I'm a huge fan of the coupon sites such as LivingSocial and Groupon, but the deal this morning was a touch frightening. All I could think of was the guy from the first Indian Jones movie when his face melted. File that under: "Horrid Childhood Memories".
Here's a great video of that movie moment, but in reverse, making it a true liquid facelift:

My block has seen a new facelift for the year 2010, the light lime green has been replaced with a sombre light purple.
Still that first day with Nick and Meredith - the vast and glorious open space of the turbine hall, that we'd proudly hoped to present to Nick, was partially boxed off and filled by this massive container, being given its finishing touches by men on cranes. It's a work by Miroslaw Balka, called 'How It Is'. Now that it's ready and open to the public, you are invited to walk up the ramp and explore the pitch darkness inside it. The art critic, Adrian Searle, called this an unsettling experience but pronounced that it 'reveals darkness rather than cloaking it in mystery,' which I think will appeal to Nick.

The images above are of the former Presbyterian Church of Wales, which is located at Heathfield Road/Smithdown Place (depending on who you ask). I'd heard rumours that the building was going to undergo some sort of modification so when I wandered past a few weekends ago and noticed that a hole had been knocked in the middle of the building, I assumed that the process of modifying/dividing/modernising the building had begun (the first three images are from that stage).
I drove past on my way home from town yesterday and the whole church is more or less gone (remaining images). After a bit of digging, I found out that the majority of the church is being demolished to make way for a new, much smaller chapel.
Apparently an attempt was made to get the building listed but it failed due to a lack of architectural or historical significance (the building was 84 years old). It seems a tremendous shame to demolish such a beautiful building, even if it did need work to bring it up to modern standards.
EDIT: I think I'm also annoyed with myself as it's a building I've always meant to get round to spending some time taking photos of, as it's on my doorstep and now the opportunity is gone forever. Some sort of lesson to be learnt there.
So I got bored and decided to stickerbomb my headlight shrouds.
(Plate blurred because everyone says I should.)
