Pyrrharctia isabella, the Isabella tiger moth, whose larval form is called the banded woolly bear, woolly bear, or woolly worm, occurs in the United States and southern Canada. I found the spicule pattern intriguing. One can't see it well in the uncurled larva.

The no-neck, stub-billed, "Canada goose". This little one showed up in the same park last year and stayed over the winter. It roams about with a big-brother non-migrating resident Canada goose who protects it from the nasty territorial gang wars of the domesticated Greylag geese. Being migration season, I've really enjoyed reading Tim Birkhead's chapter on the ornithological history of bird migration from his fabulous, fabulous book The Wisdom of Birds: A History of Ornithology

Do you believe that birds migrate? Of course you do. No cause to believe otherwise right? Well, surprise, surprise, it wasn't always a generally accepted belief that birds migrate.

Before Aristotle most european cultures believed birds migrate. Aristotle, in his usual funky fashion, got it wrong in 300 BC - and scuttled migration science for over a 1000 years. It wasn't until the late 1700s and early 1800s that migration became an accepted fact. From 300 BC to about 1600 AD people didn't believe in migration at all. The longest held fallacy was that swallows didn't migrate, but instead hibernated underwater. Really! The philosopher's quoted God a lot. "God wouldn't have birds migrate because it would be a waste of energy." "God wouldn't subject birds to such stresses as migration", etc. One experiment in the 1700s included holding a swallow underwater for minutes (the swallow soon died) to show that this was unlikely. Another experiment involved banding with water-soluble dyed thread - if the birds really hibernated under water, in the spring their bands would have lost their color. Never happened. Confronted with the first swallow experiment - one philosopher [a lawyer by training] claimed the experiment wasn't valid because it wasn't done in winter. The ludicrousness went on and on. Eventually science won. It was again the triumph of reason (i.e. field observation and experiment) over belief (i.e. religious and philosophical tracts such as Aristotle, etc.). It took over half a millennia for migration to be accepted by westerners.

Given the history of migration science, the lack of science understanding in America seems understandable. We only have to wait 500 years before we don't have school boards telling teachers to teach "Creationism" as well as evolution.

The chicken or the egg causality dilemma is commonly stated as "which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

To ancient philosophers, the question about the first chicken or egg also evoked the questions of how life and the universe in general began.

Cultural references to the chicken and egg intend to point out the futility of identifying the first case of a circular cause and consequence. It could be considered that in this approach lies the most fundamental nature of the question. A literal answer is somewhat obvious, as opposed to the logical fallacy of the metaphorical view, which sets a metaphysical ground on the dilemma.

Many ancient and contemporary philosophers tried to solve or explain this problem. It was perplexing to them and commonly discussed by others as well.

I’m not philosopher and by my opinion the solution depends of what kind of egg or which hen is participating in this game. Guess many simple people think as I do. This shot was taken quite some time ago. It gives a bit of a detail on Spanish Moss on an evergreen tree of some sort.

Here in the South, Spanish Moss is everywhere. It is an air plant, and derives its nutrients and moisture from the air. It is a fallacy that it is a parasitic plant. It takes nothing from its host plant, and will not kill a tree unless it so densely covers the tree that sunlight cannot get to it, which is seldom the case, however, it has been noted that Spanish Moss does tend to appear on trees that are dying. This is true, also, of fungi.

To qualify this article l would like to go on the record that l have been instructed by some amazing teachers, all with academic titles. Furthermore, it must be said, that l have stated publicly, that l could not name, nor count, the number of exceptional teachers that have instructed me, because there where too many. This article is not about teachers, but a lack of exceptional ones. I personally find it distressing, because all children should be given the type of opportunity l had, and therefore a chance to defend themselves. This article is about a process, one that needs to be classified, and identified, with conscious critical thought. Critical thought involving observations. It involves observations that some of those with titles would or could be ignorant of. A situation, driven by those of systemic privileged, or those with ivory towers that render them unable to see.

All biological systems strive for survival, even small single cell organisms, like amoebas. They do it without seemingly thinking. But the difference between the amoebas, and the humans, is meant to be human thought, and human conciseness. Recently a new local high school was built in Shepparton Victoria Australia, and it was ironically named the super school. Already it has helped give the locals here an education, producing a lot of conscious contemplation among residents. It was the amalgamation of three out of three, or all the of the public high schools in the small city of Shepparton. Its construction left no options for some residents, and in the United States of America, criticism of schools like this new school, is commonplace. In the United States, the lack of choice as to where you can send your children in the public school system causes for some public debate. That debate now rages here, and for good reason. The results were highly predictable, with comparable results to that of America. The result has been that the police have been called repeatedly. There have been weapons, fights, and even the aspersion that a student suicide could be attributed to the new super school. Academic performance of the schools results are now unknown, as the education system now uses a sliding ruler, one that is remotely monitored by a now faceless group. It has resulted with any aspersion, that the school is a failure being foiled and deemed as a baseless slur. Some educated locals went into overdrive sighting personal responsibility of the individual and the lack there of, for some students and parents.

The defence of the hegemon, when the school had become a nightmare, for both the teachers and the Victorian Labour party, became a name and shame process directed at some locals, and their children. Some trying to defend the teacher’s union darling the Australian Labour party, which had help instigated the fiasco. A fiasco that was easily avoided if they had studied the American application of such schools. Was it ignorance? Was it Australian ego for the Victorian education board? Was it in the worst-case scenario, a deliberate act to produce a school that applied an American model? A model, that had historically repeatedly produced poor social outcomes. One that had already failed in the United States? If educated people, including some teachers where defending the super school, it raised the question, where were these teachers and educated people sending their children to be educated? Was it to the new super school? If it was, were they following the tried-and-true public-school scenario, of teachers and influential parents, making sure their children where in handpicked classes? Did they do as had been done before, making sure their children had handpicked teachers, and handpicked students for their children to study with, while the average people got the undesirables? Where they conscious of what they had given their children, or where they being deliberately ignorant? Because if it were found that they were guiding the lily for their children, what would be the public reaction?

