Every day brings in new warblers to the backyard.

I was very happy with this one yesterday, and after doing a bird count all day, and not finding this species, it was a nice bonus to have it in my yard when I got home :-)

Tennessee warbler

Migration of ruby-throat hummingbirds through out North America is happening... and while the "little bird" population is trending down, there are still a few birds flying about in the garden...

Fall warblers are really difficult for me to identify. I narrowed this one down to one of three but thought it would be more fun to have flickr friends have a chance to ID it.

I've got a lot of Tundra shots but for some reason I like this one just where they hit the branches of the trees

(as opposed to the ones in the clear sky!)

I'm still seeing several hummingbirds in the area. Soon they will be heading south.

Busy little birdie, it's tail constantly pumps up and down

During my visit to friends Jodie and Paul in Prince Edward County on the weekend, the weather was mostly terrible, on the heels of strong wind and rain storms that had brought down trees and led to significant power losses. So this solitary Duck, bobbing in fairly huge waves, seemed a stoic figure.

This cutie was in the trees across the creek from me. I knew it was one of those confusing migrating empids but not which one. Got the id from a bird expert who reviews for ebird. Glad it was identifiable cause the little imp never let me see its tail and didn't make a peep.

I thought this was another migrating Monarch, but it turned out to be a migrating Queen. Absolutely beautiful in the sunlight.

Some years you don't see many at all but this year they were suddenly everywhere. October seems to be our peak monarch migration month.

Most of the jays were only seen flying over, but a half dozen or so made a racket from the tops of the taller trees.

but this is a great little bird for me. Not a lifer, and deep in a thicket, but I'll take what I got! White-eyed Vireo ... thankful!

There don't seem to be as many monarchs migrating thru lately. Always glad to spot one. These flowers are pollinator magnets.

(Falco peregrinus) -- Peregrine Falcon

Powerful and fast-flying, the Peregrine Falcon hunts medium-sized birds, dropping down on them from high above in a spectacular stoop. They were virtually eradicated from eastern North America by pesticide poisoning in the middle 20th century. After significant recovery efforts, Peregrine Falcons have made an incredible rebound and are now regularly seen in many large cities and coastal areas.
