July 15… stay tuned ;)", teased Ginevra.

Thank you to Ginevra Lancaster for letting us interview and get to know her.
