As the Sun sets on the Pacific Ocean, it's time to say goodbye to the Galapagos Islands and the amazing wildlife we encountered.
The Galápagos Islands is a volcanic archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. It's considered one of the world's foremost destinations for wildlife-viewing. A province of Ecuador, it lies about 1,000km off its coast. Its isolated terrain shelters a diversity of plant and animal species, many found nowhere else. Charles Darwin visited in 1835, and his observation of Galápagos' species later inspired his theory of evolution. ― Google

That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.

This is my second attempt. On the first one I closed out of Photoshop and then I couldn't find it in my library..;) So, I had to make a collection in Lightroom and than re-do it. I kinda like it. If I do it again I think I will improve on a few items. The girl is a volunteer model. I really don't know her. I shot her at a festival. I knew I would use her in one of my images some day. Guess today is some day..;)
Gosh, I've spent so many hours on this deck looking at this view. I love this place so much and have always said this was my forever home but it's time for a new chapter.
Thanks for the memories, SR ❤️

'When they turn the pages of history
When these days have passed long ago
Will they read of us with sadness
For the seeds that we let grow
We turned our gaze
From the castles in the distance
Eyes cast down
On the path of least resistance'

This is a farewell to my beloved 5D mark 2 and Canon 16-35mm f2.8L as now they swim with the fishes in some far off never never land. OH how I will miss you my dear friend......Moment of Silence.... :-(
It is a tradition for me to upload a parting shot for the year. I don't even know where to begin with describing 2020. You all know and can most certainly relate. A year of extremes, but not everything was bad. Certainly a year of introspection. This shot is from my front porch - a side window showing the world beyond - a world of opportunity that awaits.
Happy new year everyone.

Hemingway said "retirement" is the ugliest word in the language. "Farewell" could be the saddest word, unless it's not the last one.

A gray whale waves farewell with its tail, signalling the beginning of a deep dive along the coastline of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska.
(Altered Reallity - The whale was photographed 30 minutes later with only the ocean as a background... it would have been so much more scenic if it had been seen here!)
The reworking of my very first picture 2007 will be my last one for a longer goodbye. But I will be back in a few months.

Since 2013 I am back with fresh power!
A tragedy is not only when human or animal life is lost. A tragedy is also when a historic landmark is destroyed. And Notre Dame de Paris, was one of them. As a photographer highly interested in architecture, a day like today saddens me deeply. It's a shame to read in the 21st century that a building that sustained wars, sieges over the span of 600 years suffered so serious damage because some people were careless. I am not French, however I understand how a part of every French person got burned today.
Farewell Notre Dame..
To 2024.
I can't say that I'm unhappy to see it go, as for a number of reasons it has been a pretty "challenging" year.
Here's wishing a better 2025 for all!