How far some educated had shifted from sixties social liberal ideals; and it raises a lot of questions! Did they know what was happing? That it is happening? Where they unwittingly involved, blindsided by psychological drift? Psychological drift being a change so slow and gradual, that they were perceptually blindsided by ignorance, and or a lack of self-awareness. Did they not notice the change in their attitudes? Did they not critically look at what they were and are participating in? Or where they unwittingly led by mistaken ignorant logic? And in the worst-case scenario, was the new school planned? And where the resultant outcomes statistically inevitable, but desired?

This is an initial exploration of investigative journalism, on the outcomes of the worst-case scenario, and is based mostly on firsthand experience and observations. My apologies, for what may seem like a not so interesting picture. But the building in the picture resembles some of the prisons in which some of the students will go to serve sentences. It has been satirically joked, and it was not meant to be funny by some of the locals, that once they go to prison, they will be fully prepared. The building, and violence, will not be much different from the school, that they received their high school education in.

Most people are educated or warned of nepotism at high school, and or university. It is a self-serving process for those that teach it, as it helps classify hereditary royalty or Aristocracy as an exhausted, and or morally corrupt institution. But now this teaching, has become a matter of hypocrisy, for those that teach it. It helps define the institutionally educated as those that should control and distribute influence, because it is said, that they earned their positions via merit, and not via a process involving gross nepotism. Nepotism that is now openly practiced by the educated, when it comes to the education of their children, versus the education of the masses. Some openly fight, unquestioned, for causes that proactively push for their children, to be preferentially, and proactively treated like the children of people of aristocratic tittles were accused of. They even give themselves tittles at universities, letters before their names. It helps distinguish and make themselves distinct from ordinary people, or the new commoners. It even extends to those selected to represent them in the student bodies. But unlike the sixties student bodies that rallied against war, in the new higher education system student bodies, they actively participate in a new form of war.

It is now the new millennium, and there is a new form of warfare to avoid. It involves some people of title, but this is not an article on the aristocracy. It is no longer the song “The fortunate son,” sung by Creedence Clearwater Revival. A sixties song about the sons of the rich and influential not going to war. Now it is the fortune “academic,” the person who has a higher education. They and their children are mostly excluded, and do not have to go to war. I had previously reported that the new courthouse here in Shepparton Victoria Australia, was colloquially being called building B by some of the locals. It is B for Birkenau, and the name is partly why l write this. The other reason is that all the positions of power in building B, are held by people with academic titles. Titles involve in skewed eugenics and nepotism. The scenario faced is like “good cop, bad cop” tactics, but is applied by those with academic titles, not the police. It happens on multiple fronts. One such front is that large numbers of educated people openly promote or condone drug use, while others incarcerate as many as they can. Fifteen percent of all Australian prisoners are imprisoned on drug charges, out of approximately thirty thousand currently in jail, and many more are committed to psychiatric facilities because of it. If the objective of the educated was to reduce harm, they have abjectly failed, and the opposite has happened. Was it intentional? Where they trying to build a prison system as speculated by the band “The system of the down” in the “prison song.” And did The System of the down not see, or know, of the outcomes for those classified as ill, as they promoted in their song as an alternative? I once approached the subject on the Victorian Parliamentary Facebook page. In the description, l drew the analogy, that the incarceration, and medical treatment of individuals for drug use, was like Chinese re-education camps, and that they existed in Victoria, and they existed on an industrial scale.

Has this industrial scale of human processing, produced a form of unconscious time dependent opportunistic nepotism? Like amoebas, instead of critically thinking humans, had we all allowed it to happen? Had we all listened unquestioningly to the educated? And had it created a new form of nepotism. A form that helps the educated-on average, have their children precluded from a statistical death march. A process of prolonged involuntary distress, involving the battlefield of the court, the prison system, involuntary medical treatment and or classification. The result is, the children of the educated, on average get the better jobs, have better outcomes, have higher positions of power, and sway larger numbers of people behind their causes. The consideration of building B, and firsthand observations, raised the horrendous proposition of who needs a gas chamber, when you have statistics? The western world has in general shunned America for its seconded amendment, but a closer look at the west, even those countries without a second amendment of sorts, or an official death sentence, produced horrific observations. The realty is state sanctioned, systemic modern-day murder.

While at university l helped challenge the central dogma of biochemistry with prions, or the protein that causes mad cow disease. A bold effort, but l was young and idealistic. Amusingly it should also be noted that the lecturer l told it too, asked my permission to use it. He later taught me about a story of the two scientists Watson and Crick. As far as my memory servs me, he said, they had plied a French scientist’s son with alcohol, the result was his tongue loosened, and he talked about his father’s research. They subsequently wrote down what he divulged on a bar napkin. It was for the base pair arrangement of DNA (deoxyribose nucleic acid). And from it came the logical deduction for the final double helix model of DNA. Latter l would go on to joke, that Watson and Crick had won a noble prize in biochemistry. Not for the structure of DNA, but for the judicious application of a biochemical agent, or a neuron toxin, ethanol. I was being facetious. Despite some successes at university, it was hard for many reasons. Part of the experience of university was trying to theorise Protein specific proteases to combat the AIDS epidemic. Another was for the construction of proteins to treat the disease. As a result, l gained an appreciation of the complexities of medical treatment when it comes to who dies and who survives, and what role academics play in that process. The conclusion gained was that life and reality are quite brutal.

