Around 12 inches long. A bright blue top with a lot of white and black in the wings and tail with a dingy white bottom. They have black facial marking and a prominent crest.

The inhabit chiefly oak forests, but now also city parks and suburban yards especially where oak trees predominate.

They range east of the Rocky Mountains from southern Canada to the GUlf of Mexico. In winter they often withdraw from the northern parts of their range.

The Common Gallinule is quite beautiful and under-appreciated. It is anything but common in visual appearance. This one was found along a trail at the #1 attraction in Florida, Circle B Bar Reserve near Lakeland, Florida. They measure about 13 inches (33 cm) from beak-tip to tail-tip.

The Spotted Eagle-owl, also known as the African Eagle Owl, is medium-sized and one of the smallest of the eagle owls. Its length is 45 centimetres and its weight is from 454 to 907 grams. It has a 100 to 140 centimetres wingspan. The facial disk is off-white to pale ochre and the eyes are yellow.

[On the left] Ah Xian's (Beijing, China), China China – Bust 82, 2004. Cast in porcelain with hand-painted underglaze decoration, it highlights the fashion for facial and body tattoos.

[Centre] Unwritten #8 2008 by Vernon Ah Kee, an enigmatic drawing in which the contours of a face emerge.

[On the right] Taking an anthropological photograph from the early 20th century of an aboriginal man, the artist has inscribed it and forces us to confront our troubled past. In this face we recognise a quiet dignity. The colour patches here are not on the original work, but capture something of its present location at MONA.

The double-crested cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) is a member of the cormorant family of seabirds. Its habitat is near rivers and lakes as well as in coastal areas, and is widely distributed across North America, from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska down to Florida and Mexico.

Measuring 70–90 cm (28–35 in) in length. It gains a small double crest of black and white feathers in breeding season. It has a bare patch of orange-yellow facial skin. Five subspecies are recognized.

It mainly eats fish and hunts by swimming and diving. Its feathers, like those of all cormorants, are not waterproof and it must spend time drying them out after spending time in the water.

A very common and widespread species, it winters anywhere that is ice-free along both coasts, as far north as southern Alaska (on the west coast) and southern New England (on the east coast).

It can be found as far south as Mexico and the Bahamas. It migrates from the coldest parts of its breeding range, such as eastern Canada, and has occurred in Europe.

The double-crested cormorant swims low in the water, often with just its neck and head visible, and dives from the surface. It uses its feet for propulsion and is able to dive to a depth of 1.5–7.5 m (4 ft 11 in–24 ft 7 in) for 30–70 seconds.

I have re-edited this image (Fuji X-E2 plus Helios 44m-7). Some time ago, I started with exploring the matter of visually stripping the self. What it means is, step by step and layer by layer, removing (visually) everything that makes a face personal or individual. In this image, I have accelerated the process of fragmentation. Technically, the pixel count has been greatly reduced, and symbolically, this visual fragmentation is a mirror of what happens to my life which is, physically, a process of increasing dissolution. You may ask, what is the point of doing this. The point is to know that there will be an end to my open eyes. But I wish to face the end with eyes open.

These are cake toppers I purchased and then detailed them with a bit of acrylic paint to make them look a bit less like toys.

I used a small make up mirror behind them and a facial mister between my cell phone light and them for this effect.

Objects in the back used for texture: vials of medication used for a Nebulizer.
