The impressive remains of Furness Abbey founded by Stephen, later King of England, includies much of the east end and west tower of the church, the ornately decorated chapter house and the cloister buildings.
Founded almost 900 years ago, Furness Abbey was once the largest and wealthiest monastery in north-west England. A place of prayer, piety and pilgrimage, the abbey was also a major landowner, its abbot occupying an important place in the administration of the region.
English Heritage is carrying out emergency conservation work to stop the ruined Abbey church sinking into the soft ground. This follows earlier routine inspections which revealed serious cracks in the walls. Medieval masons used large pieces of oak in the foundations and after 500 years, this timber is now gradually giving way.
While excavating the grave of a prosperous medieval abbot, a hoard of medieval treasures was discovered at Furness Abbey. This discovery unearthed the first crozier (a staff with a crook on top) to be excavated in Britain in over 50 years and an impressive gemstone ring was also found.

The Great or Lebuinuskerk is a Gothic hall church on the Grote Kerkhof in Deventer. In the Middle Ages it was the main church of the city and one of the most important churches within the diocese of Utrecht. The Lebuinuskerk served as a cathedral during the short-lived existence of the Roman Catholic diocese of Deventer (1559-1591). The church is in the 'Top 100 of the National Monuments Care' from 1990. The church is owned by the Protestant Church, while the tower is owned by the municipality of Deventer.
De Grote of Lebuinuskerk is een gotische hallenkerk aan het Grote Kerkhof in Deventer. In de middeleeuwen was het de hoofdkerk van de stad en een van de voornaamste kerken binnen het bisdom Utrecht. De Lebuinuskerk deed tijdens het kortstondige bestaan van het rooms-katholieke bisdom Deventer (1559-1591) dienst als kathedraal. De kerk staat in de 'Top 100 van de Rijksdienst voor de Monumentenzorg' uit 1990. De kerk is eigendom van de Protestantse Kerk, terwijl de toren bezit is van de gemeente Deventer.

The Psychedelic Furs were a New Wave band in the early 80's, their name was the first that popped into my head when having to do an image that represented a music band.
They were one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their music went through several phases, from an initially austere art rock sound, to later touching on new wave and hard rock.
The band had several hits in their early career, including Heaven and Dumb Waiters. In 1986, filmmaker John Hughes used their song "Pretty in Pink" for his film of the same name.

Australian fur seals blend with their granite home. This island lies off the southern tip of mainland Australia and thousands colonize the rocky outcrops after almost being wiped out by seal hunting 100 years ago.

This is a collection of some of my favourite feathers. There is one Fur in there too.

Ein Bildlen aus Kagoshima auf der südlichen Hauptinsel Kyushu -
anlässlich des heutigen Vollmonds um 6:53 Uhr.
Der für einige Fahrplanperioden in Eigenregie von DB Regio Nordost gefahrene "Berlin-Hamburg-Express" bot immer eine interessante Bespannung.
Denn die eigenen Loks der Baureihe 182 reichten anfangs noch nicht aus, um diese Leistungen mit abzudecken.
Dafür wurden die unterschiedlichsten Lokomotiven bei MRCE angemietet um dem Bedarf nachzukommen.
Für ein Europa ohne Grenzen wirbt die 009, die mit IRE 18092 nach Hamburg Hbf. Tempo auf der Schnellfahrstrecke aufnimmt - 09.04.15
Für viele eine relativ unspektakuläre Vogelart die Rabenkrähe (Corvus corone). Ich möchte sie doch wieder mal zeigen, und hoffentlich doch mal wieder eine Lanze für diesen interessanten Vogel brechen mit herbstlichen kräftigen Farben die das Gefieder noch etwas mehr hervor bringen. Die Farben im Hintergrund sind herbstlich eingefärbte Rotbuchen Blätter.