Academics already openly argue behavioural eugenics with psychiatric history, via genetic predisposition of psychiatric illness. Medical professionals in hospitals and criminal systems, universally practice it throughout Australia. A process that has been publicly shunned for occurring during the second world war, is practiced here in Australia, and the practise is commonplace. As a result, victims, and those suffering psychiatric illness are dosed with poison, and lives are ended prematurely. Slowly, chemically, euthanising thousands, with statistical outcomes. The statistics are, that many psychiatric medications cause on average premature death. Additionally, it is statistically observed that those taking most psychiatric medications are highly discouraged from conceiving, and or nurturing, an in-utero baby while taking their medication. Paradoxically psychiatric professionals discourage most people from stopping their medication; thus, a person is neutered with logic gates. On one hand, it is presumed that a person cannot stop taking their medication for their own safety, and or the safety of the public. And on the other hand, due to the birth defects or abnormalities associated with such medication, and for the sake of your baby, they say those classified, should not have children while being administered their medication. This process occurs for not adhering to the party line, not a political party line, but the new scientific line, one that involves a new group with titles. It is not ironic, that the rules of this process, are not in general being taught to the new commoners.…

Some of the new people with titles are the emperor with no cloths, and they cannot be questioned. l presume criminal history will be next here in Australia for the classification of genetic predisposition, after psychiatric predisposition has been fully fledged. A reborn process, for people of titles. One adopting the Chinese model of re-education camps, like those already here in the state of Victoria. An extension of the current medical model, of psychiatric treatment. A model for social conduct and classification involving social reward. A model that involves if you will have children or not. A process that relies on obeying the edicts of the new people of title.

Do these new people of title, wield absolute rule, as Justin Trudeau a high school teacher, and Canadian prime minister applied to his people for a brief time? It is a rhetorical question. He applied his title, like European aristocracy where stereotypically and historically accused of. By self-edict of law, he made his words unquestionable, and the words of new common people’s (those predominantly without academic titles) decent outlawed. Is this the new party line or the academic line, of pseudo pacifist proper gander? Is this what the new Aristocracy, or people of title do? Is this where you rely on the fallacy of lack of personal responsibility? An assumption involving privy knowledge, before socially engineering incidents via carefully worded classifications, and or, build a school that is most certainly bound to fail, and with it, classify whole blood lines educated in it, as inferior? Classifications using peer reviewed definitions. Peer reviewed definitions written ironically and hypocritically by those with new age titles. Articles which cannot be questioned by the new age commoner, but only by their academic peers. Once again it is rhetorical. All the while, they exclude their own children from the process, with their systemic peer derived privilege. It all sounds historically and remarkably familiar. And it happens while relying on the medical industry complex, and criminal industrial complex, for statistically predetermined social outcomes. It enables people to slowly but surely exterminate their undesirables. It is a proposition that has already happened and is currently happening.

The result is that via spurious association of genetic predisposition for behaviour, some families are being genetically classified, and weeded out via the behaviour of individuals in their families. Part of psychiatric dogma is to look for a family history of psychiatric illness then argue it is genetic. And that that genetic trait is no longer beneficial or needed. If one member of a family has had anything that could be classified as an incident, it is then argued that there is an increased chance of a genetically induced psychiatric incident or incidents happening in other family members. The result of such logic is the application of drugs, such as anti-psychotics, which on average drastically reduce the life span of the patient or victim. The medications, can, and are, forcefully administered, by people of new age titles. The additional subsequent logic gating, weight gain, and body odour causes the person to be seen as undesirable, or substandard, and lowers their chance of having children. The result is a death sentence for the patient, and a reduced chance of them having offspring. In the very least it is murder, if the diagnosis is wrong, and causes a slow, but sure reduction in the size of the victim’s family. As the application of this scientific dogma becomes more prevalent, or prolonged, the result is near genocide.

Personal statistical analysis of public psychiatric facilities is that they are full of people of lower education levels. But full of people that do not lack intellect. Why are the educated mostly excluded and deemed as being above it? They can afford both preferential systemic sympathetic medical representation, and systemic sympathetic legal representation, thus, avoiding the classification of being genetically substandard. Furthermore, those responsible for the classification and criminal punitive punishment of both criminal and psychiatric failings, are associated to those in academic institutions. It is a family operation, no different from the stereotype of aristocracy. When one of their own is brought before the court system, either in the medical or criminal court, it is raised that they are above average, and given on average, lower sentences, or even no sentences at all. They are deemed, as being inherently better than the average human, due to the letters or tittle before their name. It is a repeat of the stereotype of the old aristocratic system, of human classification. The current stereotype of those below the educated, is that they are being incarcerated, and medically treated, for both their good, and the safety of the public. So why are the educated spared more on average from this process, despite in cases committing the same crimes? I can identify no reason, other than their self-appointed peerage.

The observation is that behavioural eugenics, has turned to a practice of statistical genocide over an extended period, and it is a practice being mostly applied by the educated, and in favour of themselves. It is a statistical death march for some families. A prolonged process that involves the application of self-serving statistics, and a classification that ends in the lower chance of reproduction for selected individuals, and the increased chance of a family’s genetics being branded as dangerous or substandard. Thus, it negates any responsibility of having enabled the elimination of that family’s or group’s blood line, or in the very least, part of it, because it was, and is said, to be for the greater good. It is for the “uber alles,” but has nothing to do with German nationalism, and as it stands, it is predominantly males in the groups of families. Leaving the females on average in those families as breeders for those deemed as genetically worthy. Genetically worthy for the last 20 years has been those that had drugs, or those that had an education and there for had money. Those that had drugs, and there for a higher chance for reported psychiatric and criminal incidents, could break the nuclear family rule, but they walked a fine line. In breaking the law, they put their families or the males in their families on lists for slow, undetectable state sanctioned extermination. On the other hand, those with cash and an education, could break the nuclear family rule, having more than two children in an already overpopulated world. Both scenarios being state encouraged with government subsidies.

As an Australian, l found, and find, this scenario highly ironic. If the scenario were not real, it would be satire. It is shocking in its irony because the Australian colony was originally populated with predominantly criminals. According to the new eugenics line of thought, all Australian families, other than new arrivals carry as per the eugenics line of thought, a predisposition, of genetically predetermined behaviour, one that is now being openly classified, as a genetic trait. Doubly ironic, is the historical fact, that they even sent unwilling females from England, who were upon arrival, to be bred with no choice in the matter like cattle, and to service those men deemed as worthy. Nothing in the Australian colony, a previous penal colony, seems to have changed too much, just the family names of the families with titles or letters before their names now differ. And instead of hanging you, they now classify you, and your family, as a genetic medical issue, or defect. A medical issue to be slowly euthanised for the benefit, and protection of society, and the greater good.

