While driving along the South Fork of the Snake River the other day I noticed the water level was quite a bit lower than normal. This allowed me to walk out to a bar in the river normally accessible only by boat. This gave a new vantage point for Fall Creek Falls which I usually only view from the side. The water coming over the falls was down as well revealing such interesting rock and moss!
I used a ND8 filter to lengthen the exposure and smooth the water of the Snake River a bit.

A solitary black oak stands tall in directly backlit sunlight on the valley floor on a fall day. As I passed through the valley I had not expected to see fall color in such full swing. I had not previously thought there were as many deciduous trees as they clearly are in Yosemite Valley. And I had thought the oaks would mostly just be going directly to brown. However, there were some beautiful oaks, such as this tall specimen, that showed off a yellow and even orange-ish hue when backlit by the sun. As I passed directly beneath Horsetail Falls I spotted this tree and pulled over. I wandered out into the meadow to try to line up a composition with the tree against the cool shadowed granite backdrop of Cathedral Rocks. At maximum tripod extension I was just able to fit it in without too much sky, and the haze in the air allowed some crepuscular rays to beam off of the rocks high above even. I have ever been a fan of oaks and I ponder what this tree would look like in the snow in the coming winter months.
When you have a good look you van see one falling leaf.
The Wantijpark is a beautiful city park, where you can walk and enjoy the winding paths, natural ponds and beautiful old trees. Children can play in the paddling pool and the playground. There is also an animal meadow and athletics equipment along the edge of the park. It is the only park in Dordrecht with a restaurant, the Wantijpaviljoen. The park was built in 1937 by order of the municipality to provide work and is designed in the English landscape style. In the park are the remains of an old shooting wall from 1910, when the terrain was still a training ground for the Pontonniers. The wall is now a national monument. In front of the park is “De Verdiepen Tuin”, a part of the park in French landscape style. This is also a national monument. Fun fact: bats and kingfishers live in the park. Beavers have also been spotted on the edge of the park. The swimming pool Het Wantijbad and a marina are adjacent to the park.
TSBY GP35 #393 has just arrived in Cadillac with a Lake Central Railtours Fall Color train in October of 2007. My friends and I rode this train up from Owosso, and I even got to ride in the cab of 393 from Owosso to Mt. Pleasant. After a stop for lunch here in Cadillac, the train would run west on the old Ann Arbor to Yuma, where it would reverse direction and head back home, arriving in Owosso around 8 pm. This was one of the last years for Lake Central Railtours, as rising insurance costs finally forced them to shut down.

The Tamarack trees at Highland Forest were perfectly colored and the late afternoon sun was hitting them just right. We've had some beautiful early November days so far for fall hiking.
East of Ely - Minnesota
An autumn "Road Trip" to northeastern Minnesota on Hwy 169. Then it turns into County 18 passed Winton heading towards Fall Lake. The timing was perfect, with the low dark clouds moving off allowing some late afternoon sunlight to peek.
Still sorting and excavating old files to see what kind of treasures are hiding. This can be a wonderful trip late September for color and many adventures!

This is most likely the last of the fall colors, as may trees are bare now, and it is colder, although no hard freezes yet.

This is my FAVORITE time of year! This was just a simple cupcake made for the Sweet Shoppe this weekend. I love how the leaves just look like they are falling right off!

There is just something really special about waking up before the sun, getting dressed in your warm cloths because you are hoping for some fog and frosty conditions when you get to your sunrise location. Once you make it to your spot, you start to see the conditions you were hoping for are really there so you start to get excited..... then the sun starts to peak it head out from behind the mountains and CLICK!!! you captured what you had been waiting all summer to catch. That's kind of what I was hoping for this fall foliage season but the fall foliage here in NY wasn't at all what I had hoped it would have been.
I know I haven't posted here in while, but I'm trying to get back at it!!
have a great weekend!!
The last image in my series of Autumn captures from Loose Park in Kansas City, Missouri. The clouds have been hanging around for what seems like weeks. I've had the last few days off on a mini vacation of sorts (doing some home repairs and a few photo walks). I was trying to capture a little of the Autumn spirit without having the grey skies bring me down so I had to go where the colors are and they all seem to be on the ground.

The hike up to an alpine lake was made easier by the beautiful scenery along the way. The fall leaves were on full display.
