The third phase of our farmhouse renovation and remodeling it underway: demolition work is done on the second floor as we get ready to re-do three bedrooms.
View from yard, rear of farmhouse. Trees help cool house or keep house warm, depending on the seasons. European stucco masters did the stucco work and stone work for the house. All family members have their own spaces, for studying, for working, for playing.
This house and barn combination is part of what is called the Holder Farm in Upper Allen Township, Cumberland County. The House was built circa 1836 in the federal style. Classic elements of the federal style are present including rounded fan light over the front door, symmetrical construction, and embellished brickwork in gables, chimneys, as well as Flemish bond facade. The tract on which the house and barn now stand, totaling over 300 acres, will be developed in the near future.
This is on my list of things to do. Built circa 1820, it is the headquarters of the Anne Arundel County Historical Society. Added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 2009. One of the last surviving farmhouses of a once booming local farm industry.