The only consideration that this worst-case scenario leaves me with, is have the educated hit the philosophical slippery slope, or have they just thrown the new commoners down it? Creating a caste system via an education system. An education system, skewed in the favour of those with new age titles. An education system, giving systemic preferential treatment too those with new age titles, and their children. Is the new commoner’s child starved of an education? A quality education? One which is now harder for my geographical neighbours to find. An education, which helps prevent their public-school child or children, and their family, from a statistically higher chance, of a state sanctioned, and a state sponsored statistical death march. A march, that begins, and ends, in a trip to building B. A trip, with a higher chance of genocide at the end. And as it stands, my neighbours are being told,” let them eat cake!”

Death of David Chain

David Nathan "Gypsy" Chain (June 17, 1974 – September 17, 1998) was an environmental activist. He was killed by a falling tree in suspicious circumstances during a protest in California Redwood Forests against the Pacific Lumber Company.

Background

Chain was a member of the Earth First! environmental advocacy group and was engaged in a campaign of tree sitting in order to stop what they considered was illegal logging, in breach of California Forest Practices Act, in the Headwaters Forest, 350 miles (560 km) north of San Francisco, near Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park. Headwaters was the largest private holding of old-growth forest in the world. Following a hostile takeover of Pacific Lumber Co., the Murphy family (the largest minority stock holders at the time) and countless previous stockholders, mostly company employees, were relieved of their stock by Charles Hurwitz and his Maxxam, Inc. corporation of Texas.[3] Between a desire to turn a higher profit and the need to start paying off the debt incurred from acquiring the company, Hurwitz's Maxxam replaced the sustainable growth policy of the previous owner-managers with one of clearcutting. The new practices led to the so-called Redwood Summer campaign by environmentalists, and ultimately forced the 140-year-old company to declare bankruptcy.

Many residents of the area made their living through logging. On the one hand, some members of the community in the nearby mill town of Fortuna strongly resented the presence of activists from other areas, as these were not aware of the potential economic impacts of logging stoppages. On the other hand, environmental activists like Chain believed that clearcutting was not sustainable and highlighted that the choice of jobs or the environment was a fallacy.

Circumstances of his death

According to Humboldt County Sheriff Department, Chain was struck by a falling tree while trying to stop logging. He was killed instantly and died of massive head trauma. In response to his death, a Pacific Lumber Co. spokesperson said their logging crew did not see anybody in the area and were unaware of Chain's presence. Earth First! said that the loggers had been deliberately felling huge trees, in a perpendicular manner rather than downhill, in the protesters' direction. One of the protesters also noted that the tree fellers were fully aware that they were there, as the activists had been "yelling at them, walking towards them, telling them 'Don't fell this tree'". On a videotape supplied by Earth First!, Arlington Earl Ammons, the 52-year-old logger responsible for falling the tree that caused Chain's death can be heard shouting expletives and threatening the protesters.

Based on the local sheriff's probe, Humboldt County district attorney Terry Farmer decided not to press charges, concluding Ammons had not knowingly aimed a tree at any of the protesters.

Civil suit and settlement

Following the reticence of the district attorney to file criminal charges, Chain's mother started a civil suit against Ammons, Pacific Lumber and its parent company, Maxxam, alleging they were reckless and responsible for the death of her son.

A wrongful death settlement was reached three days before trial was scheduled to commence. Its financial terms remain undisclosed but other parts were made public, as a reminder of the tragedy, the 135-foot tree (41 m) that struck Chain will remain where it fell, and a 100-foot buffer zone (30 m) prevented any nearby logging. A memorial was also erected.

Consequences

Soon after Chain's death, it was revealed that the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection had charged Pacific Lumber with at least 250 violations of the California Forest Practice Act between 1995 and 1997. These violations continued to accumulate in 1998, and in November of that year, Pacific Lumber became the first company ever to lose its logging license in California.

As a condition of reinstating their license, Pacific Lumber agreed to the creation of the Headwaters Forest Reserve. It received $380 million of public funds in return for the purchase. A Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) was also developed and approved to allow limited logging on the remaining 211,000 acres (850 km2) of Pacific Lumber Company timberland.

Often, Caucasian newborns have blue eyes, which change to green, hazel, light brown or dark brown, as they grow older. It is thought that exposure to light after birth triggers the production of melanin in the iris of the eye. By three years of age, the eyes produce and store enough melanin to have their natural shade. Many people believe their eyes change color when they change their clothing, or when they change moods. These are common fallacies without basis in fact. The eye cannot produce melanin that quickly.

Morpeth is a historic market town in Northumberland, North-East England, lying on the River Wansbeck. Nearby towns include Ashington and Bedlington. In the 2011 census, the population of Morpeth was given as 14,017, up from 13,833 in the 2001 census. The earliest evidence of settlement is believed to be from the Neolithic period, and some Roman artifacts have also been found. The first written mention of the town is from 1080, when the de Merlay family was granted the barony of Morpeth. The meaning of the town's name is uncertain, but it may refer to its position on the road to Scotland and a murder which occurred on that road. Several sports teams compete in Morpeth, with Morpeth Town A.F.C. having been the winner of the FA Vase in 2016. The town hosted its own Olympics from 1873 to 1958. Two middle schools, a high school and seven first schools are situated in Morpeth, as well as several churches of Anglican, Roman Catholic, United Reformed and Methodist denominations. Morpeth's Carlisle Park, the recipient of several awards, contains one of the four floral clocks in England.

Morpeth was founded at a crossing point of the River Wansbeck. Remains from prehistory are scarce, but the earliest evidence of occupation found is a stone axe thought to be from the Neolithic period. The barony of Morpeth was granted to the de Merlay family in around 1080, and by 1095 a motte-and-bailey castle had been built by William de Merlay. It is uncertain whether there was any settlement at Morpeth at the time that the barony was created, and documents relating to the foundation of an abbey in 1137 refer to the 'new town of Morpeth'. Newminster Abbey, located on the outskirts of Morpeth, was founded in 1138 by William's son, Ranulf de Merlay, lord of Morpeth, and his wife, Juliana, daughter of Gospatric II, Earl of Lothian, as one of the first daughter houses of Fountains Abbey. King John granted a market charter for the town to Roger de Merlay in 1200. It became one of the main markets in Northern England by the mid 1700s and by the mid 18th century was one of the key cattle markets in England selling cattle driven by drovers over the border from Scotland; however, the opening of the railways made transport to Newcastle easier in the 19th century, and the market accordingly declined. The market is still held on Wednesdays.

