another from our trip out last night, we found these traditional farm buildings near Jukkasjarvi, Kiruna, Sweden
It appears that there was once a double layer of insulbrick on this one. The back left corner looks interesting. It appears that there may have been a back porch that broke off.

Here is another one with a ladder on the roof. I cannot recall seeing this in jurisdictions other than Manitoba and do not know why it is seen here.
Another view of one of my winter small favorites. It was hidden deep in a shelterbelt. I hope to revisit this spring.
It struck me for the first time recently that this farmhouse is probably abandoned. First, there is another residence on the property and all the activity seemed to be around it. Second the vegetation around the house, and especially the uncut grass around the front entrance combined with the look of the entrance itself suggest that it is vacant. Finally, the curtains and pealing paint are consistent with abandonment.

I love how, just blocks from downtown, you can find a farmhouse on a huge lot -- definitely don't see that in the big city.
The snow was too deep for me to get in shooting position last winter when I first saw this old house, which has been engulphed by its shelterbelt.

I always enjoy photographing old farm buildings across the Alberta and Saskatchewan prairies. This one I captured in Southern Alberta traveling between Calgary and Lethbridge.
A traditional thatched farmhouse nestled in a mountain valley. Tamba, Japan. Medium format film scan.
The word farmhouse usually brings to mind a warmer atmosphere than this image has... like family, a hot stove, kitchen, baking, apron, overalls, and chats on the front porch. I don't know if this house was ever like that, but despite its sad condition now, it is not too hard to imagine a happier time. Historical homes in this area were emptied out because of a government plan for a dam that was never built. This is the house that goes with the barn from my last photo.
