A series of 5 images, all of the same bird. they show the strength and weakness of the D6 when it comes to warbler photography. When you can get close to the bird, the D6 is wonderful (see images I posted railer). From near by, you get beautiful detail and superb low moise at high ISO (all images were shot at ISO6400, 1/2500, f5.6 with spot metering). the strength? full frame, 14ffps and a super sticky autofocus captures an entire sequence of a jumping warbler, every frame a keeper. the weakness? cropping a full frame 21mp Chip leaves lots of detail to the imagination. I would love a DX version of the D6, or a D6 with a low noise 36mp chip...Note the bird must be well fed since it ignores a katydid nymph and a cricket.

My yard, Queen Annes co. MD. mbp Queenstown quad.

Not many "little birds" (ruby-throated hummingbirds) remain in the garden as Fall marches on with shorter days and colder temperatures. Their southern migration has almost emptied the garden of these beauties and photos become more challenging, too.

Every November, early in the morning, I make my way to the sandhill crane gathering grounds, just to admire these elegant birds. Their loud, trumpeting calls give me chills and make my heart skip a beat. That sound can travel up to 2.5 miles away!

Their fall migration gathers thousands of these big birds together to rest and find a bite to eat before continuing their journey south in the morning. Unlike songbirds and waterfowl, sandhill cranes migrate during the daylight and fly 200-500miles (320-800km) in one day (depending on the winds) during these migrations!

Here I photographed two sandhill crane families getting ready to travel together.

Well, not really.

It's been a while since I've textured anything up. So here it is for better or worse. The texture is my own.

I was gathering up winter straw for the dogs and Sandy and Musky were chasing the ducks as they prepared for their migrations. I assure you, no waterfowl were hurt in the making of this photograph.

First of the fall migration which is only a few weeks long here in St.Albert Alberta Canada.

So nice to see Blackburnian Warblers as they pass through during the Fall migration. This one was seen at Plantation Preserve, in Plantation FL.

Thanks for viewing and for any favs or comments!

Photographed 30 October 2018, Platform 1, Khao Dinsor, Chumphon Province, Thailand

One of three feeding of the carcass of a dead animal in the River at sunset - there was a fair bit of fighting, shrieking, and posturing, and this bird posed proudly at the end.

I've been AWOL from Flickr for the last several weeks. Things have been very busy but I've been out shooting fall migrants, mostly warblers, since the end of July! I have lots of neat stuff to share and hope to catch up on Flickr over the next week!

It has been a lot of fun watching and trying to photograph shorebirds, something I only very recently got interested in. I head to the water, when work permits, early in the morning or, as was the case here, for last light at the end of the day. This lingering bird was investigating the deeper water, a feature of the Greater Yellowlegs’ behaviour. Recent rains have decreased available shorebird habitat somewhat.

How cute is that?!?!? A Palm Warbler AND a Common Yellowthroat in the same bush! I love it! Fall migration, WooHoo!

Chincoteague Island NWR, Accomack co. VA

This cute little bird eventually wound up hopping through branches just a couple feet away. Was very happy to get this mostly clear shot from further away.

Fall migration is winding down, and I'll have to wait until next spring to see neotropical migrants again. It was a particularly good year for vireos and warblers. I hope they all have safe passage to their wintering grounds.

Our "snowbirds" have arrived in Wisconsin! I saw the first dark eyed juncos here in the southern Wisconsin early October and they just keep coming!

One of God's little yellow birds being too precious. Palm Warbler in fall migration.

Green-winged Teal (male) in fall reflection.

just beginning to develop the dark feathers that will become his black cap...

Cecil County, MD

A rare visitor to this part of the River, the Pectoral Sandpiper works along in the vegetation and muck on the River’s edge. It was only around for ten minutes, at the end of which the first sun of the morning touched parts of the shoreline. Thanks to Paul Jones for the identification help.

Search, and you shall find

Wodcock Creek Park, Crawford County, PA. We all want to get as close to our subjects as possible. Every so often, the tables are turned and they get TOO close to us! I had to quickly scramble backwards to get this vireo in focus. Just managed to get a few shots before it flew away. Thanks for looking and any comments or feedback.

another Eastern Phoebe. But just too cute not to post and share!

I was worried about this little cutie patootie ... seemed a bit frail and bewildered. But I watched and shot it for a long time, then finally raised my arms and it FLEW AWAY!!!