The town was badly damaged by fire set by the barons in 1215 during the First Barons' War, in an attempt to block the military operations of King John. Whilst it is common report that the motte-and-bailey castle was burnt down by King John in 1216[18][19] and a new Morpeth Castle was built later in the 13th century by Ranulph de Merlay, to the south of Haw Hill, there is no firm evidence that King John destroyed the castle and an alternative narrative suggests that the second castle was in fact 'completed by William de Merlay (the 2nd) in the year of his death' (c.1170). In the 13th century, a stone bridge was built over the Wansbeck in Morpeth, to the west of the current bridge, replacing the ford previously in use in Morpeth. For some months in 1515–16, Margaret Tudor (Henry VIII's sister) who was the Queen Consort of Scotland (James IV's widow), had laid ill in Morpeth Castle, having been brought there from Harbottle Castle. The only remains of the castle are the inner gatehouse, which was restored by the Landmark Trust, and parts of the ruined castle walls.

In 1540, Morpeth was described by the royal antiquary John Leland as "long and metely well-builded, with low houses" and "a far fairer town than Alnwick". During the 1543–51 war of the Rough Wooing, Morpeth was occupied by a garrison of Italian mercenaries, who "pestered such a little street standing in the highway" by killing deer and withholding payment for food. In 1552, William Hervey, Norroy King of Arms, granted the borough of Morpeth a coat of arms. The arms were the same as those granted to Roger de Merlay, but with the addition of a gold tower. In the letters patent, Hervey noted that he had included the arms of the "noble and valyaunt knyght ... for a p'petuall memory of his good will and benevolence towardes the said towne".

Morpeth was a borough by prescription but received its first charter of confirmation from Charles II. The corporation it created was controlled by seven companies: the Merchant Tailors, the Tanners, the Fullers and Dyers, the Smiths, the Cordwainers, the Weavers and the Butchers. This remained the governing charter until the borough was reformed by the Municipal Corporations Act 1835. During the Second World War, RAF Morpeth, an air-gunnery training school, opened at nearby Tranwell.

The town and the county's history and culture are celebrated at the annual Northumbrian Gathering. The gathering is held over a weekend in mid-April and includes the Border Cavalcade and Pageant. The 50th gathering took place in 2017.

Logic can either operate as part of an intellection, or else, on the contrary, put itself at the service of an error; moreover unintelligence can diminish or even nullify logic, so that philosophy can in fact become the vehicle of almost anything: it can be an Aristotelianism carrying ontological insights, just as it can degenerate into an "existentialism" in which logic has become a mere shadow of itself, a blind and unreal operation.

The validity of a logical demonstration thus depends on the knowledge which we, as demonstrators, have of the subject in view, and it is evidently wrong to take as our starting-point not this direct knowledge but pure and simple logic.

When man has no "visionary" knowledge of Being, and merely "thinks" with his "brain" instead of "seeing" with his "heart", all his logic is useless to him, because it starts out from an initial fallacy. Moreover, the validity of a demonstration must be distinguished from its dialectical efficacy; the latter evidently depends on the intuitive disposition available for the recognition of truth when demonstrated, and therefore on an intellectual capacity.

Logic is nothing but the science of mental co-ordination and of arriving at rational conclusions; it cannot, therefore, attain the transcendent through its own resources; a supralogical -not an illogical- dialectic, based on symbolism and analogy, and therefore descriptive rather than ratiocinative, may be harder for some people to assimilate, but it conforms more closely to transcendent Reality.

Contemporary philosophy, on the other hand, really amounts to a decapitated logic: what is intellectually evident it calls "prejudice"; wishing to free itself from servitude to the mental, it sinks into infralogic; shutting itself off from the intellectual light above, it exposes itself to the obscurity of the lowest "subconscious" beneath.

Philosophic scepticism takes itself for a healthy attitude and for an absence of "prejudices", whereas it is in fact something completely artificial; it proceeds, not from real knowledge, but from sheer ignorance, and for this reason it is as alien to intelligence as it is to reality.

What fascinates me here is the dissonance. This is a room designed to evoke the comforts of home or a high-end hotel. But the details betray the fallacy. Look at the wire under the lamp on the left, the lampshade askance on the right. There's no proud homemaker here, no housekeeper trained to turn on the musak and put a chocolate on the pillow. Whoever cleans here also takes out the bedpans. It's an institution, where maintaining a room inhabited by anxiety, hope, and the inexorable realities of sickness and death is just in a day's work. And paradoxically, that very indifference instills a certain serenity.

Sliabh Liag (Slieve Leage), the highest accessible seacliffs in Europe reaching a height of 1,972 feet/601 meters, is almost twice as high as the Eiffel Tower in Paris and nearly three times the height of the more famous Cliffs of Moher in County Clare.

It is often reported that Sliabh Liag are the highest sea cliffs in Europe but this is a fallacy. They are actually the fifth highest in Europe after: Cape Enniberg, The Faroe Islands 754m; Croaghun, Achill Island, County Mayo, Ireland 688m; Vixia Herbeira, Spain 621m and Preikestolen, Norway 604m, and second highest in Ireland and Britain.

The most important difference however is that Sliabh Liag is easily accessible whereas some of the others are either inaccessible or only accessible by trained hikers or mountain climbers.

She was perched atop a knapsack on the sidewalk seeming oblivious of those who passed by, those who stopped or didn't stop. Wanted to get up close & read all her tattoos but it didn't seem appropriate to push her space. She was wearing khaki shorts & tatty high-tops, tattooed legs splayed to balance her glitzy guitar. Busking to survive in a cruel world, perhaps, or just doing what she loves to do she carried an aura of solitary contentedness at this moment in time. Gastown, a now-highly-gentrified district of Vancouver, draws the tourists in droves yet it abuts Vancouver's desperate Eastside district where hang-out all the lost souls of the street, the homeless, the substance abusers, the mentally distressed. Many tourists don't dare cross that line from Gastown into Eastside, heeding dire warnings that therein danger lies, theft, assault, verbal attacks possible. It's a fallacy. Respect for their dignity, it seemed, is all that's required.

