Hello Everyone!

Perhaps I am a simpleton, but it never ceases to amaze me that small birds can perch on little flowers! This was taken during fall migration and the Nashville Warbler was so intent on finding bugs that it paid no attention to me as I clicked away. A few passersby stopped to ask what I was seeing. It was heartwarming to see their delight as they stood by me and watched the action. This was one of those memorable days that we all hope to have now and again.

Thanks a million for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I do love hearing from you! Have a wonderful day and weekend!

Hello there,

There's lots of juncos coming through right now and fuelling up as they continue their journey south. This one must've been awfully hungry because she didn't seem to notice me although I was quite close. She was gleaning seeds from small weeds at a local park.

Thanks a million for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I do love hearing from you!

Have a terrific day!

Not the greatest of light, but I had to make do with what I had as the birds are usually only seen in the fall and I have never seen two together.

Best viewed large.

Migrating Plover, This one was hiding among the rocks and wood at the shoreline as a Merlin had just made his presence known.

Love these birds! They always visit our backyard early in the spring and then again later on during migration in late summer.

The Cackling Goose and Snow Goose migration is on! This image was taken in the Vancouver Lake Lowlands when we had sunshine. A Red-tailed Hawk flew over the flocks of Cackling Geese and Snow Geese and they took to the air. The sounds and sight of so many Geese is amazing.

Tiny, hyperactive songbird usually found in conifer trees. Look for black stripes on the head and bold wing pattern. The namesake golden crown is usually just a small stripe, but can be flared into an expressive fiery-orange crest when agitated. Breeds in coniferous forests, usually staying high in trees. In migration and winter, often joins mixed flocks of other songbirds in a wider variety of wooded habitats. Very active; often hovers and flicks wings as it forages. Listen for extremely high-pitched call notes.

Surprise! Surprise!

I was photographing something else, and never saw this bird in the background until I looked at the pic on the computer.

It's a highly cropped image of a Snow Bunting (Life Bird Photograph #204).

Seen at White Fish Point, Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

It is always awesome to see one of these pretty pipers every fall. This one was found by Quentin Brown at the Iona Sewage Lagoons. The bird is pretty but the background not so much... but what can you do when a bird is walking through a sewage pond.. LOL

On an aside, the bird has a small bill deformity on the upper mandible.

Having lots of small snacks before the big trip to the south.

Prelude to Fall Migration is underway. This Blackpoll Warbler was sunning in the afternoon hours and did not mind his photos taken :)

Thank you for all the views, faves, and comments.

Thrilled to have my first sighting of a migrating Harris’s Sparrow in a friend’s Calgary yard. This is the only species that is endemic to Canada (breeds only in Canada). Isn’t he handsome?

My friend Mike Tabak and I had a great time photographing an accommodating Stilt Sandpiper in the evening light at Boundary Bay. This was after a great day of shorebirding with Peter Candido, that included 5 Bar-tailed Gowdits among other goodies. We only get Stilt Sandpipers during fall migration and we have had a good number of these juveniles in the Lower Mainland this year. Looking forward to the first Sharp-tailed Sandpiper to arrive.

One lone Hermit Thrush visited my gardens one day last Spring. This fall a single Hermit Thrust visited my gardens. I have no way of knowing if it was the same one, but...

For all my friends that are not birders you may want to skip over my images for this week LOL

The Warblers are fattening up for their fall migration. I found a good site and saw several "firsts."

A little fiddling with the light...zoom away!

Happy Monday!

Boundary Bay is on fire right now with the fall shorebird migration. We have 5 Barwits (record for the province for # seen at once) and 1 Hudwit and many Stilt,Solitary, Least, Baird's, Pectoral and Western Sandpipers. There are also many Red-necked Phalaropes,Long-billed and Short-billed Dowitchers, both Yellowlegs, Black-bellied and Semipalmated Plovers. A Curlew is around, some Marbled Godwits and a Willet spotted nearby as well. I love this time of year. Soon, we will have Sharp-tailed Sandpipers and Golden-Plovers here and hopefully a mega rarity turns up.

It was cool to see the 5 Bar-tailed Godwits all together again last night. I haven't seen them since May. I wonder where they went the past few months?!

This Long-billed Dowitcher was feeding in front of me along side a Stilt Sandpiper a couple Solitary Sandpipers and Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs and some Baird's.

Dowitcher Identifcation can be tricky if you ever need a few helpful tips I wrote some up on my blog here:
