My ode to Alex Naanou as he always masterfully plays with the focus and framing in so many locations.

I missed the smily version of this because D70 resumed 'err' hell this weekend.

The Hudson River Ramble and Jay Day were a huge success!!

The Jay Heritage Center (JHC) hosted its annual Fall Family Festival on Sunday, September 23rd celebrating American culture and traditions. Highlights included costumed tours of the Jay Mansion along with activities for all ages.

The event was organized by JHC's Young Preservationists, a group of parents committed to the adaptive reuse of John Jay's landmark home as a community learning center for children and adults, a place furnished with lively ideas and people, not just furniture. The fresh vision of these volunteers had great resonance last year as over 800 people showed up to applaud their efforts while munching on crisp autumn apples and sipping cider. Activities included parents and kids painting pumpkins and coring apples. The Jay estate was once itself a working farm with plentiful crops and gardens. Farmer's market offerings of pumpkin muffins and homemade jams on hand thanks to Meredith's Bread from Kingston while sweet cravings were satisfied by frosty organic Go-Go Pops from Cold Spring Harbor.

The place was filled with butterflies - vivid butterfly painted faces and balloon animals to take home courtesy of James Daniels.

Bruce Macdonald of Ashwood Restoration opened up his preservation workshop and explained the challenges involved in restoring the mansion's front door. Visitors could also see our latest exhibit on NY Genealogy and found out if they were related to some of NY's Founding Families including the Stuyvesants, Van Cortlandts, Jays, and more!

And at the 1907 Carriage House, families participated in an archaeaolgy dig and saw a sustainable dollhouse. But many parents and grandparents were also just content to sit in wicker rockers on the veranda to watch their children play and drink in the unequalled view of New York State's oldest man-managed meadow a vista famously dubbed "a time funnel" to the past.

The event was part of the Hudson River Valley Ramble weekend which celebrates American heritage in New York State.

Week 5 beginning July 23, 2012 and ending July 27, 2012.

The fifth week of camp just ended and we cannot believe we are half way through the summer! This week our campers participated in WGDC's most anticipated event, WATER WORLD! Because of inclement weather we had to push it back a week but the long wait only made for a great experience! WGDC's Middle Camp and Willows put on a great show during our "Puttin on the hits" event. Get some rest this weekend because week 6 is going to be just as great as week 5!

Week 2 beginning July 2, 2012 and ending July 6, 2012 was yet another great week at WGDC.

The second week of camp saw a record breaking heat wave! Campers stayed cool by swimming in the many pools we have on campus! On July 3, the whole camp participated in the "All Camp Cookout" to celebrate the 4th of July. Pluto’s Echo’s performanced at Willow Grove Day Camp on Friday, July 6th! The band, comprised of 14 year olds from Doylestown, played songs ranging from The Beatles to Foster to the People, that had campers and staff members clapping and singing along with the tunes!

Welcome to another great summer at The Willows. This week started hot and humid and ended with beautiful sunny days. The children and counselors had a wonderful time getting to know one another. This week’s theme was “Marvelous Monsters.” In Arts and Crafts the Tadpoles and Minnows had lots of fun choosing legs, eyes, bodies and stickers to assemble and decorate their personalized monster door hangers. Along with this activity, the Willows had fun playing basketball, mini-golf and tennis. The week ended with a wonderful performance by Puppets Pizzazz. The children thoroughly enjoyed all the singing and humor as seen by the smiles on their faces.