Way back in June I was mucking about on the iPaddle (as one does) playing with the distortion filters in Affinity. I probably should have been doing something more constructive but, hey-ho, life is too short.

So this is a set based around a flower pic. I chose it as a starting point because it’s a high-contrast image with oodles of radial symmetry, and I thought it would show up the distortion effects. (A slippery deceit of course as I conveniently invented the reasoning for my chaotic creative meandering after the fact - I suggest you never believe the fallacy that I really know what I am doing! :) ).

I’ll cover the processing notes for all the variants and replicate the commentary so you only need read it once (if at all, lol).

Edit 1 - Colour

A plain colour version, then given a harsh gritty feel by duplicating the image and blending back probably with hard light (though I am not entirely sure).

Edit 2 - Plain B&W

The colour version converted to B&W. Bilateral blur (an edge-preserving blur which effectively smoothes out the petals. Glow filter … for a bit of glow (though te be honest I think it’s a bit of a misnomer) :)

Edit 3 - Twirl

Starting with the plain B&W added twirl in the centre and also a radial blur. Blended the original back to the twirly version with Soft Light.

Edit 4 - Shasttered

This used the Diffuse distortion filter (not the Diffuse Light filter) to create the diffusion look. Tweaked that a bit and then took the original B&W version and blended it back with the Subtract mode. This overprinted the diffuse look with an inverted version of the original.

I really like this effect - it reminded me of splatter painting in my young days (back in the caves in France ;) ). Or perhaps printing with a flower using black paper and white ink…

For Sliders Sunday. I’ll also put the three B&W versions into the 100x challenge as I am rather behind (as life around me doesn’t seem to pause for long enough).

It’s a curious thing, why some Nikon users typically hate other brands such as Canon and especially Sony so much.

Nikon certainly has a much longer history than Sony so many Nikon users are typically long term dyed-in-the-wool fanatics and some of them tend to associate the Nikon brand to their self worth. These people will spread vicious untruths about other brands while obnoxiously defend any less than positive comments about their brand totem, no matter how factual it is. In fact, the Nikon mirrorless Z mount users in gear forums will even turn against Nikon DSLR F mount users, making cannibals look like saints!

Why such extreme cult-like behavior? Psychologically, these people are likely too deep into their brand totem and cannot accept that other brands have caught up or even surpassed their beloved brand with better features, options and performance. To deal with this internal cognitive dissonance, they can only put down the other brands just to assuage their bruised ego, especially when they lacked the means to switch brands.

It’s hence also clear why Nikon Z-ealot influencers don’t express any dislike/falsehoods against Panasonic or Olympus.

The rampant fallacies that these Nikon Z-ealots have perpetuated over the years;

(1) Sony E mount diameter is too small hence it’s not feasible to make fast f1.2 lenses and IBIS effectiveness is limited as the degree the sensor can shift is also limited by the smaller mount. Yet Sony released the FE 50mm f1.2 GM that is smaller, lighter (by 30%) and cheaper than the Z 50mm f1.2 S. The new Sony A7R5 has 8 stops IBIS, which is impossible and fake news if one believes the Nikon Z-ealots.

(2) Sony has terrible color science, Nikon Z-ealots sprouting this falsehood likely either never shoot RAW or have very rudimentary post-processing ability and

(3) Nikon Z lenses are superior because of the large mount. This has been well and truly trashed because the Z lenses mostly tend to be bulkier, heavier and more expensive without really being better!

A recent incident when the mirrorless Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 DN ($1,400) was shown to be matching the performance of Nikon’s Z 14-24mm f2.8 S ($2,500). Nikon Z-ealot influencers expressed extreme consternation and simply resorted to reject the test outright and tried to discredit the test even though none of them have ever used the Sigma. Those who shot Sony or Panasonic already knew how good the Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 DN is as it has been available in E and L mount since 2019. This shows how biased and delusional these Nikon Z-ealot influencers are, they simply chose to think that their brand totem is superior regardless of how good competitive brands are, such biases and delusion really make their overtly enthusiastic opinions of Nikon products utterly suspect.

Nikon mirrorless Z is rather poor value due to their diminishing market share; flic.kr/p/2kUAhdS. It’s little wonder that their Z-ealot influencers are getting increasingly desperate. This fact has been laid bare when Nikon released the rebadged Z 28-75mm f2.8 with a 50% premium based on the Tamron 1st Gen lens and it’s even 33% more expensive than the current Tamron Gen 2 version!

Over a span of 2 years from 2020 and 2021, Nikon lost nearly 40% of their market share (from 18.6% down to 11.3%) in a declining market, no wonder the Nikon influencers are desperate! Bear in mind that Nikon still has a fair bit of DSLR in their portfolio, if we subtract this. their mirrorless market share is even smaller!

Such a small market share also means a much less active secondary market.

As expected, Nikon influencers are frantically passing around their Kool-aid, claiming silly pseudo Finance theory that market share doesn't affect revenue or profit. Problem with a small market share and especially a fast shrinking one is that the important fixed and semi-fixed costs such as R&D can't be spread out to enough units and this is likely why we see releases like the rebadged Nikon Z 28-75mm f2.8 at a +50% extra premium!

I visit this place in late June each year, with the notion of bushwhacking ever so slowly higher and higher to the waters source. These waters spill down from the High Divide area in the Olympics and the melting snow from there, keeps this creek flowing ever so well. Guess I am searching for something, but I am not certain what it is just yet. I think I know, but these matters are best left alone for just now.

The ancient forest stands tall and has a welcoming way about it. All around me, is a natural, calming beauty that beckons one to move ever so slow. My time here always rekindles my spirit. It serves as a reminder of important things that have occurred in the past and for all the definitive moments that may lay ahead for me.

