I just finished week 1, day 2 of the Couch to 5K Running Plan and I feel great. It was definitely easier than the first workout and when he announced it was my last run interval, I couldn't believe it. I think doing it in the morning and wearing shorts helped, as I did it in the afternoon with the sun beating down on me and wearing pants last time. I walked extra for a total of 2.5 miles in just over 37 minutes. Next time I am going to start with a half mile warm up walk (about 7-10 minutes) so it is easier for me to walk/run a total of 3 miles. At this pace, I should be able to complete next weekend's 5k under 45 minutes (my initial goal). By the time the Disney 5k comes around on 5/3, I should be running 2 miles in the program, so I should only have to walk up to half of that 5k. My goal is to be able to complete the Run for the Trees 5k on 5/24 jogging the whole time with little to no walking, as it coincides with week 9, day 1 where I should be running 3 miles with only a 5 minute warm-up walk. This of course assumes I do not have to repeat any days in the program (I plan to repeat any days in which I can't complete the required jogging times).

If you are interested in trying this out (it's a great way to start even if you do not think you are a runner), here are some excellent resources to get you started that I'm using:

-- C25K Running Plan - This sites describes the program and what to do each of the 9 weeks.

-- C25K Checklist - This site is just the chart of the 9 week program with checkboxes to track your progress. It uses a browser cookie so it remembers what you checked from one visit to the next.

-- C25K Podcasts - One of my biggest worries was how I was going to keep track of when to run, when to jog, and when I had done enough intervals. These podcasts make it super easy and include workout music to keep you motivated.

So who's with me? I know we can all do this!

This was the first room we were supposed to stay in at Robert's Grove. Unfortunately it was also right above the kitchen and we could hear the cooks banging plates around, and the music and people from the bar. The management was very nice about it and moved us down to the "penthouse" of one of the villas on the edge of the property where it was very quiet.

Jo as seen through a diffuser.

I am not really fond of this PhotoBooth effect, but I am really not in the mood for a pic today. So here is what my album cover might look like if I was a rockstar.

I am a little disappointed that I practically lost no weight this week. I felt I was fairly active, but I guess I didn't make the best food choices. I think I got carried away because of last week's huge loss (which I knew wasn't entirely real) and made some bad choices. I ate out 3 times this week, including the character buffet at Disney after the race, backyard burger yesterday, some fried food and a milkshake on Wed (I hadn't eaten anything fried or had a milkshake in about 2 months). Since I've been more active, I've also been more hungry but I guess I did not choose the appropriate additional calories (even though I felt I ate more veggies and fruit than usual this week). The other explanation, which I prefer, is that I am gaining muscle from all the walking/jogging/biking and weight lifting I've been doing. I am sure it is a combination of these. At least I did not have a gain, but it is a little frustrating that I cannot break the 140 lbs mark.

On a more positive note, I can now fit comfortably into a suit I've own for years and have only wore once if at all. I'll have to kick it into high gear next week to make up for this week and get ready for next Sat's 5K.

Today I successfully completed Week 1/Workout 1 of the Couch to 5K Running Plan: 5 minute brisk walk warmup & cool down with 20 minutes in between of interval jogging (60s) and walking (90s). I walked a few more minutes to finish off the lap for a total of 2 miles in 30 minutes. I also walked 2 miles to work this morning (but not home as I wanted to have enough energy to start the C25K).

Stats:

Starting Weight: 152 (1/29/08)

Previous Weigh-in: 140.4

Current Weigh-in: 140.2

Weight Difference: -.2

Total Weight Loss: -11.8

Current Goal: 135 lbs (5.2 lbs to go)

PS - man, I really need a pedicure--hence the blurriness of most of the non-essential parts of the picture.

I bought this suit years ago and I think I only wore the pants once before, if at all. The jacket I've been able to wear but not closed. The pants finally fit and I can close the jacket with room to spare. It has a matching skirt that still has the tag on it that I'll probably wear soon. I also have the pants in beige.

These days I need to try on old clothes often to make sure I don't miss the window between not fitting and being too big. I feel like Goldilocks in search for the bowl of porridge that's just right.

Something has been off about my car lately and we finally took it to get looked on Monday while doing an oil change. They sent us to transmission world, who proceeded to take the transmission apart (pictured on the table behind me--better view of the transmission in pieces) and today I got my estimate. It will cost over $2k to fix, but at least it is guaranteed for life.

This is my day107 outtake, but I chose the other one because getting a new MacBook is more significant (and positive) than a new transmission.

The silver MacBook Pro I currently use belongs to work and I am tired of lugging it back and forth, so I bought my own MacBook today. Its compact and is black! It looks so sleek. Probably not the best time for this since I'll have to pay over $2k to get my car fixed soon, but that's what the emergency fund is for. The ironic thing is, I don't plan to use the car as much now that I can walk/bike to work.

Probably the best piece of food on earth