As much as Elon Musk, and the other space venturing billionaires are criticized for their effort to commercialise space, unless we are successful in finding by an absolute miracle a remarkably similar planet, we will all suffer a horrible and inevitable fate. Mathematically it is a certainty that in the future, there will be no reproductive freedom as is currently known in the west. Unless we find another habitable planet, and exterminate more innocent living things, reproductive freedom as we know it will end. Can we not just terra form like the Weyland corporation of the Alien movies? Well terra forming is going to take an age, and we do not have that much time. It is a scenario, that l contemplated while studying the arts at university, ironically not one I was introduced to while studying the sciences. While studying the arts my lecturer, a doctorate holder in the arts, instructed me that the world population had been predicted to be held, or plateau at fourteen billion, a number l found horrific. The same lecturer once asked a class l was in, if we were a feminist or not, and to raise our hands if we were. Although it seemed like a name and shame process for those that did not, l raised my hand because l was, and it should be noted, l still am. Additionally it must be said that this writing that contains some of my dairy musings, is not an attack on feminism but a defence of it. Why would l be seemingly critical of feminism? Because feminism is floundering. Why was this number of fourteen billion so horrific to feminism in my opinion? I thought it was horrific, not just for the sheer distress it will place on the planet, but for the fact that when we as a planet hit a population of fourteen billion, the beauty of having children will not be available for all women, nor all men. Reproductive freedom will end; and with it, sex as we know it too, thus leaving sexual freedom to become a misnomer.

The scenario led me to question both the process and motives for procreation. It led me to explore the politics and motives for state sanctions, state subsidies, and or the construction of the system that takes children away from their parents. In my research and study, l realised, l was not alone, and that much of what l was contemplating was nothing original. Many have contemplated the issues l looked at, and many have considered those issues before me; but l do not think, that it was comprehended that a second stolen generation, had, or would have, occurred. In the supposed emancipation of woman, who would have thought, that in the attempt to achieve it, children would be abducted by the state once again. Mournfully l do not think that it is possible to talk freely about it without ridicule, and the sadness that means for us all. It causes a lot of personal introspection about the motives of the people who perpetrated it, and who would have a vested interest, in a process that lost its way. One that has and manages to cause so much damage. But what has occurred too once again cause the theft of children? What would be the motive for this? Has the scenario of breeding been high jacked with well-meaning state sanctions, and its mutation, promoted with it, the prostitution of motherhood, via well-meaning state subsidies? Was this a repeat of the old colonial system? Despite the necessity for a safety net, the family unit was, and is prostituted with state subsidies here in Australia. And I contemplated heavily about a presumption that it might be said that those involved where both bad men and bad woman. I thought that this thought pattern would be a simplistic one, when the state had caused it, with state overreach. It was, and is promoted with, populist political pork barrelling of the individual…

With those in custody of their children paid more money by the state to not stay with the person they had their children with, what other choice was there? I understand the conundrum of the safety net, and the position everyone is in, but the sanctions, and subsidies, have caused a radical shift, and that shift has occurred in a noticeably brief period of time. It has changed where the centre of the gaussian curves to produce children are positioned. Gaussian curves that took thousands of years to position, with both nature and nurture… This new positioning of the centre of the gaussian curves, has widely occurred in countries where neo feminism is practiced, as opposed to where feminism was being applied. It has become a process promoted with postcolonial western dogma, for some countries in the west, including Australia. Is it part of the decolonisation of west? Is part of postcolonialism to take children away from their fathers, and to dismantle the family unit? One of the reasons why l contemplate why it happened, is that it goes against what the world’s greatest feminist, my grandmother, and what she had taught me by her example. She taught me that you do not expect others to pay for your privilege, you earn it. The Questions are, who has, or will shoulder the cost of this new system? Who is paying for the repositioning of those mathematical bell-shaped curves? And as always, there are rhetorical questions, such as. Is, or was it, a finite system, for both monies, and the custody of the children? Did it become a system where you rob Peter to pay Paul? And in this experiment of monumental size, and consequences, are the social scientists making up numbers like the reserve banks of the world? And do they not consider that unlike the digital world where money has no limit, in the real-world people do.

The academic narrative is that the old patriarchal system used to run men into cannons in the name of nationalism. The men were called cannon fodder. It was said that they, the patriarchy, were leading lambs to the slaughter. A modern term seemed to morph from this, and it was sheeple. But with the destruction of feminism’s admirable objective, that of equality of opportunity, a new group of cannon fodder or sheeple has been produced, and it has occurred via a second stolen generation. In counting people like numbers of a herd, instead of as individuals with inalienable rights, are the sheeple, being treated anything less than statistical cannon fodder? The question is who or what does this new stolen generation serve? Could the feminists have been deliberately misguided to a non-beneficial objective or was it an initiative-taking result of neo feminist dogma. Neo feminism that is in opposition to my grandmother’s example and the feminists of her era, seems to feature heavily in the neo feminist movement. Were the results inevitable once the contributions that males make to their families were disrespected. The result of that disrespect is that it has produced a second stolen generation. And just like the first stolen generation it comes from the undervaluing of a parent’s right to raise their children, and how valuable that contribution is in the future wellbeing of the child or children. The statistics are that in Australia 45% of court proceedings result in sole custody being awarded to the mother. In contrast only 11% of fathers will receive sole custody. Only 3% of court cases result in a Court Order that mandates no contact with one of the child’s parents, 83% of the time the mother ended up with custody.

Like the old government Aboriginal protection board, the new system is weighted in favour of children being taken away from those deemed as unessicary, unessicary for anything other than their labour. In the old protectorate system, children were taken away from Aboriginal mothers who were the predominate raisers of children. And just like the current stolen generation it is was said to have been done for the greater good. To paraphrase the band Midnight Oil’s song and its themes, what a “…Short Memory…” Under the new government child protectorate board, woman are receiving custody, at a rate that makes feminism seem like a pathetic ideal. Feminism was sold as being about equality of the sexes, but this is far from what has been achieved when it comes to who receives child custody of the children. With most children being taken away from their fathers by the court or given up by their fathers due to a financial reality. The reality is that his family, would get more money on single parent benefits while he worked and subsided the family while in isolation. The result of this process involving court rulings and financial stimulus, is that the numbers of this second stolen generation far exceed the first one. The first stolen generation saw approximately 100 000 Australian Aboriginal children taken from their families. And it was horrific. The new system sees 1 in 3 marriages end in divorce, on average, at the 12-year mark. Every year around thirty-nine thousand marriages are broken, a statistic that does not include unmarried couples. (It is a poor statistic, but l tried typing in “…how many children are taken away from their fathers in Australia…” and got back metaphoric crickets chirping. I wanted a definitive number, a number that would drive home the scale of the incident or crime.) Of those marriages that have children they predominantly go to the mother both by court edict, and or end up with the mother, as it is more economically advantages, under the Australian state subsidised system. Yes, the state here in Australia pays a person to separate from their child’s other parent. In Australia, the state pays you to break apart your family.

But where is the word sorry? Who will say sorry to a group of people systemically discriminated against, and reduced to nothing more than a pay-packet? Where is the word sorry for repeating the atrocities of the past? It has been said, like a paraphrase of the old system, and to reiterate, “…it has been found, in a court that you are not represented in, that for the benefit of your child, you will not raise them…” How are men not represented in a court that has predominately male judges? Well, it is not certainly their peer group. How many blue-collar men are actively recruited to work at the court other than as guards, let alone employed to give decisions on where children go? No, the decision making is left to university educated individuals. Individuals with the majority of their self-experience of the struggle of modern-day blue-collar males, being their meetings in the court, where the men are under extreme duress. It is not just the court, it is also a state-run social system, ran by a populist mob, with a populist rhetoric all its own. To herd the sheeple, all you need to know are the trigger words, trigger words which enable you to dog whistle the submissive into position. With most separations happening in lower socio-economic groups, there is a chasm between the have, and the have nots. That chasm extends to where the have nots children end up doing their domestic service, or labouring jobs for the rich, and it is starkly statistically evident. Yes, just like the first stolen generation, the stolen children are prepared for a life of service. A life of service to those considered better than them. On the modern-day mission, constructed of state sanctions, is a subsidised commission house, the state subsidised school, the state subsidized childcare, state subsidized health care, and state subsidized and promoted single parent further education. Under this system of reward, where is the incentive to allow children to grow up in close, and constant contact, with their father? The result is state built expectations for the dreams of the children involved. As a parent, Martin Luther King may have had a dream for his children, but in Australia, if you are blue collar, the state does it for you, not the parents. They will on average, never go onto receive equality of opportunity, when it comes to raising their children. Fathers that are someone’s son, uncle, nephew, grandfather, brother, and father, will never see feminism’s final objective, when it comes to equality of opportunity. Because it currently does not exist and has not existed. At lower wages, and lower salaries, there is no financial incentive for a woman to stay with the father of her children. The only incentive is that her children will be statistically less likely to go to jail, and or have better social outcomes on average if she stays with her male partner. Ironically, this does not seem to be enough. The fact is, the math is simple, and commonly known in the lower socioeconomic groups of both woman and men. The subsidies push for a separation of the family. The accounting is not hard, and it is in gross favour of the destruction of the family unit.

The result of this neo feminist abuse in the name of feminism, has resulted in most men who separate from their partners being denied the human right, of raising their children. For some men it is deprived even on a part time basis. Most will have their children taken away from them by the state, one way, or another. With what is a rebirth of the processes of the old Aboriginal state protectorate board, children are stolen regardless of race from their parents. It is done under the guise that it is for the benefit of both the children and society. It is part of the state propagated and sponsored system, and it is backed by the social sciences. What type of science relies on statistical outliers for the absolute stifling via political debate on the subject? Given the growth of jails, jails first filled with the males of the first stolen generation, that now filled with males of the second stolen generations, when will this process of child abduction be admitted, that it is an unmitigated failure by the social sciences. If it cannot be seen for what it graphically is, what would be the motives for this? If the plan were to have as many men in jail as possible, they have backed the proverbial winner. If the plan were to produce as many single mothers as possible, they could not have tried harder or been much more successful. How can the raising of children be reduced to political catch phrases, catch phrases that site statistical outliers as the average or the norm? It has produced a state sanctioned system, that with huge sweeps of the political and social broad sword, has decimated the functioning of Australian family units. So, who was put to the metaphoric sword for crimes they did not commit, denied basic human rights, that where legitimized with legal judgments? Legal judgments that ended in deaths for many of those subjected to their mandates? And to be utterly factious. Who would have thought that stealing or abducting a person’s child, or children, would drive so many to commit suicide? If death was an all-too-common outcome, did this new process become a process of statistically generated murder, or wilful collateral damage. Was this the cost for an objective that did not and does not serve the greater good of society? Add in a social narrative, where the patriarchy is responsible for all the world’s past evils, and it becomes highly ironic, that the reality is, that many Aboriginal missions were staffed by mostly woman, and that most schools are currently staffed by a majority of woman. Do not let the labelling or othering misdirect you though, all you need to do is just do a few substitutions for the new perpetrators of the new stolen generation, and you will get the picture. And it should be noted, that trying to find out the number of women involved in the first stolen generation is another statistic that the internet seems to have put off the search engine radar. How many women were involved or were instigators in both stolen generations? Well, the internet does not seem to have a number. It is essentially a narrative omission, one that suits a university spread historical take on the evils of colonialism and the patriarchy. I suppose the women involved where just following orders? An excuse that Nazi prison guards of the World War two death camps where not allowed to use. What will be the excuse, when it is widely recognised, that a second stolen generation has occurred? Who will be blamed, and who will say sorry? And when will it be admitted that the children of the second stolen generation suffer just like the first.

The ethical and moral dilemma did not end there, it has turned into a veritable sexual, and reproductive Smorgasbord, with one in five woman having children to more than one father in the west. It is a rhetorical question, as how can they consent when they have no other option? Consent cannot be given when only one option is presented. For some families it is a form of genocide, with no chance of their males having male children.
